    Adam hi, good morning

Are you using this car as a daily driver ? or has it been laid up thru' the covid time and you're just bringing her back into regular use ?

Reason I ask is that after mine was effectively left for a long long time doing almost nothing I too had some very strange coolant level problems ..........  when she got back into daily use mode

    Malc

It's in daily use. I do 150 miles a week (on LPG).

Not sure what's going on with the coolant levels.

Assuming the engine is fully warmed up and confirmed by temperature gauge, low coolant level which should flag a warning light or poor coolant circulation (when was the water pump last replaced).

Check the heater valve mounted on the engine bay firewall is open by feeling both rubber pipes connected to it, they should both be a similar temperature indicating the valve is open and coolant is flowing.

I've never changed the water pump in my 3 years ownership. Previous owner changed the cam belt so might have also changed the water pump. Not 100% sure.

I've noticed during my ownership that the coolant nearly always goes below 'LOW' level when cold. Is this an issue?

I was just going to say "why on Earth do you want to sell an appreciating asset?

I`d keep it and run it on an occasional basis. Discus low mileage options with your Insurance Company and buy a CTEX Battery Charger to maintain the condition of the battery. If you SORN it you will still have to insure it and brakes will rust and seize and other events will occur through non-use.

If you sell it you will se it advertised for £5000 and you will not sleep at night !

That's definitely an idea. I'll chat to my insurance and see what they say.

  4. Hello

I'm thinking of selling my LS430 for personal reasons.

Can members give me an estimated realistic price I should advertise it for.

A bit about the car -

    It's got 197k on it and it's a 2003.

Mechanically absolutely sound. No issues at all. Just the CD player doesn't work.

    Extra gearbox radiator installed.

I've serviced it on time every time.

I think it's a bit rare because it's black with black interior. And it's got factory fitted coils so it's non air suspension from factory. No rear seat functions.

    LPG converted 9 months ago.

    What's my LS430 worth?

    Thanks

  5. Hello

okay so in a previous thread I asked if the rocker seal labour cost of £100 is okay. Was reassured by members on that.

However, I just got the car back after the mechanic changed the rocker seal and spark plug gaskets and now the Check VSC and Engine lights are on!

Whats going on do you recon.

He said is bringing up p1656 code.

    One headache after another!

    Please help.

A new vsv sensor. The part itself is about £60 from lexus dealer but replacing it costs just over £300 as its deep down in the engine. There is a way of bypassing it, but I'm not sure how you do it.

It won't affect a thing, you can still drive your car, but you'll have engine management light on

Good to know it won't effect my daily driving.

But if there's a fix or a bypass then I'll definitely try it.

But if I get my mechanic to do the job then what does it exactly involve.?

    Any tutorials around?

An OBD2 reader from ebay should diagnose the majority of problems. I paid about £4 for mine and there are a variety of free apps that work on your phone.  For basics and a quick diagnosis you can't beat it. Especially as people say "That's just because of the LPG". I was told that and it turned out to be one of the O2 sensors.

On the oil, if it's just a fraction over, I imagine it's probably still within tolerance of the engine, but a diagnosis will confirm.

Just drove home and now there's no engine light on.

It's got a mind of its own

  8. Hello

Recently serviced the LS430 changed the engine oil and oil filter only.

I noticed that the mechanic added too much engine oil which was slightly above the second notch on the dip stick. Is this a problem?

This morning the engine light comes on. Do you recon its related to the level of engine oil?

Should I ask the mechanic to drain some of it?

Btw the car is in LPG and has had no issues previously save for the wheel hub.

    Thanks
