  1. I'm thinking I must be suffering from some sort of undiagnosed medical condition as I can't seem to keep a car any longer than a year, my V12 AMG lasted 14 months and now the the RCF 14 months. Time to move onto something else. I know the rules on selling but for those interested it's on Pistonheads and Autotrader
  2. Good choice, normally I'd say mine is up for sale as I've had it over a year now. Personally speaking I found the later cars with the AVS preferable but that's just me. If I change my mind about the car I'll let you know. Although I can sell it with or without the aftermarket wheels.
  3. They really do, along with another producer Lotus it seems British car makers just take the p***. Anyway I decided after reading and following the various threads on Pistonheads McLaren section for about a year now it's just not for me. Despite the black magic suspension system and it's overall totally unbelievable performance I'll stick to my original plan of the Corvette C8, but again decided not to place a deposit and wait and see what we get, although it's N/A V8 midships has me totally sold on the idea.
  4. I actually like his presentation style, compared to hello its SCHMEEEE or droning Doug I don't feel I want to punch him in the face like I do these two, but I choose to not bother watching either one again. For the sake fairness and clarity I have watched one of each of the two mentioned above and can only say who the f**k is so sad as to watch them again. Having said that one of the young guys who work for me loves Shmee so there you go maybe I'm an old fart, oh I am an old fart. Anyway it's a fair enough review I have been watching his presentation of the McLaren debacle as someone who was daft enough to actually fancy a 720s, I now realise it would be far too big a gamble for me.
  5. I had no idea, the car had been stood unused during the rain, of course these cars are built like a tank so no noise or indication of the large volume of water held within the sunroof frame was obvious but braking at the end of my road just brought it all forward. To make matters worse VW decided to situate the ECU under the passenger carpet so not only did the central tunnel electrics go it damaged the ECU too. My fault, so I would advise anyone with a sunroof to properly rod them through with a thin wire with a bit of protection on the end otherwise you could damage the pipework.
  6. Now I know we all want different things with our cars such as a sunroof but I will never buy another car with one. Here is my tale of woe regarding my experience. I ran a VW Phaeton as a University Taxi and for my long distance business travels. It had a very nice sunroof that I did use occasionally. Sometime ago (last year) we had had some very heavy rain. Unbeknown to me the channels/water outlets got blocked up with fine debris. What happened was that this water just collected in the framework, I live on a hill so when I took the car out and braked at the bottom of the hill I experienced a heavy cold shower all over me and the central console which held a lot of important electrics getting soaked and fried. The car just died on me, I have a very amusing tale of selling it on e-bay after only being on for about 10 minutes to some Eastern European guys. I guess I should have checked the blocked outlets but lets be honest do many of us actually do this?
  7. Now that's my sort of place to overnight, count me in.
  8. Just had a look on Autotrader and Approved Lexus at the black 2018 car and the Carbon model, as you say quite a bit more money than you want to spend. Both are the later models with the larger screen and both have what I considered to be essential (although I will add it was my personal preference having tried two cars more or less back to back and that is AVS) The black car does not have the trick diff TVD (again something I like) whereas the carbon model has it as standard. The black car has vented seats whereas the carbon doesn't. From a price point of view both are in the region of what I paid for mine so to me neither are overpriced. Mine was up for just under £46K and I got a deal from a main dealer for £44K so they do consider sensible offers, at the sort of mileage they are like mine it's virtually a new car.
  9. I heard somewhere or from someone December is a good time to get a deal due to it being a bit quiet.
  10. It's always worth a try, I've gone in with some quite frankly insulting offers but always politely leave my details in the hope that they have a quiet quarter in which case you can pounce.
  11. I know what you mean, strange when I first started looking there were quite a few to choose from. In the end I bought mine with the TVD, AVS because of year for £44K with 5000 miles on the clock but it was one of many from about £35-45K that were full spec and low mileage.
  12. That silver one over in Ireland was for sale when I first started looking at RCF's I think someone said it had accident damage that had been repaired badly, so not manycrs about.
  13. If anyone is interested in RAF Cosford they do hold car gatherings there below is a photo of us when we held one of the worlds largest Subaru SVX owners meeting all six of us. Mine is the silver one. If we did it on a Saturday or Sunday I'd drive up and stay at the Madeley Court Hotel, the food is excellent and if you want to splash out you can sleep in a four poster in the ancient part of the place. Like I say the museum is something else if you like anything to do with aviation. This was back in 2010
  14. Indeed quite a few people have posted some unkind comments about it, when it was free it was okay. Another venue me thinks. Not sure if anyone else agrees but I've been to a few car meets at the Cosford Aviation Museum apart from being a mind blowing place to visit there are some very good hotels in the area. We stayed in a converted monastery once.
  15. There is the Caffine and cars place (I may have got the name wrong) near Silverstone would that be central enough? A few people I know have been there and really rate the place. It's called Caffine and Machine and they now charge £5 and £10 for parking, which hasn't gone down well according to a few people I know.
  16. Yes I remember reading something about that a while ago, I think there is a production car that uses it. Just checked it was Audi with the SQ7
  17. The other thing that struck me was the fact that Lotus have been sticking superchargers on top of Toyota engines for ages. But I guess there is a higher centre of gravity plus height issues with that. Having said that why couldn't they dry sump the engine. I for one await developments with interest. I hope they still produce a good old old school N/A V8 for the RCF/GSF range just for the fact I love engines that like to be worked in an old fashioned sort of way. I've had a few turbo charged cars including a twin turbo V12 but ultimately I like the N/A V8 in my RCF more, although I also like superchargers like many owners in the USA have done to their RCF's waste of money though.
  18. Interesting, the modern approach is to have the hot V V8 turbo which is what they should do. I had reservations about the the hot V design but it looks like it has stood the test of time and I can't see anyone making a turbo V8 without this innovative clever bit of design. I thought there would be all sorts of heat soak issues but clever engineers have designed it not to have.
  19. I agree, surely it is not beyond Toyota/Lexus to develop a hot V V8 along the lines of what AMG and others have done already done.
  20. Most of the comments I have read and watched, the latest 5th Gear team tested one and it seems most people think it's not got enough Supra stuff in it. I also read somewhere that there was a recall in the USA for the Supra I admit I don't know the true facts. I think a lot of the negative comments came from the fact that the initial car in concept was fabulous looking. Then when it arrived in the flesh a general mood of disappointment was noted.
  21. I tried a 911 997 Turbo, it was what they called the 1.5 version. It was very quick indeed and the turbo engine was more or less bombproof too. This one had a problem with the convertible roof not closing down properly. The seller wouldn't do a deal despite my pointing out the roof problem. I really, really liked the car it was monstrously quick. I then arranged with my local Porsche dealer in Portsmouth to test drive one they had. Whilst at the dealership they had just taken an SL63 in as a part exchange and I asked to test drive it, I preferred the SL63 to the 911 Turbo and bought the SL63 on the spot. It might be worth just trying an SL63 as well as the 911. It's still an itch I'd like to scratch but the image always rears it's head, justified to a certain degree from personal experience too.
  22. I agree look at all the negative comments the new Supra has got, Lexus build some damn fine engines why they would bother shortcutting and going down the BMW route would be beyond me, I would definitely rule the LC F out if they did. I like revving the N/A V8 in our cars, it and I can do it all day without the worry of premature engine failure something BMW can not proclaim. I had one of the first BMW M5's to come into the UK it cost as much as a house and I loved it but have never bothered with M cars since although I tried and loved a special order M3 V8 a while ago.
  23. Rumours/press releases out at the moment about it, will the RCF/GSF go down this route too as well as the upcoming LC F.
  24. Just contributed to this as I tried one ages ago, may be worth ISF owners on here contributing.
  25. I agree it's very much down to where you live, I'm not far from the South Coast and despite having a set of winter wheels and tyres for my daily I haven't put them on for the last three winters. I avoid taking my 'best' car out if it gets really bad.
