  1. That's normal. When stationary you only have the fans pulling air through the system, but when moving forward you're sort of scooping up the air in front of the car and that helps to further cool it down. That could be a diverter flap stuck or the servo not working.
  2. That's an easy one to answer Len - you just have to be prepared to travel for the right car. We live in Preston, Lancashire, and our first RX (a 300) was bought from a trader in London. Our second and third (current) RXs, both 450h, have come from Lexus Teeside.
  3. Taking your last point first, if you have the car serviced at a Lexus dealership then the car gets a free warranty for 12-months on completion of the service. Have it serviced in 12-months time and again, you get another free 12-month warranty and so on until the car is 10 years old or reaches 100k miles. This is called the Lexus Relax warranty. There is also the Hybrid Health Check that will be carried out as part of the service or, if you want to have your servicing done elsewhere, you can get the Hybrid Health Check as a stand-alone item at Lexus for £59. As long as it successfully passes this check, Lexus warrant the high-voltage traction battery for 12-months and you can carry on doing this until the battery reaches 15 years old. The RX is indeed a very reliable beast but remember that people only come into forums like this when they have problems and need help, so if you read the forum don't be put off by all the problems you see - it's just that no one joins to say, "Hey, my car's running great". It's not unusual for RXs and their traction batteries to reach 200,000 miles and beyond, they are truly excellent machines.
  4. That's fair enough Pete but would you do me a favour please? If they come back and say no, it's not compatible, would you ask them why that is? I'd seriously be very interested in the answer to that.
  5. What makes you think that? A dashcam is a dashcam is a dashcam and all dashcams will fit in all cars. It's just a 12V accessory like a 12V air compressor for pumping up your tyres or a 12V vaccuum cleaner. Stick it on the windscreen, give it an ignition-switched 12V supply and Robert is your mother's brother, job done. If you also want a rear cam then that slightly more work but still very easy.
  6. These cars have Climate Control, which is far better than standard aircon. You just set the cabin temperature to whatever you want and the car will do what it has to (mixing hot/cold conditioned air etc) to maintain that temperature, so maybe it was that?
  7. Absolutely, categorically not
  8. Look for a branch of http://pirtek.co.uk near you where they'll either have them on the shelf or they'll be able to make them up for you.
  9. I don't know if this will help the OP but this is what I was looking for:
  10. My wife and I are both 'night owls' and somewhere between 2 to 3am is our usual bedtime now that we've retired, so it was very unusual for me to go up so early. It didn't help though, had a rubbish night
  11. It is indeed the button for the heated rear screen and heated door mirrors. It could be that the antenna wiring has been slightly damaged and there is a process for diagnosing this. I'll post it when I find it but I'm afraid it won't be tonight. Had a bit of a gruelling day so I'm off to bed, the earliest time in more than two years!
  12. I don't know about a full car but I do know two separate people (who didn't know each other but one of them was my own dad) from two separate companies who gave their respective apprentices a 'project' to do. The apprentices were given the plans and drawings to build a boat trailer. Both sets of apprentices were marked on the respective projects when completed, then my dad hooked it up to his car and drove it straight out past the gatehouse security guards, as did the other guy at the other company. I don't know about the other guy but my dad had his boat and trailer for about 15 years before it became too much for him due to ill-health.
  13. I had a brand new UX300e as a courtesy car on Friday and I wasn't impressed at all. Very small and cramped, no leg room in the back, poor boot space, big price tag and poor range. Before I knew what car I was getting I asked if there would be any mileage limit on it as we were planning on visiting family and would be doing a round trip of about 230 miles. The receptionist said that there's no mileage limit on their courtesy cars normally but, because I was getting the EV I may have to revise my plans as it only has a 135-140 mileage range and I may get there but not be able to get back. Of course, you have to put this in context of our car being an RX, which is one of the largest cars they do and I was being loaned one of the smallest cars they do so it was never going to be great for me, but even taking that into account the price and mileage range are disappointing to say the least.
  14. Just for general interest, here is the disassembly of a late model Lexus steering column. I don't think the video mentions which model or year of car it's from but what an absolute marvel of engineering!
  15. Never as a matter of routine, only if there's a problem. What about ECP or other motor factors? If you have a local branch of http://pirtek.co.uk they may sell them 'off the shelf' or they will certainly be able to make them up for you.
  16. I think the seat memory can just be overwritten so just try setting new positions.
  17. It may well be that the 12V battery is on its way to battery heaven. These cars are so full of electronics and can start showing some very weird and wonderful symptoms when it starts to fail. Check the 'standing' voltage against this chart and then put the car into READY mode and check that it's now gone up to about 14.5V, which it should do if the charging circuit is working properly. Although this chart will give you an indication of the battery state, ideally you really need to have the battery load tested because it could show alright but then drop like a stone once a load is applied.
  18. Brilliant, cheers Andy, that's one annoyance sorted then
  19. This isn't a very good video and I do intend to do a much more in-depth one but this may help explain a thing or two for now.
  20. It was done by Lexus so I would be shocked and surprised if they didn't stick to their own servicing schedule but yes, a quick call to them should put your mind at ease.
  21. The UK is just one huge rip-off. Even businesses that don't want to rip us off do so inadvertently because they're being ripped-off elsewhere, so they have to put their prices up to meet their obligations. But hey-ho, that's how we roll in the UK and it'll never change. My favourite example is the two photos below - prices may not be exact because it was quite a few years ago now but they're close enough to make the point. One is an enamel-coated, pressed steel roasting pan, bought on Preston Market for £4.95 The other is an enamel-coated, pressed steel Nissan Oil Sump Pan. OK, it has a few holes drilled in the lip and it has a few fancy decorative lines on that serve no actual purpose at all. The sump pan cost me £147.50 I can understand that the sump pan should cost more, but not that much more.
  22. If you get it serviced at Lexus it will get a 12-month Lexus Relax warranty, free of charge, on completion of the service.
  23. The 60k service - with plugs - should have been done in 2019 at 52,066. This year's service should be the 80k even though it's not done anywhere near 80k. This is because servicing is 12-months or 10k miles, whichever comes soonest. Therefore, 2014 would have been the 10k, 2015 the 20k and so on.
  24. Innotec Deblock oil is very good. As well as being a release oil it also freezes and creates micro-cracks in the rust that allows the oil to penetrate where it's needed. Going the other end of the temperature scale, a handheld induction heater is also very good.
