Hi folks! Some rc-f questions…
B1RMA replied to Stuno1's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
The Boxster is a really good choice, I really enjoyed mine and as far as I have been able to conclude to date it's the best road car that can do track days well so can do both in a way other cars just can't. Mine was an over the top spec with PASM and Carbon Ceramic brakes, sport exhaust but I really enjoyed it and have thought about buying another one on quite a few occasions. Did try a 911 Turbo S soft-top but preferred the Boxster which was funny because most people's thoughts were opposite that. -

Mine isn't really a weekend car, it's just one of my vehicles that doesn't seem to do many miles. Having said that I always avoid taking it to the supermarket wherever possible as from past experience we now have what we call our shopping car. The fact that nowadays my current car just doesn't do the sort of long journeys my car did on behalf of my business, the fact that this change in my business travelling occurred just after I bought the RCF is something I've pondered on for a while. But I bought it out of my own cash so mileage claiming against the business is now pointless. -

Wow, I really must try harder, my car has averaged 2500 miles per annum since new. -

Yes the RCf is an all time record in the length of ownership for me. I still really like the car and the McLaren moment was an Epiphany for me in so many ways, plus having just done the MOT I realise I'm only averaging 1000 miles between MOT's so despite my efforts my Mini clocks up the mileage more. -

I think the M2 would have more appeal if you were to want to track your future car on a regular basis. Here's my take on it (I did have one of the first M5's to hit the UK back in the mid 80's) having sold my CL65 AMG I was looking for my next car I tried a special factory order V8 M3 it had a print out for the factory test on the engine and had a spec sheet that ran into four pages. The first thing that struck me was how the car seemed to 'shrink fit' around you, it loved to be revved and was so precise it flew. But after about 15 minutes into to test drive I had this sort of nagging feeling the car just wanted to be driven like that all the time and I couldn't relax driving it (maybe just me) When I test drove the two RCF's (one with AVS one without) my thoughts were this is a more civilised car that can do the quick stuff too but not quite as well. And that I think is where my opinion of the RCF sits still to this day. For the record I recently sold my huge vintage Fender guitar collection and was in the position to try and buy a McLaren 720s I loved everything about the car I tried and on my drive home my thoughts about the RCF was that is was a heap of s**t and I should sell it. A few days of careful thought afterwards made me decide not to buy a McLaren and keep the trusty old RCF for the time being. -

The answer to question 1 is that the RCf is not a track-day car. But if you would like to drive it really fast and not on public roads that's the way to go although insurance can be high. It's a Lexus so it won't go wrong and if it does Lexus will probably replace it soTVD is personal choice I like it myself most RCF's seem to go on for ages with no issues. -
Having seen this colour in the flesh so to speak I thinks it's fantastic, but then again I've had mine wrapped in a pretty loud scheme

Filled up at Sainsbury's today with E5 super at £1.37 per litre, soon be gone though.
-
Didn't realise that BP had stopped supplying Sainsbury's I'll have to check the E content label when I next fill up with their super unleaded. With the F cars running both types of fuel deliver cycles I work on the principle they are okay.
-
I agree that Esso fuel is very good, only problem I have is the price of my local Esso fuel. Call me tight but I just buy Sainsbury's premium and get my points on the card.
-
I've been using Sainsbury's premium petrol as V Power up the road is 20p a litre more expensive. Many years ago my Jap imports a Pajero Evo, Vehi-cross and my SVX just wouldn't run nicely on anything else other than V Power something to do with the higher octane in Japan. My track prepped RX7 was rolling roaded/mapped to run on Power. The cleaning agents in V Power Diesel are good but these days I just add Hydra Fuels Cetane booster/injector cleaner as it works out a lot cheaper

You're probably right, geography was never my strong point.

With the volcano active I was wondering if the member here Las Palmas is okay?

I’ve got my eye on the new Corvette C8 RHD or the new Lotus Emira I’ve decided to keep the RCF until they have both been around a while

Savage Geese - LC500 Ownership Review
B1RMA replied to Charliecloud's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Fair enough, I don't envy him or anything like that I just don't like him. No doubt went to private school then. The young guys who work for me are fans of him so I bite my tongue and keep quiet. I most certainly wouldn't not buy a car he was enthusiastic about because I avoid watching his content and wouldn't know. Harry's Garage is more my sort of viewing, but I find this whole influencer thing very superficial and some of them downright cringeworthy. Nice car you have there by the way. -

It does look to be a good car at last. I didn't watch the Shmee video I hate him for some reason, he has a face and mannerism that wants punching and looks to me like the sort of chap who got well and truly buggered at private school (if he went to one) but I could be wrong. Him and Dug the Manure or Doug Demuro or whatever he calls himself are on my don't watch list. -
Savage Geese - LC500 Ownership Review

For me the RCF is an all time record holder as far as length of ownership is concerned. In the past I have been a serial car changer in most cases I just got bored with them after 12 months and sold them, although my monster twin turbo V12 AMG did stay around for 14 months. I'm coming up for my third year of ownership of my RCF and plan to keep it until either the Corvette C8 RHD or the new Lotus Emira have been around a while, I never buy the first run of a new model car just in case they use me as a Guinea Pig to find the faults. Of all the reviews the one done by Chris Harris on the RCF stuck out and he is someone who's opinion I respect more than most. It's not a track type car and there are many others that can do that task better (although I just went out and bought a proper little light track day car) so in the part of the review where he takes it on the road his comment about it growing on you over time worked for me. I really like the Jekyll and Hyde characteristic of the car it can do smooth and comfortable then at the press of a couple of buttons be a hooligan. I like the later cars 2017 onwards adjustable suspension it is very good indeed. -

Mine is a 2017 and that still has the foot operated handbrake, but there was a model update after mine. not that I ever bother to use it, I know you’re supposed to. -
If it does need a re-gas check out Groupon. I had one of my vans done for £30 using them the other day. I tend to run my air-con all year it de-mists the car instantly

Savage Geese - LC500 Ownership Review
B1RMA replied to Charliecloud's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
I agree with you, there have been a lot of reviews of Lexus cars that have had me scratching my head wondering if they are actually describing the car I own. Although Savage Geese do a very well informed review of everything they test and are significantly more intelligent with their content than dim witted presenters doing it for ratings or dramatic effect. I feel an awful lot of these reviews harp on about track performance which seems to appeal to what people seem to believe is important. When I had a desire to go on track I bought a proper little track day car, that way I could go on track as many times as I wanted. It provided decently priced proper insurance cover and if I did have an off it would not ruin my much more expensive pride and joy. Although some cars do both jobs very well the Porsche Boxster I had did road and track very well indeed. On today's roads with unmarked police cars, hand held camera operatives and vans there's not a great deal of scope to exploit the power our cars produce so having a car that can do smooth comfortable cruising then at the press of a couple of buttons turn into a hooligan for those rare moments is something both the LC 500 and the RCF do perfectly well for me at least. -
E10 Petrol in September Are you switching to V Power?
B1RMA replied to TKhan430's topic in Lexus General Discussions
I think you're right about Esso, I read a report a while ago stating the same not sure if it still applies though. -
Thanks, it was a bit last minute by her indoors.

I'm afraid I can't make this now due to holiday commitments.

Do you fancy meeting up at some point in the journey from Hampshire?

Sounds good to me, and a pleasant run so count me in.
