No it wouldn't, you'd need four cameras for that.

Better lenses, better night vision, better sensors, firmware updates etc. If I remember correctly the first dashcam I got was 720p or less than 1.0 megapixel. The one I have in my car now (as shown above) is 2K, which is about 4.0 megapixel. Viofo also do a 4K camera which is about 8.0 megapixel. As the numbers go higher the video quality gets better (over-simplification) and I doubt that there would be an easy upgrade path (or any upgrade path at all) with a factory-fitted dashcam. I know this means replacing the cam with a newer one but the principle still applies. I fully agree that Lexus chose the wrong partner for their nav systems and they are indeed clumsy and horrible. Regarding keeping the system updated - you may be able to get up-to-date maps but are they still running on clunky and outdated operating systems or does the OS get updated as well?
-
I don't know why but I'm glad they aren't. Just like with the built-in navigation it would soon be outdated and would no doubt cost a fortune to replace and involve stripping out half the roof to get to it if it went faulty. No, in the case of dashcams, I'm happy to buy and install my own.

Anybody using a recent Grom Vline 2?
Herbie posted a topic in Lexus Audio/Video/Electronics/Security
I spent a couple of hundred quid on a Carlinkit Decoder unit to get Android Auto functionality in my 2018 RX450h and I'm about ready to admit defeat with it, so I was wondering if the Grom Vline 2 actually works as it should and if it's worth the more than £500 price tag. My Carlinkit unit is basically an interface that allows you to (almost) mirror your phone screen on the car's big main screen. The apps (such as Google Maps or Waze, Amazon Music and suchlike) run on the phone but are displayed on the car screen and are controlled by using the car switches/controls. If I'm reading it correctly, the Grom unit is a self-contained device that again integrates with the car screen and controls, but doesn't actually need a phone because it runs its own Android operating system. Apps are downloaded from the Google Play Store directly into the Vline 2 and run from there. Is that correct? It seems that even the current units in stock now are only running Android 8 (Oreo) whereas my phone is running the latest OS, Android 11. Does this infer that Grom aren't very good about aftersales support or about upgrading? I know that's a silly question but I'm just bothered that I'll be throwing good money after bad. If the Vline 2 works - and works well - then I'll spend the money, but I really do not want to buy another lemon! -
It's the only one Lexus sell, nothing to do with them recommending it. There is nothing 'Lexus-specific' about a dashcam, even the ones they sell. It's just a 12V accessory like any other 12V accessory such as a TomTom satnav or a car vacuum cleaner or a 12V air compressor for inflating your tyres. It needs a 12V supply and that's it, it's compatible with all cars from Arbarth to Zephyr.

This seems to happen when the rear cam cable is run close and parallel to the DAB aerial lead. You can either find a different route or maybe add a couple of ferrite beads to prevent or fix it.

RX450h air suspension
Herbie replied to abtx's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
As far as I'm aware none of the 4RX variants have air suspension at all. -
I've got one of these Viofo A129 Dual Camera sets (links to Amazon page illustrated below) and they're superb. Easy to fit DIY (or if you don't want to DIY then any auto-electrician will fit), very small and unobtrusive, with great, clear recordings both day and night. Each camera manufacturer will recommend their own microSD cards but these Samsung Pro Endurance cards are amongst the best out there, if not the best and have an excellent reputation.

Ah right. What my favourite band, Led Zeppelin, would call a 'Communication Breakdown'

Not quite sure how or why you expect them to contact you when you haven't even got the car yet. They could have had a few people like you who never went back to them because the new car purchase fell through or was delayed. You've asked for a price and they gave you one, now it's up to you to go back to them when you have the car and can make a definitive booking to get it done.

Screen black after battery change
Herbie replied to rayaans's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Just clutching at straws with a completely wild guess here but... I know that the screen has multiple uses and is not just associated with the radio but I love music and always have the radio (or other media) playing music whenever I'm in the car, so much so that I literally never turn off the sound system/radio at all. I'm just wondering if you, Rayann, may be the same and if it could be some sort of 'inrush current' or voltage spike issue and that the radio/sound should be turned off before replacing the battery? -
Wow, are you sure? It would be extremely unusual for a hybrid battery to give up the ghost after just two years. I could see it happening to the 12V battery but not the hybrid battery; they usually last 10 years or more. If it really is the high voltage hybrid battery then I would imagine all settings will be lost. With the 12V battery they can use a 'battery saver' to keep the settings in memory.

Haynes Manual worth it ?
Herbie replied to Srx400h's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
I discovered why the link didn't work for me - my adblocker stopped three different ad sites from loading and obviously stopped the page from loading too. Anyway, I made adjustments and found this: -
My 2013 RX450h Advance and my 2018 RX450h Luxury will not allow the tailgate to open without unlocking all doors at the same time. I can stand with my finger on the 'tailgate open' button for hours but nothing happens until I press the 'unlock' button, at which point all locks operate and I can then press the 'tailgate open' button and it does.

Hi Shahid - that link doesn't work and just brings me right back to this page, but I've PM'd you with something that may help you. -
That link isn't working but there's no need to spend a lot of money. Someone in the RX forum got a cheap Chinese camera for about a tenner and did a full write-up about changing it and it worked a treat. This is just one of many available on Amazon but prices seem to have gone up a bit (unsurprisingly).

Windscreen aerial ?
Herbie replied to Charliecloud's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
33 years ago DAB hadn't even been invented but yes, the same principle applies. My 2018 RX has an integrated DAB aerial but some don't. I have no idea why. -
Windscreen aerial ?
Herbie replied to Charliecloud's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
I would be extremely surprised if there was anything 'Lexus-specific' about a DAB windscreen aerial so just have a look at some of these videos: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+fit+dab+aerial+to+car -
If it's only dripping when the tailgate is open it's probably just water lurking in the seal nooks and crannies rather than an actual leak. I suppose the best way to see what's going on is to have someone in the back with a torch while you (or someone else) blasts the tailgate from outside with a pressure washer.

You may just have been lucky, I don't know, but the info I quoted above was Lexus' own advice.
