  1. I'll add in a Plus 1 to the never go back to a Merc comments. I had a few and my last one was a 2006 S Class - one owner, full service history, low mileage "cherished" example sold "as seen on behalf of a customer" from a local so called dealer. I should have known better 🤨 Electrical gremlins, dodgy suspension and the final nail in the coffin an faulty gearbox put the idea that an S Class was the ultimate car firmly out to pasture. (I was coming from a Range Rover and on reflection should have just spent the money doing it up and keeping it I would have saved myself a few grand. Anyway, enough of that I bought my 2006 model with a good service history and few niggles but all have been more or less sorted now for very humble money I had the cam belt done as a precaution as the car had only done 76,000 miles however it was 13 years old (I read somewhere do the belts at or before 100,000 or ten years) and it was on its last legs so a job well worth doing. My car came in from Southern Ireland and has a KPH speedo that I have to change and no sunroof (Sun? in Ireland?) 🙂 Everything bar the afore mentioned steering wheel motors works, I updated the SatNav with a Disc from the interwebs for £19 (2018) and the only problem seems to be the inability to type in a postcode but to be honest I rarely use it. Air con is still ice cold but do check the condition of the drivers seat cushion, mine has "flattened" out over the years and is a little uncomfortable slightly spoiling the entire "magic carpet" sensation (its not that bad I can live with it but its on my list to get sorted) And yes, you do see boy racers coming past - those that know nod in approval, those that don't sometimes find out there is a lot of life in a 13 year old 4.3 V8 😉
  2. I was going to fit my missing centre cap on the wheel as it just arrived from the states (as nobody in the UK seemed to have one) but they sent it in a standard jiffy bag and of course its arrived crushed - so I now have to wait to see if they will replace it and hopefully this time send it in bubble wrap in a little box marked "do not crush" 😕
  3. That's very common and there are any amount of answers on Google 🙂 I get it a lot and it's not just the Lexus - another thing is if I don't get it from the car I can get a zap from the tap in the kitchen if I touch it before grounding on anything else https://www.wikihow.com/Get-out-of-a-Car-Without-Getting-Shocked-by-Static-Electricity
  4. eBay item number: I think that's the same vendor but current listing eBay item number is 264237608712 Literally plug and play
  5. These happened 🙂 £11 on eBay and also the first set of cheap door lights that actually fit perfectly as well - I will say they are not quite as bright as I thought they would be but they do the job just fine
  6. These appeared 🙂 As I mentioned in another thread I like them so that's all that matters really 🙂
  7. My point exactly - the seats still work so I would like to keep the option - however none of my local upholstery places will even look at it let along try and fix it and its too complicated for me to tackle not to mention the car is my daily driver so I can't really take it off the road for very long either - its looking like a lump of breathable foam in a breathable seat coloured fabric might be my only option also on badges these appeared by magic (just lurking out of sight) well, I like them so that's all that matters really
  8. In this case from what I can gather the cushion has basically just "flattened out" over time - I am sort of thinking its a common enough problem that one from a scrappy might be just as bad if not worse and the only issue is over here in Ireland there are not to many LS430's let alone scrapped ones 😕 I tried a few "fixes" such as a cover (that was about 2 inches short) and a small cushion but both of those moved around and of course blocked the vents. Still, I shall keep looking 🙂
  9. Quoting a line from the films "Treasure of the Sierra Madre/Blazing Saddles" is one way of starting a post I suppose 🙂 anyway I took a notion I would like to have Black badges on my (Silver) car. So, a quick look around the interwebs and I spotted "Black Pearl" emblems for sale. I was quite excited until I saw the price 😲 Average just under $300 including shipping. Really? ***** Turpin wore a mask you know.... So - has anyone found any cheaper or would it be just as handy for me to take my own off and wrap/paint them? Also - So far I have found and replaced my inner arch, am awaiting a wheel cap to be delivered and sailed through the MOT with the exception of being told to replace my instrument cluster with one that has MPH and KPH on it. Slight judder still in the brakes that I will get looked at over the next few days and so far to date since buying the car last year I have just under 4000 miles done in absolute luxury and quiet (apart from when I turn up the sound system) 🙂 just still having the issue of a not so comfortable seat cushion that I am having difficulty getting fixed because of the vented/heated options (at least locally anyway) I don't suppose anyone knows of anyone in Ireland that can sort that out or maybe operates an exchange program were they could send me out a seat and I return mine? (clutching at straws there but if you don't ask)
  10. I get conflicting info from different people, but 2 people in the test centre both said it (we have a slightly different system to England here) but being as the south of Ireland is in KPH and is but a stones throw from me it makes no sense - also I know off the top of my head the speed conversions so I don't see the issue - I did a bit more research and it seems its a fairly straight forward swap (about 6 screws) and if I am right there is no changing of the readout needed as the miles are stored in the ECU? (probably not knowing my luck) I do want to keep the car as original as possible but if it means I fail the MOT next year I'll have to do something. No point in me asking my local government ministers as they are asleep at the wheel. Oh as an aside, just to clarify my car is not a Japanese import but an Irish market model "imported" into the North 🙂
  11. So I went for my first MOT today with my imported LS430 and while I passed I was told by the MOT bloke that I needed to have a MPH speedo either by a sticker or change of clock. It's an odd situation as the car was imported into County Offaly (Southern Ireland) as new and then was brought up here to Northern Ireland last year and registered but I don't understand why this was not mentioned when it was MOT'd then (a legal requirement) all that aside can anyone recommend the best way? I really do not like the idea of a cheap looking sticker however the very thought of pulling the dash out to replace the module is also not very appealing (and the cost no doubt) Oh, and other than that it passed with no issues at all 🙂
  12. I've a mate in Dublin that did a bit of private hire and said to be honest his clients very rarely cared what the car was as long as it was comfortable and quiet - most preferring to blend in than stand out. His Black LS 430 was perfect for that especially in the reliability stakes (both the S Class Merc and subsequent Audi A8's he drove spent more time in the garage than out of it) but what stopped it for him was the almost 1900 Euro's a year car tax plus rising fuel and insurance costs (not to mention the amount of illegal ubers kicking about) but to answer your question the Lexus over the 300c anyday (although I dare say if you ask the same question on a 300c forum you will get the opposite answer) 😂
  13. Thanks - I had ordered a set of those Toyota ones from ebay, turned out it was a Chinese seller and after I waited nearly 2 weeks for them they were far too small. But anyway I didn't know there was supposed to be grommets and there are none so that explains that - so it looks like those will do the job. Of course I never thought of looking at the other side to see what type of screws are in there 🙄 I'll check them in the morning and see whats there 🙂
  14. So I found an inner arch liner (eventually) but have no clips - looking on ebay I see a number of different ones so does anyone know what I need to fit the liner in? I assume its fairly standard push clips but is there a part number? Also I bought some carpet clips for my front mats but they are far too small is there a part number for those or has anyone any recomendations on how to stop them slipping? vecro? nailing the things down? 🙂 ta
  15. I was told I needed "Platinum" Spark plugs in my Jaguar however I discovered that ordinary plugs worked just as well if changed during normal servicing and in 8 years had no issues - There may be a different way of doing things with the LS430's though so I would wait for somebody with actual knowledge to chip in 🙂
  16. I use mine as a daily - I dont do a huge amount of miles but do fairly regular 100 mile return dual carriageway and motorway trips at least once a month - pottering about town I get below 20mpg but It would not pay me to convert to LPG - my last car a Jaguar XJ8 was already converted and I only sold that as it was too small and low to the ground but to sum up I would rather drive the LS than a rattly eurobox.
  17. Ok cheers I'll do that tomorrow or as soon as - I did go around the main door seals with that Gummi Pflege stuff but not the internal rubber - I'll see how that goes 🙂
  18. Just bringing this back up - has anyone in the UK got a drivers side plastic splash guard (Inner fender) for my 2006 registered (built in 2005) face lift? or one of these wheel caps ?
  19. @The-Acre Had a quick spin and cracking the window slightly seems to have done it (at least the noise seems to have stopped) ideas? I put the window down a few inches then put it back up again and it seems ok (although I have not gone to far yet)
  20. Ok I'll try that tomorrow and see how it goes 🙂
  21. Odd one this, I seem to have developed a rattle/noise (non metallic) it sounds like a loose door card or seat rubbing but I can't see anything and it seems to be coming from the rear passenger side - has anyone had something like that before?
  22. I bought a genuine off ebay for slightly less (at least if its not genuine its a VERY good copy) 🙂 as you say its great to be able to see the satnav on actual roads and not a big empty space - My phone (Huawei P20) works just fine on the Bluetooth including the phone book and I find that plus the updated satnav a bit of an eye opener when you consider the age of the car, not even my same year (06) S Class could do that 😕
  23. Slowly but surely I am getting around to fixing all the little niggles cosmetically on the car - today as it was about 17 degree's (for February?) I put the bumper trims on front and rear (rear pictured as I forgot to do a "before on the front" 🙂 nobody will notice I imagine but I know they are done so I am happy enough Next up somehow find a wheel centre cap to match the ones I have and then see about either painting or "wrapping" the roof panel black (I wanted a 2 tone car so I shall have one - sort of) then either powdercoat the alloys or buy a nice set (depends on the bank balance)
  24. 89341-5001 is for the corner sensor 89341-50020 is a centre one - I am pretty sure they are the same ones front and back but somebody else might know for sure
  25. Thanks I'll look into the puddle light replacement - Just as an aside I bought the disk from eBay after checking it was compatible (seller asked for photo of my current disk) and swapped it over with no issues at all, it worked straight out of the box 🙂 Now I can see the roads around our house instead of a blank screen 🙂
