  1. Thanks for the feedback. The GT86 appears very good value, I'd need to take it out on a motorway test run. I think I'm still young enough to get away with the Civic, but a new one is working out the same monthly price as my RCF. Low mileage used would be the only option, but I'd be worried it had been ragged already. Really don't want the huge spoiler (personal taste). The Yaris ain't for me, but im delighted Toyota built it. Whatever i get (if I can sort out the sale) will be a compromise. Insurance due in Jan and £350 ish is far more tempting than £800 😬
  2. My wife has an XC60 T5, great car, but again the monthly is just too high right now. She really fancies the Mazda 3 and I can't blame her. I'm not a Merc fan boy, but the A35 is the only thing I can think of comparing to the type r. I've sat in a Gt86 and I was impressed to be fair, but I drive from Nottingham to London every week and I'm not sure it ticks that box. It would financially be a great deal however. Maybe i should just use the train more and get it anyway 😄 I've never had a Honda, the things I'd do for a NSX 🤤
  3. Oh I love the hunt. My starting point is knowing more about the car than the dealer (easy to do) and then they are out of their comfort zones 😄 I'm thinking of either max bang for the buck, or sensible refinement. 1. Civic type R (Honda reliability and great gearbox / driving dynamics) 2. Merc A35 similar perf and nice looking interior. 3. GT86, good looking car, driver focused, but worried about motorway refinement. 4. Mazda 3, great looking hatch, quality interior, mazda reliability and cracking manual box. 5. Volvo S60 T5 r design plus. Great all rounder. Not overly keen on audi / BMW, Golf R and GTi just don't do anything for me. All ideas welcome.
  4. What a cracking car the GR Yaris is. Future classic i feel. Just been running some insurance quotes. A type r is half the price of the RCF, that amazed me. I prefer the sport line (without the rear spoiler) but monthly costs are high. I simply won't be able to put a deposit together, unless I get lucky selling her. I'm open minded, would possibly prefer a lease, the new Volvo S60 is a nice looking car and in a great spec would be almost £300 a month cheaper on a 3 year lease. Most of the nearly news seem to sting you on the APR. If anyone sees anything that might be of interest, please feel free to scream it out. I want an engaging drivers car that is comfortable on the motorway. I want to avoid instantly regretting the sale and then be stuck for 3 years.
  5. There is a local dealer who trades in high end stuff. I'm going to give him a shout. He did up and sold my brothers car and he's a straight up guy. I think I can get a reasonable new car and save myself £300-400 a month. Shame the GT-86 is meant to be unrefined on the motorway. A civic type r is going to be too expensive, APR deal aint great on them.
  6. Thanks for the advice 🙂 She's in great condition, wanted for nothing obviously. Just a few stone chips, unfortunately even ceramic coat can't stop those. Below average miles at just under 39k and full main dealer history. Quick silver exhaust and a couple of genuine carbon fibre interior upgrades, but I will probably return to factory and make those available for sale on here. Truly a great car, but unfortunately the world has changed and as a couple, we spend too much on our cars. Looking into doing the same thing with my wife's. I'll call lexus finance tomorrow and go from there. If they put it up for £33/34k, its more than I paid 😅
  7. Just jumping on this thread rather than starting a new one. Due to covid, my job has taken a real hammering and is quite possibly set to get worse over the next few months. I'm potentially looking to downgrade, as my RCF is too hard to justify right now. I'm 11 months off the 50% point of my HP, however given what they are advertised for on autotrader, I might not have much negative equity to clear, so a part ex might be possible. My question is, part ex value wise, the free guide figures have varied from £22k 🤮🤬 to £24750, which imho is still low. I don't have a settlement figure yet, but its probably around £26k. I know damn well they would put her up for sale for between £29k -£31k using the others available as a guide. I'm concerned that most dealers are going to try and fleece me, as it is such a niche car. Any thoughts? Cheers
  8. Yes the redline moves around as she warms up, its a nice touch 👌
  9. Yeah I did consider that, however it started to suggest shifting up at similar revs shortly after 😆 I was stuck behind a slower car 😄
  10. Just took her for a blast, let the redline move around to 7000, oil temp showing 25% and moved to M and sport +. 2 or 3 times i went to upshift at over 2000 rpm from 5th-6th but it took 2 or 3 attempts to change, downshift was fine on every selection. Tried using the lever and probably a coincidence it shifted each time perfectly. After those 2 or 3 occasions it worked flawlessly, I was regularly shifting up and down through different rev ranges and it shifted each time. It down shifts automatically during low speed manoeuvring just in case you're an idiot and forget lol 😆 I have noticed it gets confused occasionally when flipping from M to D and it remains in D but seems to want me to continue shifting manually. It appears to stay like this until I switch between the 2 modes again sometimes.
  11. Yep, oh dear, I'll have to go out for a blast, what a shame 😄
  12. Never had a DSG, I had a 640d and after that the Alfa Giulia (2.0 not 2.9). I may have just been spoilt by my alfas box, but I will mention to lexus.
  13. She is under the extended warranty, so if I notice it again, I will mention to Lexus. I guess it could be an electrical or software gremlin.
  14. I'm due in Jan, not looking forward to it, 38 and 15 years NCB, clean licence etc but Nottingham postcode. Currently with LV, its going to be another £800 I'm sure 😬 The Alfa was soooooooo much cheaper, even the Giulia Quadrafoglio was around half the price. Will try Chris Knott.
  15. I've not taken her out for a while, if we get some better weather, I'll do some experimenting with it. It might be harsh comparing her with the Alfa which is a renowned drivers car, but its my last car experience so its natural to compare. Cheers all for comments 👍
  16. It definitely isn't a delay, its a... "what did you want again?"... click a second time, "oh right" here you go thing. I find it frustrating especially when I'm enjoying a spirited drive. Love the car, but this is one of very few negative points for me.
  17. I think it is more paddles than using the lever, but tbf I don't really use the lever to shift. Sorry I forgot to say RCF, but I guess could also apply to GSF. The 8 speed ZF on my Alfa was just so much more crisp on the shift.
  18. No definitely not. This is after a long cruise up the m1. I treat the engine like its made from glass until its warm.
  19. Original 90's NSX, Oh how I wish I had 30k a few years ago, I'd have been laughing financially. Stunning car. Really like the Civic Type R Sportline, I'm a sucker for Japanese reliability. Toyota have hit it out the park with the new Yaris GR it seems. If work situation doesn't change I might have to hand mine back and downgrade significantly, I honestly like the new Mazda 3, cracking looking imho If I can hold on to her, a LC would be my next move in 4 or 5 years. Only elec car I like is the Taycan, if you are forced to spend over £50k, may aswell go for a full fat option.
  20. Hey all. I've noticed since I've owned the beast, that sometimes I click to shift gear and nothing happens. It can take a couple of clicks to change gear. Has anybody else noticed this? It also frustrates me i don't seem to have full manual control, even with the lever shifted over to M, it changes for me sometimes, rather annoying. Cheers
  21. Love the colour. I will probably get mine wrapped to protect the paint as best possible. This is a similar colour to what I'm thinking of 👍 Subject to me being able to hang onto her, thanks covid.
  22. Congrats and welcome to the fold 👊
  23. Quick update, new pads seem to be absolutely fine and zero squeal. Happy 👍
  24. Had the tyre skipping issue whilst at full lock on my Alfa Romeo Giulia. As others have said, it's a known problem with certain cars, when the tyres warmed up it was fine.
  25. Looks beautiful, I was drooling over it a week or so back. Apologies for the poor photography.
