Hi Delp , I removed the hub in question and removed the dust shield . Took all the corrosion in the hub away with a dremel and flap wheel , covering the wheel bearing first with masking tape. Then applied nickleslip to the surfaces and fitted a new dustcover . The reluctor ring is tapped off the shaft with a drift and the new one heated and placed on the shaft . I would NOT recommend leaving out the dust cover as it forms a labrinth seal with the corresponding flange on the shaft , thus minimilising water ingress

I have a SC430 that suffered from these symptoms. It was the reluctor rings on the rear drive shafts . You can get various symptoms but its a common problem on older cars . The hubs corrode and press the bearing dust seal out and impinge on the reluctor wheel teeth . They wear of and cause various symptoms . easy to check . remove 10mm bolt on sensor and remove . Look at sensor . If it is covered in filings , that is the problem . Ring can be seen in hole with a torch .Its a job for a competent mechanic . Some do a bodge job on them .

Must Have :-Matador Red + Cream Leather interior( Rutland Ivory) I already own a facelift SC430 and I am looking for a Project Car to spend some time restoring to as new condition . but keep as OEM standard. I will change the :- 1) Exhuast as necessary. 2) Reluctor Rings to address any ABS ,breaking problems. 3) Components as necessary to restore to new condition . 4) Headlights as necessary 5) OEM Wheels refurbish as necessary. 6) Timing belt /idlers/ waterpump/ transmission fluid as necessary Bodywork should be in good condition as a respray would be prohibitive .

LS430 For Sale

Hi Roger , I would have thought that it is much more eco friendly to keep driving your LS @30mpg than the horrendous cost to the planet of another Tesla with all the downsides of manufacturing one of these . But I suppose if its the tax advantage , then I see your point . Anyway I wish you well in whatever you do . -

Bang on Neil , I was just reinforcing what you had concluded . Techstream woud only point to the sensor ..................... but not to the actual cause of the sensor malfunction !
-
I will give my 2 pence worth . . It has to be the reluctor rings ................. I have just replaced one on my 2006 SC and had to redo the other side cause the so called mechanic had changed the ring but not the bearing shield in which the reluctor ring revolves. You say you know its not the rings ............................. how do you know or are you just going by what youv been told ?

thanks Colin:,I loved the 2006 Sat Nav / DVD player in the 2006 IS Multi Media version . Its a pity they did'nt put the whole package in the uplift SC .
-
Thanks Neil , Its strange they facelifted to the same sat nav as the new IS (2005) and not incorporate the DVD as in the IS . , but then Toyota /Lexus policy was always a mystery to me . They even didnt have the full postcode in 2006 !!!!!!!
-
Thanks John 'I should have searched but there you go . My 2006 IS250 MM Auto had a DVD in the radio unit instead of a CD player just for music . You could play DVDs at a stop as standard . Also they dumbed down the phone touch screen whist driving as a safety/ nanny precaution . This of course could be dis enabled . Did the Sc with the updated generation nav system have a dvd in the radio unit ?

Is there anybody who has a definitive list of differences by year after 2005.I know of the facelift , lights ,6 speedbox, different gen sat nav . ...........any more ?Was there ever a Adaptive Cruise Control / Radar collision avoidance .

Sc Owners Transmission WS Fluid Change on Facelift
nicnac replied to nicnac's topic in Lexus SC430 Club
That sounds right John.about 40-50k for us as well would do no harm .I saw the crud that came out of the filter in one of the LS transmissions and the magnets in the pan . I suppose im just too fussy . We used to say you cant change that bit at 40000 feet if it fails , but a car can pull to the side. -
Sc Owners Transmission WS Fluid Change on Facelift
nicnac replied to nicnac's topic in Lexus SC430 Club
Yes Colin . The word at the start of the six speed A761E transmission was that it was a lifetime fluid /fill. that always baffled me as an engineer . The thought of the torque converter mashing the oil for year upon year in thermal conditions told the RAF trained techy that it would need changing for continued performance .I will certainly be changing mine when I get the car. Also the drain does need to be done 3-4 times as you suggest with driving in between to cycle the torque converter oil to the sump . On the IS 250 I did it 4 times till the oil was cherry red again with a good cycle between .Just found these WS fluid tins from that episode .... i knew i didn't throw them out .!!It is also imperative that the stack pipe level check is done at the correct temperature. Failure to do this at the last cycle will cause knotchy changes. -
i am about to purchase a face lift SC-2006. Just wondering how many owners have had their transmission fluid changed whilst owning . Its nearly identical transmission to the IS250 unit . I had an issue with Lexus here when they did not do the level check properly . this was back in 2009 . I ended up doing it myself . i had 33k on the clock at the time and the fluid was already a murky brown .

Ill stop looking for you then !!!!!😂

Its easy ................ Because its THIS car .......... ask him what he needs to get for it . !!! if you want to pay that price , tell him and put a deposit on it immediately before he changes his mind or gets a better offer . Job done ! you will never find a car that you know more about its pedigree . I don't think Lexusman will rub it in as Bob is still about .
-
Yes I agree. Its ideal for someone who wants purely to own and drive it . ie 😇you !!! I on the other hand like to put my own mark on a car and do my own anti-deterioration and work . That's what gives me the buzz. I then look at the car and admire my efforts . Its a man thing . That's why I would not go for an already perfect car like Bobs. Strange isnt it ?Just hope you get it .
-
So have you sealed the deal ?
-
I route lined that back around 1970............... stand by my bed ......and that was RAF as well!!!!😁
-
Saw the video on the other board. It is a stunning motor . I hope whoever buys it appreciates the care and attention Bob put into it .IfI was a millionaire I would buy it back for Bob to continue with it. But alas that is not the case . I think if Lucy is the new owner she will do it proud . We all deserve a shot of her going down Pall Mall in it !😈
