  1. OBD2 is an industry standard so any code reader/scanner from eBay for about £20 should do the job. If you have a laptop then a miniVCI cable from eBay will come with a copy of Techstream, which is the diagnostic software that Toyota/Lexus techs use in the dealer workshops. Of course, this is a pirated copy so it's a matter for your own conscience to use it or not but you can download the same software free of charge from Toyota/Lexus officially and pay for a block of time to use it. Either way, you'll still need the cable anyway.
  2. Or better still, get the Faraday pouches but also invest in a good steering lock because prevention is better than cure. Have a look at this topic:
  3. Glad you got it sorted Paul, but just for future reference, it's very easy to do. When you plug the USB drive in it should automatically open up file explorer (if not, just open it manually). Right-click on the USB drive which opens a context menu and then left-click on Format, then choose which file system you want. This works with almost any version of Windows.
  4. Have a look at the Lexus official eBay store here
  5. Yep, the option is there in Techstream.
  6. Thanks for the info John but like I said above, my phone does a far better job than the Lexus nav ever could so I'll be sticking with that 😉
  7. Way overpriced in my opinion. The video below is by a guy who's done dozens and dozens of dashcam reviews (as well as other tech) and this is what he decided on for use in his own car (there's also a single one for about £80). Easy DIY in about 15 minutes for the front (rear takes a bit longer) or any auto-electrician will do both for about £50.
  8. This is one very big advantage to using Waze. The users themselves can report problems such as accidents, potholes, queues or whatever in real time as you'll see from the picture below - someone reported a heavy traffic jam just two minutes ago and it's already live for others to see:
  9. Here they are from the same Lexus eBay store I linked to earlier
  10. They do indeed make mats but they are not cheap - but then again, what ever is from Lexus? They do a very good, heavy-duty rubber mat set for somewhere around £110. Luckily, the previous owner of our car had already bought them so we got them with the car, but they're well worth the money. Have a look here at their official eBay store
  11. Maybe those who actually like the mouse pointer are either left-handed or ambidextrous but for me, a 61-year old severely right-handed person, the mouse pointer flies from one end of the screen to the other and trying to get it to the miniscule square of a letter or number that I want is damn-near impossible. Even if I could use it alright though, the system will still not allow full postcode entry and other menu items are counter-intuitive. A stand-alone nav like a TomTom or Garmin gently leads you through the process and you don't even need to read the instruction manual because they are intuitive, whereas the Lexus system puts so many blocks in your way. Having said that though, I don't even use my TomTom these days because I'm so chuffed with the combination of What 3 Words and Waze on my phone that I doubt I'll use anything else now.
  12. Unless I'm missing something, the only way to enter a destination or postcode is by using the mouse thingy, which is very unwieldy and clunky. I can have my phone mounted, open up What 3 Words / Waze, enter my destination and have the first couple of miles done by the time I've faffed about with the Lexus nav. I really struggle to understand why people bother, but if you really want to then it may be worth a look here, which at least lists the most current part number and other stuff if you look around the site: https://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/Shop/Index
  13. I don't think anyone does exchanges on batteries anymore do they? Alternators and starter motors, but not batteries.
  14. Here's a couple of Google results for you: Self Discharge rates 1 Self Discharge rates 2
  15. Good that you did an HPI check but that link now shows 404 Page Not Found. Can you put the reg number up for info? EDIT: forget that Andrew, it's now alright and I can see the plate which looks like YS08 DLA possibly?
  16. No worries Matthew, I like to help if I can. Here's the rest of the ML chart just for completeness:
  17. I think this may be it but if not then I'm sorry Matthew, I really can't find anything else
  18. Have a look at this workshop manual HERE
  19. I think that it is indeed true but I'd be inclined to pay it as your regular mechanic won't have anything to check hybrid systems. Either that or get yourself an OBDII dongle so that you could use the HybridCheck app on your phone.
  20. So have I but they are prone to failure after a while (just look at all the reviews of the various ones on Amazon), hence the steering lock - belt and braces 😉
  21. I did look but those diagrams that I've already posted are the only ones in the RX400h factory workshop manual.
  22. Lexus fair just as badly as any other manufacturer, which is why I use a nice big deterrent in the form of a Stoplock Pro Elite steering lock. In tests and reviews, it took more than 5 minutes to defeat the lock so my hope is that the scrotes will see it and decide that it's not worth the hassle and move to an easier target somewhere else. And it does seem to work that way:
  23. I remembered seeing this on a different thread a few days ago:
  24. That's not correct. All batteries, no matter what their chemistry, will self-discharge over time. And I've never heard of a battery drain - either self-discharge or parasitic - cause splits and fires. A short circuit would do that but not a drain of the magnitude we're talking of here.
