Black IS250 F Sport Basic Mods and Tweaks d
H3XME replied to McShmoopy's topic in Modifications & Tuning
Coming along nicely, just needs some good pics of the outside 😉 -
Hi, Has anyone got or know someone who has MK1 GS300 or Aristo (if import)? I'm looking for a project, price to reflect please. Thanks, Lucas

It's a personal preference. You want the chrome surround done in the same grey as the car? Unless you de-chrome the rest of the car to match, I don't think it will look that good.. I'm not a massive fan of chrome and despite having black grill, I quite like the chrome around the windows, it doesn't make it look blacked out and tacky like people often do.. again, personal preference. Anyway, here's a quick photoshop of it could look like in grey..

Resurrecting an old thread. Did anything fix it or you just live with it? I have the same P0420 code, came on about 14months ago for the first time after I was revving its ti*s off in the snow. The car was running very hot, I think the cats just had it. I clear mine with OBD app and it stays off generally for good few weeks at a time. I can't say I've noticed anything different about the car at all, idle, fuel economy etc is all fine.

@Jeff180sx I had a look and I must say.. Are you sure you're looking at the right temps? Not water by any chance? I do not have an oil sensor therefore it cannot be read. Tried 2 apps, thinking it might be that, but it isn't because it came up on the 86, but not on the Lexus. Not all cars have oil temp sensors. And since your car is also 2008, I'd be very surprised if you have it.

That's still very different to driving on the track, shifting at 6000RPM every gear, aggressively downshifting and putting the car under load 100% of the time. I don't think it would be as dramatic as something going bad after 10mins of driving like that as Linas suggests, but nevertheless these autos aren't made for this. Irrelevant now anyway, OP has a manual, he'll be alright but again, for any sort of racing I'd be seriously considering replacing the stock DMF with single mass flywheel from Fidenza for ~£600

None at all. It's not really that exposed anyway.. I just had to remove it because of the mesh grill. It's been on the car for the past 30k miles and it's been fine.

I'll have a look for you when I go on my lunch dude. I don't remember being able to read oil temp though. I wouldn't worry too much if you let it cool down. I removed all my engine covers and the blanking plate behind the grill for better air flow on mine. I don't do track days, but it does drift days without issues and that's arguably worse since you don't carry such speeds to cool it down on the go. Some cars run hot, my GT86 ran around 110 when driving normal, but it's a boxer engine so irrelevant. If anything, keep an eye out on water temp, if that goes too high then it won't cool the engine down, and if you're planning on getting serious, I'd go for thicker oil since the operating temp is gonna be a lot higher than normal and change back to 5W30 after if it's daily driven.

IS250 1 weeks ownership

That's interesting.. mine has never been changed. 167,000miles, 2008 car. Spark plugs have only been done once at ~60k as well.. it was on its original battery until tail end of 2020 as well. I better put some £££ aside for things that should've gone bad tens of thousands of miles ago 🤣 I'm not replacing or fixing something that isn't broken. -

Went to the monthly Daikoku meet at Caffeine and Machine down in Stratford-Upon-Avon. Took a few pics. -

I scrape regularly on the chassis rails. It'll be alright 😅 steep incline is worse than speed bumps. I don't think I'll manage multi story car parks now BUT on the plus side it's a poly lip so very flexible. -

It managed smaller speed bumps with some manoeuvres. So far it's not causing any issues when doing my daily miles but it did make me drive slower on roads I don't know😂 The real test is on Wednesday when I need to drive to Caffeine & Machine in Stratford for Daikoku meet.. -

Finally managed to get the front lip I wanted for so long. None of the US sellers ship to the UK nowadays. This lip was on my mate's facelift, so was a bit hesitant about fitment as the facelift bumper is slightly different when looking at it and A LOT different when it came to fitting this lip.. I had to do a lot of filing and sanding but managed to get it all sorted in the end. Cutting, filing, sanding and painting all in one afternoon. Came out quite good, given it's not meant for this bumper.. Better than nothing though! I'm happy with it for now. -
It's 16mm for pre-facelift, so yours. Poly bushes will be good if it's just sway bars, it won't make any real difference on its own in terms of stiffness.

Anyone selling isf?

It looks fairly tidy. 146k is nothing for a V8. I find a lot of big engine cars have more owners just because people get one and realise they don't wanna pay the fuel bill etc. The "common" issues haven't been addressed because there may not be any issues yet.. use that as a leverage for the price, but then again saying "you need to go lower on this car because XYZ will go wrong" is ambitious. Water pump etc will go on every car at some point, you don't see it being reflected on price when it's not an issue at the time. If you got it for £12k you're laughing. I can see from the photos there's a small bumper gap on the right side with the boot open. Just got view it, haggling over something you ain't seen in person is silly. -
I just had a look and did some numbers just out of curiosity.. Correct me if I'm wrong. RC200t F-Sport Auto - 4 cylinder turbo engine producing 242hp & 258ft/lbs - 0-60 in 7.5s - Power-to-weight ratio is 146hp/t 428i M-Sport Auto - 4 cylinder turbo engine producing 242hp & 258ft/lbs - 0-60 in 5.8s - Power-to-weight ratio is 164hp/t RC300h F-Sport Auto - 4 cylinder hybrid producing combined 220hp & 163ft/lbs - 0-60 in 8.6s - Power-to-weight ratio is 126hp/t 420i M-Sport Auto - 4 cylinder turbo engine producing 181hp & 217ft/lbs - 0-60 in 7.3s - Power-to-weight ratio is 122hp/t Despite RC300h having better power-to-weight ratio than 420i, it's noticeably slower with a completely different power delivery, so if numbers like this are a deciding factor to anyone whether to go for X or Y, don't bother. Drive it. Numbers are numbers and feelings are feelings. Not to mention, manufacturers like to tell porkies when it comes to power figures. The new Supra is rated to 335hp, yet dyno proves its closer to 375hp. GT86 is rated to 200hp, yet dyno proves 185hp.. It can go either way. Depends on the engine I guess.

So? Often manufacturers use the same drivetrain in multiple cars with slight tweaks to suit the chassis or the nature of the car it's in. Not here. I was optimistic about driving it. I figured after driving the ISh that they just made it a bit dull on purpose because it's a lux saloon. I'd never look at it and think "hmm, this better drive like a sports car" and my mistake was looking at the RCh that way and it's easily done, just look at it.. It looks great, but it's all show and no go in this version.
-
I didn't slag it off completely though did I.. I like the car itself. I hate the drivetrain in it. It's an RC forum, not specifically RCh forum.. If anything, I wasn't typing out my thoughts to the owners, that's pointless, like you said, they know. It's more so for people like me who are toying with the idea of getting one. I hate to go on a forum of a car I'm interested in and all I find is super biased bollocks that is no good. I think I stayed objective enough. It's a great car, just not in the hybrid version for what I want to do with the car. I said before, I had an IS300h for a couple of days and I can't fault it as it is, but I have no sporty expectations from a car like that.. The RC on the other hand...
-
I was only describing my limited experience with that car as I said before. What I was stating were facts & opinions. I'm not lecturing anyone, I'm simply a sharing my opinion with others. First impressions matter, and if you get something you need to get used to because you're a bit "meh" about it at first, it's not right imo. Especially when you're spending tens of thousands of pounds on it. I said multiple times now, the RC300h does not suit me. It's not what I expected, and it's not something people like me will enjoy, hence why I described my experience and reasoned my view. You don't need to spend hours or days with a car to figure out that it's slow & unresponsive. Sure, MPGs is a different story, that's dependant on many factors, but like I said, in the same short drive, my V6 would achieve the same numbers. I'm not saying that people who bought RC300h made the wrong choice, I'm only saying that if I purchased RC300h, I would make a wrong choice because it's not for me, and me only. If you see a review of something, and someone says "it's sh*t, it's not for me" you will wonder why. I'm simply saying why in all these paragraphs 😉 and if you don't share any of my values & views, then you will go ahead, but if you do, you will not be getting a hybrid version of this particular car.
