Yes, always drive in Eco mode. I have had sports cars and motorcycles over the years but my RX450h does all I need in this mode nowadays. It's so strange that it has only hesitated a vey few times. On the last occasion I was keeping slow place in queue with traffic as approached traffic lights. When the lights turned green, everybody accelerated and not wishing to leave too big a gap I did what I normally would do pressed the gas pedal a little more but nothing happened. The distance increased between me and the car in front so I had to press the pedal quite a it more to get a response and then the car took off. So I then had to brake as I caught up very quickly with the car in front. Not the way I like to drive. This only seems to have happened when a bit of moderate acceleration from electric mode to requiring the engine to cut in. There has never been a time I can recall when underway with engine that it does not provide instantaneous acceleration. So I think it must be lag in transitioning to engine power when on electric power. I will mention it to Lexus Cheltenham and get their opinion. I will also take the opportunity to ask whether the car had any due recalls as they know the history of it having serviced it from new.

Hi Folks, On a couple of occasions last year I experienced hesitancy when proceeding slowly on light throttle and using only electrical powered momentum but then pressing the gas pedal more nothing happened. This happened twice today and I was obliged to press the pedal quite firmly whereupon the car accelerated more than I really wanted. For those of you that are familiar with carb fuelled cars, it was like a flat spot. The coolant was up to temperature. This has happened either side of a major Lexus service including new s/plugs. I have avoided using the E10 petrol and the trip computer showed about 90 miles left, about a quarter of a tank full. Has anybody else experienced this and if so were they able to resolve it?

Agree look for alternative source of parts before scrapping. It is a salutary reminder for me and perhaps others who intend to keep their cars for some years, to get under them in good time and treat rust and apply protection including in box sections. A pain to do but if it defers scrapping worth it. There are specialists who will do this and I will investigate this but doubtless not cheap. So that looks like a project for next summer,

Maybe Lexus dealerships, or at least some of them, are following procedure more assiduously, particularly as they are now giving extended warranty with each service. Changing s/plugs is quite involved due to difficulty of reaching the rear bank but should should not be essential for 80+K miles. However, looked at through Lexus eyes, they don't want you to start departing from the set procedure by omitting this and that.

Well that depends on whether the car has been serviced by Lexus. I asked at my last service at Lexus dealership if the plug replacement could be deferred as my car had only just gone over 40K miles. I was told it had to be done on age if I wanted service book stamped. I was told you can't just omit parts of due service. If car is serviced elsewhere you might well be able to get get book stamped even if plugs not changed.

I discussed this with Lexus dealership when my car was being serviced awhile back. They mentioned that Cross Climates were being adopted and favourably reported on by many and having replaced the original Dunlops. I found them better in most respects. In particular I liked that they were quiet and gave a comfortable ride with lighter steering and were not lacking in other areas. So essentially, this is with the same car as yours Si.

RX450h air suspension
Barry14UK replied to abtx's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Well my fronts were knocking at circa 40K miles on a 2015 car and one boot had slipped down. It had been previously held up by a zip tie. The car had been bought new from Lexus Cheltenham and all services done by them. I was the second owner and the car has not been thrashed. These two struts cost about 2K and that was after Cheltenham and I secured about £200 off in goodwill but even then it was conditional that the £200 was put towards an extended warranty (which was available at the time). £2,000 is more than I have spent on the the necessary parts on my E39 BMW in the 14 or so years I have had it! -
Showed the Toyota bz on NHK World Japan today, being all electric suv that should be avaiable next summer as the forerunner of a new range but didn't say if it would be in UK then. Interesting that the solar encapsulated roof will help keep the battery charged. I think you can see the influence of the RX in it but those great black wheel arch extensions look auwful to me, although maybe practical if you live on a farm or like going off road! It will be interesting to see how Lexus better it. Anyway, for anybody else like me not previously aware, here are some details and pics. What do you think? Here is the 4 wheel version. https://www.toyota.co.uk/world-of-toyota/bz4x/#/gallery/3060-2384029-4/3

It's unfortunate that car makers usually fit the inferior type of calipers even on their top models nowadays. Pistons operated from one side only and dependent on sliding pins are not going to work as well as one or more pistons pushing directly against the disk from both sides, as fitted to high perfomance or brake upgraded cars. I suppose it's a matter of cost saving. Even my 1967 MK 2 Humber Sceptre had opposed pistons on it's front discs, so we seem to have gone backwards in this respect.

Don't know about batteries for other cars but several members on the RX forum have bought batteries from Lexus Direct at Swindon who discount parts. I bought some discounted parts from them which they sent to me. So always worth getting a quote from them who are official Lexus dealer

RX450h air suspension
Barry14UK replied to abtx's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
That accords with what a major Lexus dealership told me when I raised the query with them. With models of some marques testers considered optional aircon improved the ride considerably, (the Audi Q5 was an example). However, the generally expressed view has been that the RX aircon in the 3rd generation did not significantly improve comfort and components were expensive to replace where necessary - I can personally attest to the latter. It has been suggested that less travel on the RX air struts didn't help. Maybe adverse comment about RX 450h air suspension on previous generations or perhaps changes to improve suspension on the 4th generation meant Lexus dropped it. Nobody has come up with a definitive reason or this as far as I am aware, so it remains a subject of speculation. s -
Similar experience to David although I did spend out on genuine Toyota manuals for my Camry quite some years ago. I also have referred quite extensively to the Haynes manual for my E39 (although it's for an earlier version). I have found among other things that it is useful to have reference to torque figures. Lexus complexity means I would now get Lexus or a good Independent to do other than simple jobs and I think the latter is true for most owners.

Towing eye
Barry14UK replied to Ray Green's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Don't know about your 4th generation car but there is no conventional eye type point for attaching at the rear on my 3rd gen. There is just a fixed bolted bracket at each side beneath bumper at the rear with hole. I assume this is what would be used to pull car backwards a short distance in an emergency. I believe the car should not be pulled back far so maybe reason the eye type for front not provided. Just read my hand book and there are cautions which should be observed about moving vehicle to avoid transmission damage. -
As this thread has been added to, I will mention another aspect. When I ordered these pads from Auto Rock, the fronts and rears came from different depots far apart. I have found that these can only be returned to the depot from whence they came, so returning them this way, rather than in one parcel to a single deport, makes this uneconomical. So I am left with OEM pads that are of no use to me. It is very unlikely that a US spec RX will have been imported to the UK but some Highlanders (and possibly some other models) of US spec may have been and I believe some of these at least use the pads I now have surplus to my requirements. So if these may be of interest to anybody for a nominal cost as they are quite heavy to post, please contact me. The fronts are referenced ACT1324A and the rears ACT1391A, the 'A' indicating they include the auxiliary pack of clips and springs.

We have some steep hills here in North Devon and I usually set my cc at about 63mph knowing that the speedo and corresponding HUD read about 3mph fast at this speed. However, the car does gain further speed of maybe 4 or so mph over the indicated speed down a long or steep hill but when this is occasionally exceeded, I lightly touch the brake which of course requires a reset of the cc. So another confirmation of car not braking automatically in these circumstances.

Lexus Essential Care Servicing - Discontinued?
Barry14UK replied to AFlex's topic in Lexus General Discussions
I asked about the essential service recently as my car is now 5+ years old. Lexus Cheltenham told me that this is no longer available. Furthermore, they would no longer give a discount to 'Gold Members' on the standard service charges which have increased no doubt due to the extended warranty now given with each service. It's nice to have a book full of Lexus stamps but maybe there comes a time where one has to consider the value of this and the restricted warranty provided compared with the lower cost of service by an indy. -
Interesting suggestion. It was never a car that sold in great numbers and I wonder if current models are readily available or have to be specially imported from Japan. This seems to be a late model Personally, I prefer the shape of an earlier model as advertised in this link and being an old fashioned guy might have taken a look at it but for my dodgy back, better suited to an suv. https://www.gumtree.com/p/honda/2009-honda-legend-fsh-lpg-great-condition/1414693991

Agree nothing is forever, otherwise manufacturers would have to keep parts for cars going right back to their original offerings. However, it seems reasonable to me that for as long as manufacturers carry spares for a particular car, they should undertake free replacement if it came to light that an owner subsequently discovered that a part that should have been replaced had not been. There are a number of reasons why a previous owner may not have taken the car in for a recall. How many drivers when purchasing a used car check that all recall work had been done? I don't believe even many used car dealers check on this before selling on cars. Maybe this should be a requirement?

I would have thought that if Lexus had put out a TSB on it they should do foc even belatedly. I was advised by BMW that I should have them change a component in my 2001 5 series steering wheel. I told them the car was off the road for an extended time pending a few repairs but that I would be happy to remove the entire steering wheel so they could do the necessary which concerned the air bag. They declined to do this but said that when I do eventually get the car to them my local BMW dealership, they will replace affected part foc.
