  1. When we will be away, (hopefully) on a boat and without the car, for sometimes three or four weeks at a time - I realise I'd need a charging system to look after the battery I've read this thread, and have just bought myself one of these: https://www.ukb4c.co.uk/products/aa-essentials-12v-solar-powered-car-battery-charger-solar-panel-obd-version?_pos=1&_sid=22302d684&_ss=r (I'm sure other brands are available! - ) (And I have not received any benefits in either cash, kind or favours for posting this link!)
  2. Ah Peter! Condolences - - but, like you, am ever the optimist, it will be worth waiting for, it won't disappoint, (and it won't have caught the trendy virus that's going round at the moment!)
  3. Not sure if the following is an authoratative or accurate summary, but it suggests the current situation with regard to MOT's is 'no change', (and published today) https://www.worthingherald.co.uk/lifestyle/cars/mot-cancellations-everything-we-know-so-far-about-how-testing-affected-coronavirus-2505399 And on 'honestjohn's' site: 19 MARCH 2020 The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has told HonestJohn.co.uk that it’s currently “business as normal” for the MoT test, but the situation "has the potential to change if the coronavirus pandemic worsens." This means, for now, all car owners will need to ensure their vehicle has a valid MoT if it's over three-years-old. As before, as in all cases, the MoT lasts for 12 months and the expiry date is found printed on the pass certificate. You can get an MoT up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out and keep the same renewal date. For example, if your MoT expires on 20 May, you will be able to have the MoT carried out on 19 April and keep the same renewal date. If the MoT is carried out earlier then the one month (minus a day) the renewal date will be changed. If the MoT expires then the vehicle must be removed from the public road and declared SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification). Owners should also inform their insurer of the SORN notification and the location where the vehicle will be stored. Vehicles on SORN can only be driven to a pre-booked MoT appointment and must have valid insurance. Approved dealers will continue to offer servicing and maintenance for their customers and booked appointments are still being honoured. Halfords and Kwik Fit are also operating as normal. Speaking to HonestJohn.co.uk, a spokesperson for Halfords said: "The health and safety of all our customers is a top priority and we’re closely following all government and Public Health England guidelines. "All of our stores and garages remain open, and we are working hard to ensure our motoring services, MoTs and mobile servicing teams continue to keep our customers moving. "In the event of any closures we have put contingencies in place to contact any customers who are affected and, if convenient, will rebook them into an alternative centre for the work to be done.” A Kwik Fit spokesman said: “Currently all our centres are open and operating as normal, as is our mobile fleet. Our number one priority remains the safety and wellbeing of our people and customers, providing a safe and clean environment for everyone. “We are staying well informed of the developing situation and following the advice and recommendations from the Government, Public Health England and the World Health Organisation. We have introduced additional hygiene measures both in our centres and for our mobile fitting fleet, and we are practising social distancing to reduce any close contact between staff and customers.
  4. You may find that a simple greenhouse is a more efficient (and somewhat cheaper) alternative for keeping plants in. Unless they are of a "more extravagant" variety - in which case I quietly suggest that somewhere without windows, but with heating, lighting and a really efficient air-change system could be even better.
  5. The worrying thing is that these scams must dupe some people, otherwise they wouldn't keep pumping the blasted things out at us all! Mind you, I had a personal letter from Donald John Trump the other day excitedly informing me that he was sending me $20,500,000 from his scam fund, (via a Turkish bank no less!) I haven't heard back from him
  6. Hmm, I'd start by checking the 'dryness' of the cabin floor linings, these are more than capable of soaking up a slight leak. If you have (or can borrow) a set of simple damp probes (as used by builders and DIYers) they could also assist in determining damp areas.
  7. I've used both the RAC (with previous cars) and have to say that they were both excellent - but RAC edged it - extremely thorough and nothing was too much trouble. Ive never paid the full price though - and always used a rebate house like Quidco or Topcashback - - (Quidco currently rebating about 47% of the RAC membership costs)
  8. In my 2014 450RX F - over 3000 miles in the last six months of mostly town driving I've achieved (a fairly careful) 30.2 mpg, My only excuse is that they are nearly all journeys <5 miles, and I live at he bottom of a hill! - so every journey starts with an 'Up'!
  9. Clearly Lexus Woodford are staffed by expertert sales people determined to win your custom, having previously quoted you "my local main dealer has just quoted me £384! " The next thing they'll do is "Make you an offer you can't refuse" (which may or may not involve an horses head on your pillow!
  10. Good to know that your car is going swimmingly 👍
  11. I used the Meguiars pack on my previous car (Merc S500) and the job was easy and effective
  12. Ah! 23. Could one not purloin an appropriately sized piece of ripstop fabric, cut and seam to shape, and then simply cover in £20 notes with adhesive such as Copydex? It would likely be more cost effective than using Official LexusMart merchandise......
