  1. David, I've not exactly the same problem, and it doesn't occur as reliably as yours, but there are some similarities.. I s'pose the best place to start is with a question . . . Do you give your car garlic bread? The reason for asking is, I hope, fairly obvious. For a fair portion of garlic bread will cause (what I like to refer to as ) anal burps. At least, that is most certainly my experience with my nearest and dearest (my wife, Josi - not the car- Lancelot!) For after a decent Mediterranean meal, with plenty of garlic bread, she gets in the car and, well - - you get the picture Hope this may have some relevance with your quest for clues
  2. As you'll note from a comment I made earlier - the OBD2 port is an excellent point to plug in a solar trickle charger. Just be aware, of course, that if your battery is totally flat then it will take some considerable time* (as in days) of reasonable sunshine for a battery to be charged purely from a small solar trickle charger. * (Battery science is wonderfully complicated, and I have grossly simplified it with the above statement) (as an aside: - - - My battery was similarly flat a couple of months ago (before I got a solar panel) but I was able to use my NOCO Boost HD GB70 (jump start pack) to start the car, and give it a decent run before I relied on the solar trickle charger, but it has been as 'good as gold' since.
  3. Herbie - hope the health problem repairs promptly - - although we didn't have to incur such delays when we could simply send 7 year-olds scampering up chimneys, or hauling coal from deep mines. And people tell us 'life is better' eh?!
  4. What an excellent article (project). THank you Herbie - - - If ever I find a spare moment I shall embark on something rather similar!
  5. Absolutely right 'Comedian'. Every summer we see news of animals (mostly dogs) being left in cars and either dying or suffering extreme heat exhaustion. I cannot believe that anyone would ever consider doing such a thing, and if I ever witnessed it, would summon the local constabulary.
  6. (Note - not 'PC') Does that make them similar to Rolling Stones chicks?
  7. Look, we don't know if it's the location causing an untypical echo reverberation that's causing the alarm problem - - -- Les - - The car port - - is it in the front garden, next to your hour house - or near your back passage?
  8. It's when Mercury and Venus get close to Uranus that things get a bit twitchy!
  9. It's good to learn that your wife's return journey from LHR to LANCS was also upgraded, to First Class. Neither of you will ever wish to travel Cattle Class again!
  10. You're referring to the OBD(2) socket - and yes - I have connected my solar panel to that socket to trickle charge the 12v battery
  11. Herbie - - - I am sorry - - - I cannot help with any reasonable information on this - - - But will this help?
  12. Thank you Barry - - - My name remains on your list
  13. Ah! The Woolacombe Beach-world Speed record attempt 2019
  14. Mornin' Paul, - and welcome back to the fold! I found myself in a similar situation to you last August - when I bought a 2014 version of your motor, - and I DID buy the extended warranty from Lexus. I'd arrived at that decision having read many pages on the subject on this very forum, where I'd arrived at the conclusion that the majority of opinion was that the warranty was a worthwhile purchase. It is, of course, only a form of insurance policy, and we can always debate whether any form of insurance is a 'value for money' purchase - (it IS you one needs it, and ISN'T if one doesn't of course). However, I also purchased a two year Lexus Service package - I liked the peace of mind that gave me - ( my days of scrabbling around under cars doing my own servicing are well over ) - and with a well made vehicle - I want quality maintenance (ships and ha'porth of tar etc) I would also suggest that with your annual mileage being at least double the average, then there is a greater arguement for an extended warranty. And just to justify my own decision - I promised myself to buy just one bottle of reasonable wine LESS per week (£10 bottle) - that way both the car and I would stay healthier!
  15. Great work Barry - - I appreciate the update on all your research, and I would like to add my name to your list for Battery Megastore (as well as continue to follow your exploits through the slough of batteries!)
  16. As both Roger and Barry have already mentioned - assuming you're getting a spark at the plugs - then fresh petrol would be the very next thing I'd consider
  17. I bought one rather similar to the post that Herbie mentioned! It works well
  18. I wonder if our cat was a Lexus? Although she's passed away now, whenever I went near her with a bowl of food she used to start purring too, and if I took the bowl away she'd stop straight away!
  19. You're right, Richard, I recently had a delivery, (to Yorkshire) from their (main?) stores, (near Heathrow ?) using DPD, great service, but it was only a £13 order!!!!
  20. Ah! Thanks Herbie - - - I shall be brave - not let it spoil my self-isolation - and continue to pay weekly attention to tyre pressures as I have done since 1967. Hey ho!
  21. Am not sure whether TPMS was 'an option', but my 2014 RX450 F-sport is not fitted with it
  22. Just as Gliderpilot (post #2) is doing - I've now placed a solar panel on my dashboard, and have it plugged in (to the OBD2 port (beneath the steering wheel)) when parked up for long periods. My battery went flat in just 10 days prior to doing this!
  23. Ash - the battery the OP, Dave, is speaking of, is the 12v battery that runs the alarms/door locks etc - not the propulsion/hybrid battery, which is why a trickle charger, either wired or solar, should resolve the issue
  24. Hmm - - thanks John. Have to admit that I'm not an electrical engineer, and made the assumption that being an AA branded panel designed to trickle charge car batteries that it should have stood a fighting chance to achieve that function. I have conected my panel this morning - and will now keep an eye on it - - thanks for your heads-up on this issue John
  25. I'm in a similar position to you, Mark. In fact - I went out to the car today and it wouldn't start (flat battery) A couple of years ago I bought a NOCO Boost HD GB70 (ostensibly for my Merc S500), the NOCO has held its charge for 2 years, (will effortlessly cope with starting an 8 ltr petrol engine) and started the RX450 without a hiccup this morning . And a well made unit too I bought it at Amazon - although other retailers are available of course https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=NOCO+Boost+HD+GB70&i=automotive&ref=nb_sb_noss
