  1. Yes, of course it's worth it. The breakdown cover alone would be over £200 for two years so that takes the warranty itself down to £595 or less. If you have LED headlights and one fails it'll be hundreds to replace (over £800 for one sealed unit on my RX450h), so yes, well worth it. Once the car gets to 9 or 10 years old I don't think I'd bother anymore and just get parts from a breakers yard.
  2. Not too bad but from other posts on these forums it seems Lexus dealers ONLY do the cambelt. They don't change the idler/tensioner, they don't change the water pump and they don't change the coolant - if you ask for a cambelt change then that is literally what you get. Did you ask for a coolant change and/or water pump change? If so then that is indeed a good price. I got cambelt, idler/tensioner, water pump and coolant changed on my RX300 for about £460 at my local trusted indy place.
  3. I hope you mean the 12V battery? The 'main' battery in a hybrid is the 288V traction battery that is at the heart of the hybrid system and it would be very unusual for it to fail in such a short time.

  5. It's not. It only has small pieces of sandpaper for use by hand so I don't think it'll do as good a job as the 3M or other kits meant for use with drills.

  7. Did you only look at the plug/socket? It could be the inner workings of the sensor (springs and contacts) so you really need to take the cover off and check continuity and/or resistance with a multimeter before you can rule the sensor out.
  8. I think that's because the translate service is Google's baby so they may not licence it to Microsoft or others. Glad you got it sorted in the end though.
  9. A quick googling brought up the answer. Using Chrome, right-click anywhere on the page and a context menu pops up with one of the choices being 'Translate to English' as you'll see in the screenshot below.

Decent job Brian but you should really find a better way of powering it because that plug could easily work its way out of contact or even drop out altogether as you go over bumps in the road and the car gets jostled about a bit. Even something plugged into the socket at floor level in the storage area below the centre console in the front of ours has wiggled out a bit and lost contact with the socket centre pin and that socket isn't facing downwards like the one in the boot. You may find that one day you need the footage from the camera but it hasn't been recording because the plug isn't making good contact and the camera has no power.

  15. You've been lucky with that one, but the average life is usually somewhere around 4 - 6 years.
  16. It doesn't mean that they can only do that and nothing else, just that they can handle deep discharge whereas others can't, but you've got yourself sorted for a decent price anyway, so well done.
  17. Yes, the yellowing is caused by oxidation of the outer layer of the plastic lens, so you basically sand the oxidation off and then seal with UV-resistant top coat.

  19. Yep, you are Lee. 12V is 12V is 12V and the type of battery chemistry or Ah rating won't affect the hybrid side at all, or at least not in the context that you're thinking. A brand new battery should be fully charged or not far off, so it shouldn't take much to bring it up to full and keep it that way. The combustion engine will still fire up to keep it charged up as and when it needs to, but it won't be any more or any less frequent just because you put a larger capacity battery in the car. There will be a lower voltage threshold that will trigger the engine to come on and a higher voltage threshold when the engine will turn off and those values won't change depending on the capacity of the 12V battery.

  22. It's not the Techstream software that's the problem but the drivers for the miniVCI cable, but you need the cable if you want to use Techstream - legitimately or otherwise.
  23. There are plenty of Youtube videos on fault-finding and searching for parasitic drains but you do need the tools and test gear. If you haven't already got one, a multimeter is an absolute must and you can get cheap ones for under a tenner, very decent ones for under £30. You could even go for something like a combined multimeter and clamp ammeter such as this one from Amazon Here's the link to a whole bunch of Youtube videos
