Hi Armitage, and welcome to the forum. There are some on this forum whom are greater battery experts than I, but I don't think you'll experience any problems whatsoever. Two things to check - - IF the vehicle has been serviced by a Lexus dealership, it will have received an annual hybrid battery check by their engineers, and will have a certificate to that effect, (and is covered by the 100,000 mile 10 year guarantee If the vehicle was serviced by a non-Lexus dealership, the owner can always have the battery checked by Lexus for a fee (£80?) However, it bears saying that Lexus batteries are extremely reliable.

Agreed, although I've found that a cheap roll of lining paper (aka wallpaper) is a little more durable, less likely to tear, and requires only one sellotaped join.

Hi Barney, I looked for one when we bought our RX a few years back, but never did find a carpet, and bought a rubber liner. Since then I bought one of the thin hard-wearing shop entrance type mats, and cut to shape. (they don't fray and don't require edging.)

Hi Tom, As you'll note, I've not an IS300H, so will hesitate to give you specific advice on your model - though others will certainly appear soon with advice on your model. However, you have proved to yourself that the small 12v battery on the car is not designed for/capable of running lights/radio and accessories for long without the car running. The purpose of this battery is to run the ECU, and the elements such as alarms/locks when the car isn't running. Now, you've effectively completely drained the battery, which will have effectively reduced its capability to recover slightly, (as with most batteries), but providing the unit was in reasonable condition beforehand, I would not worry. It obviously needs a complete recharge, and rather than a 300-mile round trip (which would recharge the battery effectively without stopping at the dealership!) I'd get myself a good battery charger, and recharge it myself. Now, with reference to the offer on services/MOT etc, you'll find that the dealer has most likely quoted you the standard Lexus off, of two years servicing, (1 major, 1 minor), MOT's and breakdown cover, but all at today's prices, (so no account of inflation for the period). Whether or not you avail yourself of the offer is your choice, of course, but I do, (as do many on the forum), as having the Dealership service the car continues the Relax warranty on the vehicle (up 10 years and 100k miles (or is it 150k miles - I'm not sure?), and the service also includes a full check and report on your Hybrid Battery, which I find useful.

I joined 3+ years ago when we bought our RX450, and joined so I could learn how to repair/run etc, the car. The trouble is - - It's not missed a beat yet - so haven't needed to seek help! 😄. Geoff, The "12 month service activated warranty" IS the 'Relax' warranty (which is active providing you have the car serviced annually at a Lexus Dealership (basically) - t's'n'c's apply of course. Any negotiations are a non-proscribed conversation between two parties (buyer & seller in this case) and are wholly without any Lexus manufacturing company legislation. As ever, a negotiated price, with whatever additions/subtractions or conditions, is only the result of a mutual agreement between the two parties.

When I'm just cruising around town, or even on the motorways, without a deadline, I find my speedometer over reads by an estimated 9% at 30mph, based on roadside read-out cameras, and by 7% at 60<>70mph (based on GPS, (iPhone). However, when I'm concentrating to make an appointment, caught in traffic, or underestimated my journey time, the speedometer over-reads by at least 28%.

I think you're fairly close to a fair consumption level. 12.3 km/l = 28.93 mpg, and 28mpg in city driving is not unusual.

If it's a Lexus you're after - I think you could do well to start by looking at this from a club member

There are various aspects of the British legal system that are way out of touch, unfortunately, although I recognise that there is a complicated set of causes and balances in play. We don't appear to have a prison system that works - (other than permanent incarceration for the most serious offenders). Anything less than this, and the prisoners tend not to be reconciled and readjusted for a contributory return to society, but are returned, still disadvantaged, and determined/need/want to re-offend. (And we've not sufficient prison space available irrespective of whether it works, and so a proscribed period of prison is rarely served.) Meanwhile, the fiscal element of a lesser crime, such as driving without insurance, almost always attracts a fine of a lesser value than the likely cost of insurance - so there is little incentive for them to buy insurance in the first place (assuming that they could ever afford it in the first place. Vehicle "crime", in all its forms, would appear to be a highlight of the income gap between the 'haves and the have-nots', where the still quite large element of society continue to struggle to make ends meet financially (for a multitude of reasons), and yet they aspire to own those elements of life that make a difficult life more bearable, (cars/tv's etc etc) and therefore take risks to acquire them illegally. And, I believe that society has become much more lax in its standards since 'I were a lad', and there would appear to be a greater percentage of folks prepared to misbehave than ever before, and with ineffective sentencing/care/treatment, this is likely to deteriorate further. As owners of desirable vehicles, we are perceived to be amongst the "haves" of society, and that will incur distrust and envy amongst some that "don't have", which simply exacerbates the issues. Please don't think that I'm a tree-hugging, soft'n'squeezy, left-leaning luvvy - That I ain't, indeed the intolerance I have of law-breakers made it certain that I could never be a policeman, but as I've aged, I realise the complications that affect our society are compound and difficult. Hmm. Apologies for the rant.

I've had a similar thought - could the wiring not be fed into an armoured cable-cover, that would also make any theft more difficult.

Having seen the L.O.C. offer for Gold Club members of a heavily discounted Scorpion CanBus protection and Thatcham S5 offer - I am tempting myself that it's a deal I should avail myself of. (Our car is often parked in some quiet locations (!)) But before I spend my wife's beer tokens, can I ask, please, does anyone know if the Gen3 RX450's as vulnerable to canbus attack thefts as the sparkly Gen4's?

Andrey, I do not own an RC300, so my comments are general rather than model specific. I've not looked to see if those two batteries are identical, but I suggest that you look up the specifications of both of them to check, and it's not just the capacity of them, but also the exact dimensions, the size and position of the terminals and then make your decision.

Well.... We live in a society where 'improving the standards of living' has been in important (even implicit) requirement for the majority of our population since the 1950's. The rapid development of materials and technology has made this easier - and more expensive. Medical care is exponentially dearer, as are many of our consumables. We're living longer too. So we eat more, travel further, wear more, use more, discard more, and are ill for longer. We'd better get used to having higher taxes! Writing this has caused me to think:-------- Man used to die from Consumption, now we are dying from over-consumption.

Unfortunately, as with all companies/brands, - whatever their declared business ethos and practices, it all boils down to the final delivery by a person - - and if that person is uncooperative, or, let's say 'out of sorts' at the time, then there's a failure in the quality of delivery - - and that's where the rot starts.
