  1. I had the Lexus Catloc fitted to our RX450 this week at Lexus Leeds. Cracking job, absolutely no alien noises or vibrations since fitting, and after the production of my Lexus Owners Club membership card, the cost was £350 (inc VAT). (And I've had two neighbours lose their 'cats' in the last two weeks!) I know that nothing can guarantee security these days, but at least I've done all I can* (* although still not wired it up to the traction batteries! 🔌)
  2. Welcome Phil, I did something similar 18 months ago (or 3,000 pandemic miles!) when we bought our RX450. Wonderful motor - but, what's even better is the camaraderie, knowledge and helpful advice you'll find on this forum.
  3. Thank you M4rk, I've made a note of your kind offer
  4. I strongly suspect this is excellent advice!!! (Thank you John) 👍
  5. It's a ruddy shame when one of our trusted dealerships 'extracts the urine' when working for us. If the dealer ever experiences being 'taken advantage of' by a supplier, or service provider (even the local restaurant!) - then they kick up a fuss - - - what would they expect us to do?
  6. I'm having one fitted to my RX450 next week by Lexus Leeds - - I'll mention your experience to them - (and attempt 'to stay one jump ahead'!) Thanks for your feedback Ben
  7. Or possibly a fraying cable is catching inside the outer sheath - - are they routed round a 90degree (or more) bend maybe?
  8. Prior to my F Sport we had a Merc S500, bells & whistles, air suspension and more oomph that Bridgitte Bardot when she was 25. Our F Sport certainly has firmer handling than air suspension, as Rayaan said - noticable at slower speeds, but I have to say I prefer it by far, and the passengers don't get 'seasick' either!
  9. As I've not lost my cat yet, I wasn't aware of whet the change in exhaust note would be, so thank you for that advice. However, regarding your suggestion of decorating your Zeller unit - I would still suggest that 'Angle-grinder Archie', having previously nicked any number of cats from different motors, won't be in the slightest bit concerned what profile it has, or even if you mark it as I don't think will make any difference, for having gone to the trouble of slithering under your motor (hopefully unseen), and knowing that it'll only take him 100 +/- seconds to remove, he might as well whip it off and see what he's collected when he throws it the back of his van! I realise I may appear somewhat pessimistic here, but until scrap dealers clean up their act (🤣), or we find a way of connecting a cable from our traction batteries to the cat, then I think the only way of dissuading the scrotes is to make the act of removal as time-consuming as possible.
  10. Joe, I strongly suspect that a tea-leaf, intent upon collecting cats* , having scampered underneath your motor with cordless angle-grinder in hand, is going to stop, check on the manufactuer or profile of your cat* before he removes the offending item! So whether you've an OEM, or aftermarket unit ain't going to make a difference to him (or her!). You could do as others have done, and simply have a straight pipe fabricated to replace the cat*, so there's nowt to steal! * all references to cat/cats are to exhaust gas converters, and not to any form of domestic. or wild, felines
  11. Aye - they had three branches, Bolton, Stockport and Bradford, With Leeds Lexus fairly close, maybe it simply wasn't sustainable in these difficult times
  12. Oh I love it when I tentatively engage but one toe into the fringes of technology - - - We believe the phrase "Once burnt - twice shy" - but I am proof positive (should it ever be needed) of the bare-faced error of that message. . I will now sit down, and with laptop akimbo - spend an unqualified number of hours teaching myself to understand your advice. Sincerely - thank you. If you don't see evidence of my continued existence for an unconscionable period of time - please do not fret, nor call in the Fourth Emergency Service - for I am fine - - but merely engaged in an hybrid study combining Enigma coding and Zen. Liberally lubricated with Laphroaig. Sincerly - - - Thanks!
  13. Herbs, Nick, . Aaah! I knew the moment I posted that I'd 'cocked-up' the terminology - - but as I was into my third Laphroaig (1/4 Cask) of the evening - I took the lazy way - and didn't re-write. I appreciate your advice, and whichever 'bits-o-wire' I buy, I'll be buying blocks of hours from Lexus. Thank you
  14. What-ho chaps! I'm after some advice please. I've decided to buy a Techstream - - I don't need one yet, - as there are no emergencies or imminent need - but I prefer to 'be prepared' should I ever find myself in a dire situation. But, as ever - there appears to be the expectedly wide selection available, ranging from the 'Buy 2 get one free' on offer at Poundland, to the OEM handwrapped in Dodo skin from Harvey Nichols (in the Emirates Mall in Dubai). A racing certainty that I will not be ordering either of those two examples (nor the full monty dealership edition!) - but I'd appreciate advice on the kits that other members have bought. I'll be using it with a Windows 10 laptop (if that makes any difference to the hardware?) Thank you..... Dave
  15. I bet that's why it's (so often) raining over the M62! 😉
  16. Aye - cheap shoes always wear our quicker
  17. I achieve similar figures to Steve, although we live at the bottom of a hill, so all our short journeys, (mostly v v short for the last 13 months!) will always adversely affect the figures - so I'm quite happy to be achieving 31.3mpg ave
  18. An even easier solution - - - just fit a bigger battery!
  19. I wonder if the service engineer (!) didn't tighten something??????
  20. Don't worry - in just a few years time, you won't be able to remember what happened yesterday - but three years ago will be as clear as crystal
  21. I'll second that, three to four weeks before due date has frequenty appeared to be a "sweet spot" for quotes. It could show that one is organised, and also less desparate for quotes. Create your spreadsheet, then look at Compare the Market (etc) and get your quotes in, and also get quotes from the various insurers for different levels of voluntary excess levels too - and you'll start to appreciate their premium structure. It'll take a few hours - but it is your money your spending!
  22. Hang on in there Lann - - - be patient, research the insurance - it will be possible! !
  23. I strongly suspect it's your battery Steve. I had similar problems earlier last year - (wasn't using the car much in lockdown) - I persevered for a while, using a solar top-up panel, but when I replaced the batter - "et voila!" - - all was well, and the tailgate opened as she should! And no problems since
