i imagine the tyres have feathered on the edge due to tracking and have been stopped to the back .if it's a dealer car ask for the tracking to be checked and ask for the print out . When you test drive make sure the car doesn't pull slightly left or right on a flat road because of roads camber to the kerb drive in the centre of the road to be sures. Good quality tracking with set you back about 100-150 pounds .dont use kwik fit it takes time to set a car up properly .

Most cars are reliable and don't have any real issues most problems are caused by the driver and lack of correct maintenance .every car I bought years ago I would have gone right through it after buying and given it a full service and replaced anything that needed doing .the only reason people buy newer cars these days is because they are so electronic heavy and cost a fortune to repair .ideally you would have bought an older toyota diesel that would see you good for 200k miles with routine servicing etc .but the enviroment and technology March on .im unsure whether electric technology will be the new time bomb in the future for the planet because of disposal and the industries only motive is profit and stuff the planet .but if we really look at the real environmental issue is humans over population and the need to feed the beast us .we are the virus killing the planet but I'm sure the planet will kick back with a new deadly bacterial strain we can't cure or we will be nuked to death by idiots in power .but look on the bright side your driving a nice lexus 😘

I watched a u tube video last night on the truimph Dolomite vs a BMW from the 70s I think 2002 both 1500-1600 cc giving 23 mpg lol with 123 bhp . Cars have come along way .my rx averages similar mpg to yours .we normally get 400-450 to a tank full on a steady run worst I've seen is 300 with me driving and no wife 😇. I must mention we always use shell v power and I'm banned from the car untill Sunday when I give it a run after checking it over levels etc ,as it sits most of the week on the drive. I like the car can't see us changing it anytime soon even for a newer model .

Just do a check for outstanding credit which a dealer normally does .drive the car for a decent amount of time on mixed roads no stereo on or sales knob talking in your ear ,does it pull well ,no pulling on steering side to side no abnormal noises does it pull up straight is the engine quiet and no smoking etc pull out dipstick colour and smell of oil freshness coolant levels ,check rad for signs of leaks and corrosion .pull up boot carpet and trim no water ingress or signs of crash damage .really the usual stuff get your overalls on and check the rear subframe and body lower seals for rot rust . Lastly check everything works inside take your time.

I suggest you pop along to Halfords and let them see what what's you have and then they will show your options .to be honest all toyota and lexus lights are rubbish . -
I think for me two service stamps are ok as long as I they are done at the correct mileage .and the hybrid health checks have been done .but really as long as the car has had a thorough inspection one a year or 10k whichever comes first is what the car manufacture expects you to do .just remember it may only be 23k over 5 years but they could have been some old boy or woman down farm tracks dust and muck .but all cleaned and polished up for the forecourt. You really need to prize out of the dealer who owned this car and it's usage .hard I know with GDPR rules these days .

Just a quick piece of advice when dealing with disconnecting battery's and reconnecting always neg terminal first and then positive and when reconnecting neg gets fitted last . This stops sparking terminals reducing the risk of exploding battery's when gasses are present .as will smith would sing boom boom shake the room .

All valid ideas and resolution but the only stumbling block is the guys knowledge and competence to carry out investigations and repairs . -
i can only recommend you just get a straight pipe welded in cheap as chips ,if it fails the mot on not being there keep a spare cat in the boot and just say ok weld that in pheasant then get your pass and then get the same pheasant to cut it out and fit straight pipe back in .this may seem strange but it's cheaper than buying multiple cats .its your money and I'm not really too fused regarding all these oh my god I've had my cat nicked and you should only replace it with a bloody lexus only gucci cat or your burn in hell Lexus do not make cats people any one will work from any maker , 90% of people on these forums just tout the bible mot regs book which is ok but I live in the real world and its open to common sense on the testers part .what you have to remember the mot test is only valid for 45 minutes. After this you could change anything on the car ,so unless the car is rotten or has perished knackered brake pipes etc and the car looks half decent underneath the tester dosent give a monkeys you have welded in a pipe he's more interested in is it secure and is it leak free is the car safe to be on the road . And if the spread sheet nerd walking past the viewing window gasped and said omg that's a fail the cats been removed I imagine he would be drinking his dinner through a straw that night . And to the final bit my qualifications I'm a bloody mot tester and your mot guy testing your car is far more interested in real safety items not emmision items he won't be testing.unless you point it out to him then my friend your a idiot and get your wallet out . Ok I've had a bit of a rant I just don't want you guys spending out your hard earned money due to scare monger .

I have known lots of issues cured with disconnecting the battery on a car .you have nothing to lose with trying this . There maybe things you have to do afterwards your owners manual will advise .i would advise checking all your fuses are ok and any relays within this boot opening circuit .if you have a multi meter test power to the boot opening motor when you press the button . We have had a member who had a tow bar install and there motor failed almost straight after , they fitted a used item and now it's ok . A piece of advise everyone looks for a quick fix this route normally ends in frustration .

As mark says above it all comes down to are you going to keep the car for long ? If you are then suspension swop to spring strut set up .if it's a wrecker now just trade it a lot of stealership are offering scrapage incentive schemes .or buy second hand struts and compressor . It's a roll the dice situation for you .
