Sat Nav screen upgrade
Herbie replied to agent_dess's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I agree that it should really be up to date (or at least, more than it currently is) but I haven't come across any app that doesn't like 8.1. Everything I've got on my Vline seems to work perfectly, although I do admit that I'm still exploring and getting used to it and there are areas of it that I haven't even begun to use yet. -
RX400H | ISC reset?
Herbie replied to chatmandu's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
I don't know what "ISC" is but usually all that needs to be reset is the sunroof, the windows and maybe the tailgate. I think for the windows, you have to go to each door in turn and using the switch put the window all the way down, then all the way back up and hold it for a few seconds in the up position. I've never had to do it so I'm working from a vague memory of seeing it on this forum sometime in the past and I may well be wrong, so probably best to wait for someone else who knows what they're doing. EDIT - found this https://www.justanswer.com/lexus/7ulew-lexus-rx400h-2006-lexus-rx400h-dead-12v-battery.html and it details the reset procedure. -

I agree, but the good ones are very rare and I just would never take the chance with my pride and joy. -
Grom Vline 2 - First impressions and a quick demo
Herbie replied to Herbie's topic in Lexus Audio/Video/Electronics/Security
Just as a matter of interest Exdee, why do you use Android Auto on the Vline? As I understand it, AA is basically an app that allows other apps (such as Waze, Google Maps etc., etc) to run inside it, for want of a better term. The Vline is a self-contained Android Computer that allows you to download and run almost any app directly from the Vline itself, which sort of makes AA a bit redundant. The reason I ask is that I'm running everything from the Vline and not using AA, but I'm wondering if there's a 'right or wrong' way of doing it. Using AA or not using AA gets us to the same end goal, but is one way 'better' than the other? Is one way right and the other wrong? Or does it not matter and it just boils down to personal taste/preference? -
Head unit upgrade for 2021 model year?
Herbie replied to aalmos's topic in Lexus LC500 / LC500h Club
I must admit that after initially thinking that the Carlinkit Decoder I got was working well, it soon went to pot and was, in fact, absolute rubbish. So bad that I ripped it out in disgust and spent £510 on a Grom Vline 2, which, up to now, has been brilliant. Have a look at the recent posting I made, below. Looking at Darren's post above it looks like I'm wrong, but I thought the sole distributor for the UK was Carputer Shop in Ashby-de-la-Zouch https://gromaudio.co.uk/ That's where I got mine from and found them to be great to deal with. -
As Colin says above, yes. In fact, I'm sure it's a sunroof drain pipe that goes down in that corner. There's an entire topic that someone started a while ago that covers this particular problem with lots of photos as well but the search facility of these forums is terrible and I can't find it now. EDIT - just to say that although the search facility really is abysmal, this time I never would have found it because what I was looking for is on one of the American forums: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-2nd-gen-2004-2009/648923-sunroof-moonroof-leak-2.html

Grom Vline 2 - First impressions and a quick demo
Herbie replied to Herbie's topic in Lexus Audio/Video/Electronics/Security
Cheers mate Due to not feeling too good recently (definitely not Covid as all tests negative) I've not had chance to explore or play with it as much as I would have liked, so I'm afraid I can't give you those answers yet, except to say that yes, the 'snap-to' feature does work - you'll see it in the video above when you get a red box around the icon. I'll demonstrate it better as soon as I can, along with answers to the other things. -
There's an old saying "Buy cheap, buy twice" and it's true. I couldn't afford, or justify, spending just over £500 on a Grom Vline 2 so I bought a 'Carlinkit Decoder' for £200 and never actually got it working properly; problem after problem until I just gave up with it. I've since got a Grom Vline 2 which is what I should have done in the first place. I've not had it long but up to now, I think it's great. You can run Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on it but you don't have to do that if you don't want to. It's basically an Android tablet and you can run almost any app from the Play Store directly on it, without the need for ACP/AA. Have a look at this post I did a few days ago:

Have a look in the front passenger footwell on the left-hand side, under the carpet and behind the panel. There's a bundle of wires and connectors in that area but also a drain pipe that can somehow become dislodged. If it has been dislodged then there's a distinct possibility of corroded/dirty/wet connections causing all sorts of weird problems.

They work very well John, no problem at all unless it's a big puncture but for your average nail/screw-type punctures it's fine. Before getting our first hybrid I'd run LPG for more than 17 years and the LPG tanks were always mounted in the spare wheel well, therefore no spare could be carried. The gunk got me out of the poo a couple of times. There's a myth that the gunk somehow ruins something but that is just a myth, probably invented by lazy tyre fitters who don't want to get their hands dirty and spend the time cleaning it off.
-
Given that it's been designed to avoid having a spare tyre, does it not also lack a space to keep one in? It might be a nice idea to have one, until you see how much space it takes up in the boot if there's nowhere else to store it.
-
Yes, but my point is that Waze, Sygic, Google Maps and more all have that facility within their navigation/mapping software, which is where that sort of information would normally be found, making it superfluous to include it in a camera. Being able to give you speed camera/speed limit warnings is not the primary reason for people to buy a dashcam.

Herbie replied to Rachellexus's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
It's not unusual for an RX400h to go to 200,000 miles and beyond, even 250,000, so the question you have to ask yourself is - if it was running well, would it do everything I need it to do? And, how much would I have to spend to get a different car of equal size/comfort/whatever? I suppose at this stage, all you can do is to wait and see what they say is the problem and how much they reckon it'll cost to put right. Sorry, I used to be a very indecisive person but I'm not so sure now -
Just happened to see this bit of info today that says EV chargers are to be separately metered from the domestic supply.

May just be one of those weird coincidences in life where your actual switch in the door has gone faulty. I'd be inclined to take it out, clean it up and see what that does.
