My 1st Lexus, question about Speed Camera data
Herbie replied to ChrisCross's topic in New Members Area
No worries Vlad. Just be aware that that chart is what Lancashire Constabulary use - I don't know if other forces use the same or not. I know about the next penalty if it should happen again. The points stay on for four years so if it happens again during that time there's no discussion, no speed course, just straight to points and a big fine. This is why I'm now paranoid about sticking to the limit and glancing at the speedo every few seconds. -
Lexus Essential Care Servicing Discontinued?
Herbie replied to wookee's topic in Lexus General Maintenance
You'll never find one as good as the Lexus offering but the requirement to have servicing done at Lexus does spoil it somewhat. If I remember correctly, the extended warranty on my RX was £995 for two years, which I consider to be very good value when you consider the benefits: You can pay monthly to spread the cost It includes two MOTs It includes superb breakdown cover, even including full European cover, home start (some breakdown policies require you to be at least one mile from home), it also covers your spouse at no extra cost and it covers both of you even in other cars and even if that car is not a Lexus It covers MOT items if something causes it to fail Given that parts for these cars are so expensive (eg. a single headlamp unit nearly a grand) you can get your money back on the first claim. But then you have to take into account the requirement for servicing at Lexus and what that costs as well, but again you can pay monthly and lock in at today's prices. -
Please wait...for what? What is it doing while that message is up? What happens after you've waited?

We recently bought a 2018 RX450h with just under 24k on the clock and we also bought it cash plus trade-in, no finance. The cost was £32,990 but that's the retail price. If the car was a total loss I think the insurance would pay out about £28,000 if I remember correctly. If they can afford to stand that loss then they don't need gap insurance. However, I've just got 3-year gap cover from https://protect.motoreasy.com/gap-insurance for £175 on a 'Return To Invoice' basis. I don't pretend to understand it but if I'm right, the insurance pay the current market value of the car, with the gap insurance making up the difference between whatever that is and what we paid for it. Of course, it only comes into play if the car is a total loss and if I ever need to use it I may find out that it's not what I thought it was, but at £175 for 3-years cover it just seemed silly not to do it.

Problem as startup

First of all you need to see if any OBD codes have been flagged, preferably by using Techstream because that gives more info than a generic reader. I'd hazard a guess at the 12V battery beginning to fail maybe? -
My 1st Lexus, question about Speed Camera data
Herbie replied to ChrisCross's topic in New Members Area
It doesn't work like that, at least not in our area. First time was 44 in a 30, so as you'll see from the chart below, that was 3 points and a fine. Second time was 74 in a 60, so that was deemed appropriate for the SAC. -
My 1st Lexus, question about Speed Camera data

About a year ago I got 3 points and £100 fine, then a few weeks later I got caught again but this time it was a speed awareness course. As someone who has almost always driven about 5 or 6mph above the limit, I'm now trying to be a good citizen and stick to the limits but I don't mind admitting that I'm finding it very difficult; partly, I suppose, due to habit and partly because these cars are so quiet and effortless. The upshot is that I'm glancing down at the speedo about once every 5 to 10 seconds and I feel it's distracting me more and making me a potentially worse driver than I was when speeding. A very loud bleep at 2mph over the limit would be a great asset I feel. -
My 1st Lexus, question about Speed Camera data

You'll soon find that AA will provide much more than just speed cam info. As I said earlier, the on-board nav is abysmal, so AA gives access to Sygic, Waze, Google Maps etc., all of which (I think) come with speed cam alerts and are far better maps, far easier to use and kept up to date much more frequently than the Lexus offering. If there was, we wouldn't need AA - that's exactly what AA does for us. -

Plus, there's no way to add/delete so what camera info there is soon goes out of date. -
My 1st Lexus, question about Speed Camera data
Herbie replied to ChrisCross's topic in New Members Area
Welcome to the world of Lexus Chris - brilliant and beautiful cars but with abysmal infotainment/navigation systems that have long been the brand's Achilles Heel. I'm happy to stand corrected if I'm wrong but I don't think you can integrate speed camera info into the Lexus nav system. Up to last week I much preferred and always used either Sygic, Waze or Google Maps on my phone, with speed cam info being one of many reasons. Last week I installed a Carlinkit Apple Carplay/Android Auto unit in my RX so now I get to use my preferred mapping apps on the big car screen and it's great. If I'm correct and you can't 'natively' do what you want, I can highly recommend one of these units if they do one for your car. The thread below id just FYI: -
RX450h air suspension
Herbie replied to abtx's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Just to expand on that, a warranty can be claimed on nationwide, as can the MOT. However, you can't take out an extended warranty unless you have the car serviced at a Lexus dealership. Again, single services can be done nationwide when required but if you were to take out a service plan, these are usually dealer-group specific. -
They are indeed brilliant cameras; just a sad state of affairs that we need such things.

So it was a matter of 'tuning it in' albeit in a complex 'Lexus' way

RX450h air suspension
Herbie replied to abtx's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Personally I wouldn't go near one with air suspension because it's very expensive to repair (if needed) but doesn't give enough benefit to justify that expense. -
Prevention is better than cure and deterrent is the name of the game. Not pretty, but hopefully it'll make them move to an easier target:

I don't know if one of these units is available for your car but have a read of this topic that I posted recently: -
Sorry then Jeff, afraid I'm out of ideas my friend. Good luck in getting it sorted.

I take it that you haven't had the car very long? Could be a few possibilities: Maybe DAB was an optional extra that wasn't taken up by the original owner so you may need to add a DAB module You're just in a bad reception area for DAB Aerial wire broken off the shark fin Have you tried to actually 'tune it in' or scan for ensembles?

rx400h 2005 and iPhone
Herbie replied to Saphian's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
It may be 2021 now but your car is 16 years old and may have been in development for 2 or 3 years before that, so you're trying to match today's technology with something around 18 or 19 years old. Add in the development and changes to Bluetooth along the way and it gets even more complicated.
