  1. Insurance companies insure risk... (But they don't take any risks!)
  2. I think you'll find that's probably very reasonable, Kissu
  3. After 4 years of year-round driving, Only 6,000 miles each year, cold starts from the bottom of a hill, and 90% town/suburban driving, using mostly E10, fairly light on the pedal, average is 33.7mph
  4. When I bought our 2014 RX450 F-Sport (springs - not air suspension) I expected an harsher ride. It too had Dunlops 19", (only a year old). Replaced the Dunlops with Michelin Cross Climate - - - much better ride. Quieter. more forgiving and definitely more comfortable. Other LOC members also have good things to say about Continental tyres.
  5. Which reminds me of the story I once heard, asked of a Professor of Relationships. This simple test enables anyone to determine the real value of relationships. On subsequent days, lock your partner into the boot for 30 minutes, and the following day lock your dog into the boot for thirty minutes. On which day did you receive the most heartfelt welcome when you re-opened the boot. (Advice to children - please do NOT try this at home)
  6. In truth, Malc, there never (ever) has been any loyalty, and insurance companies simply sell a product. If the customer likes/needs that product, at the price quoted, then it's a sale. Basically, it's back to supply and demand, of course. Now, there are loads of variables (risk factors), which include driver gender, age, location, accident record, driving record, police record, occupation, required mileage, and a few I won't know about. But there's one that's rarely talked about - and that's the insurer's own 'spread of policies' budgets. Most insurers will have a portfolio of 'types of risk' - and may well aim for a balance of age/gender/location (etc) policies. Once they've filled their chosen number of a given type, they'll often load an higher premium ... (Just like a builder that quotes for a job, but doesn't really want it - he'll quote a higher price - (and be happy to do it with extra profit). And, of course, since the introduction of online policies, including a fair old number of cowboy players, it's muddied the water even more.
  7. It's an interesting development, and about time the UK started to reduce it's dependence on other countries. This will surely bring some wealth into the country of Cornwall - although I have no doubt at all that the latest ranks of property owners will complain that mining will be spoiling the tourist industry, and making their roads dusty!
  8. It's a glorious beastie!
  9. My advice would be to take to a car audio specialist (NOT a Lexus dealership or local general garage), it may well cost a few quid, but could save you many, many hours scrabbling around chasing shadows.
  10. IT is always reliable Until it's sideswiped by the Silent Hiatus Which is when the acronym changes.
  11. Our lovely motor will be used as our daughter's 'wedding car' in a couple of weeks. Having experienced a national franchise '4hr full external/internal wash, wax, hoover, headlining (etc) clean, I am convinced that a self-dedicated all-day wash/polish/buff and groan will certainly achieve a better result for the Grand Day. But it will be an emotional dedication, for approaching my mid-70's, I'm aware that the after-effects will test my (immediately) previous resolve. But we do, do, for our children, don't we (?)
  12. It's always more positive (a sales technique) to reduce from £12k to £9k, than increase from £9k to £12k
  13. It's a reasonable second car for a young aspiring drug dealer
  14. I would assume the clearcoat lacquer not only protects the substrate, but also provides the optical 'depth' to create the faux spun metal appearance.
  15. Aaaaah! I didn't know that! Thanks (every day's a learning day ) (But then, I'd not EVER buy a car on F***book)
  16. Obviously a Lexus Research and Development vehicle, - with the 1Ltr engine producing 123bhp But maybe not as economical as Hyundai i10?
  17. The Issa Brothers (whom purchased Asda from Walmart (with help from a Capital provision business), previously ran (were Co-Directors for the EG Group (https://www.eg.group/retail-segments/fuel/) and a few food supply and retail areas too! ( https://www.eg.group/) Wherever you've bought your petrol, Malc, you've probably helped pay for Issa brothers mortgages! 😉

  19. I always check on the prices of fuel before I need to fill up, and use petrolprices.com It's free, has a reasonable mobile app, and definitely helps me decide who's getting my business that week! The differences between station prices in any given week can be enormous.
  20. Not today, but this week, took the car to 'The Wheel Specialist' in Leeds for a full clean and recoat. They seemed pleasantly surprised that not one wheel had ever been 'kerbed' (I wouldn't do that to my motor!!!!), but at nine years old, the inboard sides of the rims were losing their paint, and the outers were dulled (I suspect previous owners may have had the cheap'n'cheerful handwash brigade use their acid spray guns on them. However, the end result was excellent, great finish, there appear to be no flaws in the coating, and, what's more, received the 15% LOC discount ! Good 'workmanlike' business to deal with too.
  21. You are correct, Ian. Good, innit! 😊
  22. (Shhhh I'd keep that quiet - and not brag about it...... ) 😉
  23. Doh! And I thought you were about to buy a round for all of us then, Keith!
  24. And, of course, apart from mediocre management in some of (any type) of chain structured business, one is oft presented with the problem of "pay peanuts, and attract monkeys". Sometimes the staff will be pleasant, efficient and ace at their work, and other times they're disenchanted, overworked and not good at their job, and that's where poor management really comes into play - and does nothing!
