  1. And they're not working properly how....? We like to be helpful but you've got to give us something to work with.
  2. Hmm... The 'TLDR' should be at the top instead of reading down to it It's probably too far for you to go but I can highly recommend Lexus Teeside, who have great people in all aspects. Hope you get it sorted Igor.
  3. If the battery is low enough it's more likely to be the starter solenoid doing what's commonly known as 'solenoid chatter'. There's enough power in the battery to energise the solenoid coil and pull in the contacts, but not enough to turn the starter motor. Battery voltage drops like a stone and the solenoid coil releases, whereupon voltage rises high enough to operate the coil again and so the cycle goes on.
  4. Before spending any money just clean up the battery terminals to begin with and see if it helps. One trick to get rid of the crud on the terminals is to pour boiling water on them, but that's not practical with a battery in the boot. Take both pos and neg clamps off and give both the clamps themselves and also the battery posts a really good scrubbing with wire wool and make sure they are tight when you reconnect them. Do the same at the other end of the earth strap where it bolts to the body. Keep us posted with your progress.
  5. I've just sent you some info by PM that may help you Jonathan.
  6. Finally, my 'spare time' and some good enough weather managed to come together today and I'm glad to say that the unit is in and working. The kit only comes with installation instructions and there's nothing to tell you how to actually work it or use it, so it's a matter of 'suck it and see' really. Obviously you'll need the Android Auto app (or Carplay if you have an iPhone) on your phone and I've just discovered that as of Android 10 and upwards, it's actually baked into the OS and will automatically open when you connect the phone to the decoder unit. If you have Android 9 or below, the Android Auto app is available to download from the Play Store and you have to open it yourself when you want it. I would have done a 'How to' video of the installation but I don't believe in reinventing the wheel if I don't have to, so at the end of this post I'll link to a YouTube video that explains it all very well. Referring to the video and the instruction sheet that comes with the unit makes it a reasonably easy job. The video shows you how to remove the trim pieces and how to get the head unit out. NB: When removing the trim, he only removes the passenger side piece of the centre console, not the driver's side. However, I spent ages trying to replace the trim piece containing the Power Button until I found out that part of it sits under the driver's side centre console piece. It sounds more complicated than it actually is but once you realise why it won't go back on it'll all fall into place. This first photo shows the head unit out of it's mounting. To wire the decoder unit in, it's simply a job of removing some of these connectors from the head unit and diverting the wires to the decoder and back. This second photo shows the decoder unit. I initially stuck it to the bulkhead with Velcro but discovered that there is plenty of room below there to just tuck the unit down below, so I did that and all the wiring is now neatly zip-tied and out of the way. A couple of wires have to be fed up from the decoder to the screen and that's about it. Test it, and if all good replace everything and then try to work out how to use it And here's the video of how to get the trim off and other stuff. You'll notice that he takes out the glove box but then finds out he didn't really need to, so I didn't bother doing that.
  7. It shouldn't really, and I speak as someone with a back injury that was bad enough to see me medically retired from work and left me in constant pain. The worst thing I find, although paradoxically it's also the best thing, is that the seat is almost infinitely variable in it's range of positions. We only bought this car a few weeks ago and I didn't need to alter the seat position from how it was in the showroom. A couple of days ago I had reason to move it but then found out that none of the three memory buttons correspond to that specific position and I'm having great difficulty in replicating it! I know I'll get there in the end but I haven't managed it yet
  8. When I was an apprentice my mentor told me, "There's only one stupid question, and that's the one you don't ask." Never be frightened of asking questions mate
  9. No worries Yes - This is the link and if you look under the main image you'll see three items under "Frequently Bought Together" so I bought all three for £188.39 See above - I bought the wiring kit together with the camera. I thought it best because it gives you control over battery voltage in parking mode I know it sounds daft but I truly can't remember. I'm on a couple of meds, one of which has a side-effect of making you forgetful. All I can say is that I used a multimeter to find a circuit that is only energised when the ignition is on - probably cig lighter or power socket fuse Yes, the rear camera gets power from the front camera The polarising filter minimises reflections from the dashboard/screen Hope that helps; just ask if you need anything else.
  10. Fire away my friend, if I can answer them I will 🙂
  11. I wouldn't even let Halfords wash the screen, let alone repair it.
  12. Near the bonnet release catch at the bottom of the trim on the driver's side.
  13. Torque is rotational force so presumably if something isn't spinning then there can't be any torque? And as Colin states above, electricity is generated when a conductor cuts through a magnetic field so again, no movement means no electricity.
  14. Just brake as normal and when you've come to a stop, press the pedal down further. There will be a single bleep and either the traction control or VSC light in the instrument binnacle will illuminate to show that Hill Start Assist is working. However you must still keep your foot on the brake pedal if I remember correctly, otherwise it releases in two seconds. It's not 'Hill Hold' just an assist so that you don't roll in the time between taking your foot off the brake and getting it on the accelerator.
  15. I think it may be possible using Techstream but can't remember for sure.
  16. Thanks for posting James but I wouldn't call it a 'software glitch'. That would suggest something wrong and repeatable, time after time. Before retirement I used to repair computers for a living and transient 'episodes' like this are quite common. There really is a reason why anyone in the IT or tech industries usually starts off with "Have you tried turning it off and back on again?"
  17. I completely agree, as do many other members of these forums. The infotainment and nav systems have long been the 'Achilles Heel' of Lexus, but all other aspects of the cars are so good that it would be cutting your nose off to spite your face if you made it into a deal-breaker and went to some other brand because of it.
  18. Are you trying to use voice commands, such as "Dial John Smith" or "Call Home"? If so, I've never managed to get that working but I just assumed that it can't cope with my strong northern accent. I don't think many people have got it working at all, irrespective of which model/variant of Lexus. I normally use the joystick to find the number I want in the phonebook, press the 'off-hook' button and the call is hands-free from then on.
  19. The weather hasn't been good enough for me to install it yet but I've just bought one of these units for my RX. It cost just under £200 including delivery and took five days to arrive from China. Here's a video of what it can do: EDIT: Just noticed that you're both Apple and I'm Android but it doesn't really matter as these devices handle both and you'll get the gist. All they are is an interface between your phone and the car's screen/steering wheel controls/audio.
  20. You are indeed, but I'm afraid I don't know what. All I can say is that I could make hands-free calls in my 2013 RX450h when I had it and still can in my current 2018 RX450h.
  21. He's the one who did mine. Doh! At least it wasn't anything serious John - and I'm sure Karl will forgive you
