  1. I know this has come up before because I've speculated on a possible answer myself but I can't find the thread now. I can be driving happily along and all at once there's a 'double beep' sound for no apparent reason. I thought it may be an audible speed camera warning but that certainly didn't seem to be the case today, at least not in any meaningful way. The sound did appear to correlate with speed cameras sometimes but (a) not all the time and (b) sometimes the camera may be 10m away, sometimes 500m away, sometimes some random distance away; no consistency at all. So, did anyone ever come up with a definite reason for these double beeps? It was happening quite a lot today and it's as annoying as hell.
  2. Glad it worked out for you Philip, you're very welcome.
  3. These people are a good company to deal with. If you can't find what you need on the website I'd give them a call as they're very helpful. https://www.carparts-direct.co.uk/drive-shafts
  4. Has anybody installed a dual dashcam system in a 4RX? Apparently it comes with a 6m cable that connects the front cam to the back cam. Cable route will probably be from front cam at passenger side of rear-view mirror, along the headlining to the A-pillar and down to floor level where it will run under the scuff plates, over the rear wheel arch and maybe up the C/D-pillar and to the top of the rear screen. The point is - will 6m be long enough or do I need a longer cable?
  5. ^^^^^^^ Exactly this. There's nothing magical or mystical or Lexus-specific about wheel bearings, brakes or anything like that. These are everyday jobs for thousands of garages up and down the country.
  6. ^^^^^^^^ This Your owners handbook should tell you what size and type you need or alternatively just pull each one out to see what it is and look for an LED equivalent. These are good to deal with https://www.auto-lighting.co.uk/eng_m_LED-Bulbs-1272.html
  7. Surely a Lexus dealer should be able to supply it?
  8. There is a 'sticky' post at the top of this RX forum by Colin Barber. It's a pdf file with all the information that you're looking for:
  9. Glad to hear that you've got it sorted Kate, well done. I think @ColinBarber and another person were willing to have a go at diagnosing one of the faulty ECUs, so hopefully one or the other will come forward and contact you about it. I don't claim to be an expert in faultfinding to component level but if the other guys have changed their minds, I'll make arrangements with you to get it up here and see what I can do. I think we should give it maybe a week and if we've had no volunteers by then, I'll contact you.
  10. Chances are that they're for front and rear parking sensors. These were never a factory-fit but were a dealer option, so I think those switches will be to turn them on/off.
  11. Head Up Display - it projects speed and other info onto the windscreen so that you don't have to take your eyes off the road.
  12. Cheers John, I appreciate it. It doesn't have a sun/moon roof - my first car in over 30 years to not have one. I'm not bothered though as I prefer to let climate control do its thing.
  13. I agree, HUD should be standard. We couldn't afford a Premier and I didn't want an F Sport because of the harsher ride, which wouldn't be good for my back injury, so no HUD for me - but I'll be a martyr and put up with what I've got
  14. ... I did say I'd put up some photos of our new beastie so here she is:
  15. I know what you mean and it would be good if it worked as low as 20mph. However, speaking from personal experience, nothing focuses the mind in this respect like having fallen foul of the system - twice. First was 3 points and £100 fine and that also added £100 to my insurance premiums. Second one (a few weeks later) I escaped points and fine as I was offered a speed awareness course. Consequently I'm now glancing at the speedo every couple of seconds to make sure I stick to the limit, ergo no need for the cruise control. I am now a reformed speeder, hopefully never to drop off the wagon again.
  16. Well, we got home about an hour ago after a lovely leisurely drive back down from Teeside and I have to say my mind is blown. We have enjoyed every minute of ownership of our 3RX and we genuinely considered it to be the best car we'd ever bought - but the 4RX is a whole new level It's SO comfortable, SO quiet and SO effortless to drive... it's just utterly amazing! I also have to say that we had amazing service again from David at Lexus Teeside who provided a smooth and quick transaction. He noticed that the two front tyres only had 3mm tread and while that's legal, he didn't like to send it out like that so two brand new tyres were put on before we got there and also a full tank of petrol supplied too. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you Ken, Jules too, but whoever does get it will be really pleased with it. Photos of our new beastie to follow tomorrow - I'm now going to read and inwardly digest the owners manual cover to cover
  17. You need to use Techstream to do some diagnosis of the problem and see if you, along with some of the others, are getting a fault code of U0230. You could try an ordinary OBD2 fault code reader but I'm not sure if it would pick up on it.
  18. I would have thought it very unusual to buy an alternator or a starter motor 'brand new'. These units are almost always traded on an exchange basis with the faulty one going on to be refurbished and stored back on the shelf for the whole process to start again with someone else. And let's face it, there aren't a great lot of parts to either an alternator or starter motor so getting a refurb is like it's brand new anyway.
  19. It just needs something in those text fields so I just used a . (full stop) in both of them and I'm now registered.
