I find that whenever I get a new car I am surprised to see how many other cars around of the same model. Maybe I wasn’t looking for them before!

Interesting! It seems that Europe is different from UK regarding warranties. I live in France and was told I could not get an extended warranty on the car only the battery even though the car had been serviced by Lexus in the England every year from new. They only give an extended warranty if the car is less than three years old

I use 95 and every now and then give it a treat with 98 ( if it has been behaving) but have not noticed any difference

Replaced after four years mainly due to leaving car at the airport for 4 weeks last January. Never really recovered, staggered on over the following year finally giving up the ghost on the cross channel ferry which was a little annoying!

12v Battery, the Achilles heel
westo3 replied to Brechin Slate's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I did a lot or research ( but not enough) before I bought mine and joined this site. Unfortunately it was not until the pandemic that the life of the 12 volt battery really came to the fore across the discussion boards. We tend to go away to sunnier climes for four or five weeks during Jan and Feb. (Obviously not this year) and even though I put the Cetek on when the car is not in use and have a starter pack in the boot I would not leave the car at the airport for that long as flattening the battery will ( I am led to believe) shorten its life. Fortunately we have another car that we can leave and be reasonably confident it will start when we get back. I understand the reasoning behind having such a small battery but cannot help thinking Toyota could have designed a way of putting in a normal battery so that it could be left unattended for longer periods of time. When talking to friends about this they are amazed that such an expensive and prestigious car cannot be left for more than three weeks unattended. -
Agree with Herbs I had exactly the same problem even though the car started all kinds of weird and wonderful error messages came up, ended up buying a new battery as the old one would not hold a charge for more than a day. Only three years old but I had left it last January to go on holiday for four weeks and it never really recovered.

Keeping a Lexus for the long term
westo3 replied to Spottedlaurel's topic in Lexus General Discussions
Bought both in the UK so £s. They are a lot more expensive in France in fact most 2nd hand cars in France are more expensive than in the UK I think it is something to do with France having far less company cars which tend to dilute UK second hand car market prices. -
Keeping a Lexus for the long term
westo3 replied to Spottedlaurel's topic in Lexus General Discussions
1 have been retired for 15yrs (retired at 55) and have moved to France bought the Lexus for driving long distance which I still find amazing even after several hours I still want to keep on driving. It is defiantly going to be my forever car. For £3000 how about an Audi TT? I know that they take a lot of stick re “hairdresser, car” etc but I bought a Mk1 1800 ( bullet proof golf GTI engine with a turbo and paddle shift) great fun, loved it but traded it in for a Mk.1 3.2 V6 convertible manual as they are fairly rare and just might go up in price long term. It goes like stink, 4 wheel drive and sounds fantastic, great for the French country roads in the sunshine! Bought a boot sticker which says “ There are no hair products kept in this car overnight” not too sure if the French get it but raises a chuckle when I am in England -

Unfortunately buying in France does have its drawbacks, they don’t believe in customer service! -
IS-F: Purchase Extended Warranty?
westo3 replied to pumatwin27's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
I live in France now and cannot get an extended warranty even though the car has been warranted from new in GB. In France it has to be renewed as soon as it has reached 3years old and a GB extended warranty does not qualify. -
Have already done that, apparently once the car is registered in another country the G.B. warranty is void. I do not understand that France will not let you buy an extended warranty even though the car has had continuous warranty in England and has been regularly serviced by a Lexus dealer and is still under 4 years old!
-
Having imported mine to France I went to my local Lexus dealer and was informed that I could not get an extended warranty as in France it has to be renewed before the car exceeds 3years old even though I had one in England! Looks like you get a far better deal in England. You would have thought that the same warranty qualification applied throughout Europe? Has anybody else had the same problems living outside the UK?

Cheers Herbs, a very comprehensive and informative answer. Thank-you. I have a jump start pack which I keep in the boot and I think I will have to get into the habit of charging it with my CTEK if I have not used the car for more than a week. Might look into a solar charger which I can leave permanently on.

To answer my own post! I assume anything after 2014 should be Ok. I have now got a new battery installed and was wondering how long it can go without having to re-charge it ie. leaving it at the airport etc. I find it unbelievable that a car at this level in price, luxury and renown reliability should have such a week spot that you cannot leave it unattended for any length of time! I still love it but it beggars belief! Do all hybrids suffer from the same problem?

Decided to put my car into ready mode for half an hour or so to charge the battery as I am not using it much during Covid. On looking round the car ( I know, naughty, naughty, should not get out of the car in ready mode) I noticed the front side lights were on but nothing illuminated at the back not too sure why the lights should be on anyway as it was quite bright. Is this normal?
