TBH Vlad, a cellar of 250-300 bottles is no big deal in my neck of the woods, which is a wine-growing area.  In fact, many houses have proper below-ground cellaring facilities for thousands of bottles.  In my own case I am limited to three alcoves of single-bottle depth, each sufficient for approx. 100 bottles, built into the stonework and dating from c. 1500-1550.  I attach a photo of one of them, and I think you’ll agree it would be a shame to leave it empty.  Yes, sooner or later, all the bottles I lay up will have been consumed at an average minimum rate of one a day.  The bottles are usually almost immediately replaced, not out of any urgency on my part but because looking at full shelves gives me a feeling of contentment and, perhaps, of some sort of security.

    Brilliant! Rabbers.

I think it's wonderful to witness someone whom enjoys their food, and knows how to broaden their experiences too.

I 'doff me titfer' to you, Rabbers.

  2. I afraid, that I'm happy to say  a couple of belting Islay Malts serve my palate well.

Laphroaig Quarter Cask, or Lagavulin 16 year old. Either 10% room temperature water, or neat.

And a favourite wines are a ten year old Barolo, or, maybe Montrachet or a decent Chablis.

The real issue is that I have a champagne taste, and a beer pocket!

But what little I have, I enjoy.

  3. Hi Jag,

I had a Catloc fitted (by our Lexus dealership), (for there had been a few cat.s disappear in our locale too), and so far, so good.

However, you're right that there is not a guaranteed method of protecting one's cat, although I believe the two important cat.s on your car are beneath the bonnet, and the unit underneath the car is less critical - (that's the unit protected by the Catloc)

Re 1) I guess I'm curious enough to try a tank 🙂 I see the "Best" in the "Past record" screen is 36.7mpg, I've been through a couple of tanks of very mixed driving, 31mpg currently. I'd expect that to climb when temperatures improve tho.

My experience is that whilst I only get about a 5% improvement in mpg using premium fuel, (or, now, E10 with a fuel additive), I feel more comfortable hoping that the claimed additive ingredients counter some of the possible adverse effects of E10. And I've convinced myself that the engine is smoother, - (it isn't of course, but I'd like to think so!)

Most importantly,  - my mpg has improved over the few years I've had the RX, not because of magic, but I've learned how to drive it more efficiently in different road/traffic conditions. It helps that I'm never in a scalding rush to get anywhere!

  5. I will normally achieve between 25<>30,000 miles on a set of tyres.   (both for the Lexus and the previous MB S500)

Always use decent tyres (current M.. X Climates), previously Continental on the MB)

I check my tyre pressures every 3<>4 weeks, (and drive gently), but read a report a few months ago (and cannot remember the source), that over 50% of drivers drive on under-inflated tyres)

Awesome, thanks so much.  That’s going to save me a pretty penny since I am eyeing up a full set of all-weather tyres after watching Corpjones’ video in the other thread.  Also, re off topic thread, sorry to make work for you, I shan’t do it again!

As others have said, I would still invest in having your car wheel alignment (all 4 wheels) check - but search locally for a reputable specialist to do it, Kwik Fit may well be the first in the classroom to put their hand up with "Please Sir, we can do it Sir", but one would be better served by a specialist that takes real care with your set-up.

I bought a set of Lexus blades (front and rear) for our RX450 for £36.50 from Lexus Direct

(though there is an additional postage cost) . but in the grand scheme of things, I'd rather have wiper blades I know I can rely on (I prefer to see where I'm going! 😉   )

I think that the window runners need a little lube as it sounds like the window is sticking near the top & this can produce the issue you have.

A little Silicon spray into the runners each side & the top.

Even better, try PTFE powder (Amazon) an extremely fine powder, (basically Teflon), it won't attract dirt as a silicone liquid spray.   (also great for all plastic<>plastic rubbing surfaces, internal car trim squeaks) and clothes zips, curtain tracks etc

I did loads of research before buying my NOCO and came to the conclusion that ANY brand of jump start pack 1000 amps or less may not be good enough for a V8 engine as in the SC430.

I finally choose the 1250 amp NOCO GBX45 which is a little more costly BUT REALY DOES THE JOB! (

I'm 100% satisfied with it and would recommend it to anyone.

I bought a NOCO Boost HS GB70 2000A  (initially for our (now deceased) MBenz S500), but it's a superb piece of kit, and is often borrowed by neighbours, (and is useful for our boat, too)

    Just SO useful

  10. I used to like telephoning home from the call box near work..

Pick up the receiver, systematically select the numbers on the circular dial, and listen to the staccatto chatter of the pulses as it wound back - ready for the next number.

And when my parent answered their 'phone, pressing button 'A' to release the two pennies, hear them tumble into the cash box - and then start my conversation

Mobiles today just aren't the same 😉
