  1. This was on a MkII Gs300:-

If you have problems starting your car after restiing the ECU, you need to leave it standing with the ignition turned to "ON" for 6 minutes the turn it "OFF" then restart.

I had to do this this morning after resetting the ECU.

  2. Sorry to hear that mate.

Obviously going to an independant garage is going to save you a few quid and none of the work is anything that only a Lexus technician should do, take it to an independant is my opinion.

You can pick up alloys and tyres for alot less than Lexus charge. Rear brake disks can be done yourself easily.

Is the ball joint not under warranty, just had both my front ones done under an extended warranty?

  3. I got loads of pics of the car, i went to most BTCC races that year and got some good photos. It was a fine looking car, but it was the only rear wheel drive car on the grid and it took alot longer to get heat into the rear tyres than the fronts on the others so it struggled at the start of races. Coupled with some bad luck and some dubious driving at times it didn't do too well, but it got on the podium a couple of times if I remember.

I will post the pics in the gallery later.

  4. unlucky with that Head Gasket. Hope you get back on track soon, Greybeard.

Thanks all for the welcome and the gold xplanation. SOunds good for big spenders. Wish I could have got an extra few % off the new LS  Still, it keeps me from paying tax, so I can't complain :winky:

And yikes!, you guys seem to be on here none stop... Guy there must be a few retired types on here.

    Xan

    Work in IT, retired....same thing!

  5. I successfully changed the rear disks yesterday, took about an hour overall, dead easy. I now have Mintex replacement OE pads all round and genuine Lexus replacement rear disks. I can now stop properly!

Murphy's law though....About five minutes after fitting them I was driving home and a young child (about 7 I think) runs out into road in front of me forcing me to stand on the brakes! Not the best way to bed them in!

If he had been any smaller I could have just hit him and saved the brakes but he was just a little too big to avoid front end damage. Seriously though, he was a lucky lad and the brakes still feel fine so happy days :winky:

  6. I test drove a Jag a while back, and the figures the dealer gave me had 'ford finance' on them.

    Telegraph Motoring section last week...

Chap having trouble with his new Jag

Was told to take it to a Ford garage, as it is a Ford engine

That wouldn't make me feel too good, not being a snob either, but having to take your jag to a ford dealer might take some of the prestige away?

  7. Well it goes like this.....

rear brake pads easy enough to do.

The rear disks I was supplied with by Mintex were the wrong ones! but the disks came off as easy as anything, no persuasion at all was needed. It turns out that the Lexus OEM rear disks are cheaper than the correct Mintex part so I am fitting them this Sunday (1/2 hour max)

Front brake pads are easy if you can undo the bolts that hold the calliper on, mine were an absolute bugger to get off!! Didn't change front disks but they are dead easy when you get the calliper off!

But all in all, 1 broken thumb and a few hours work has saved me £400. :winky:
