When you switch on the AC it puts an extra load on the engine and would slow it down unless the system compensates for it by way of altering the fuelling, which is why you use slightly more petrol with AC on. The MAF sensor obviously plays a huge role in the fuelling of the engine, which explains the correlation between the two things. The main problem you've got is that the code you're seeing relates to the malfunction of a circuit associated with the sensor rather than the sensor itself. Surprisingly, I can't seem to find any mention of that particular code in the workshop manual, only P0101 rather than P010A. I've got to go out now but I'll get the wiring diagrams up for you later. Meanwhile, here's how to test the MAF sensor itself, although it probably won't do any good if you haven't got the test gear:

Driving wins every time. My wife and I have driven from home in Preston, Lancashire, to and around Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and lots of other places too. We never have any hotels booked in advance so we can just please ourselves where we go and how long we stay - been doing it since 1991 and never had to spend a night in the car because we failed to get a hotel One of the more unusual hotels we've stayed in is Hotel Jested in the Czech town of Liberec - it's at the top of a mountain in a television transmission tower!

Faulty bulb? Switch bulbs round and see if the fault moves to the right side and also see if the bulb now in the left exhibits the same symptoms. Bulb not secure in holder? Bulb holder faulty? -

Take one of the existing speakers out and, using a multimeter set on a low Ohms range (200 or less - depends what your individual meter ranges are), test the DC resistance of the speaker. DC resistance isn't the exact equivalent of impedance but it's a close enough approximation. A DC resistance of, say, 3.6 ohms means that the speaker has a 4 ohm impedance; anything from 7.0 ohms would mean an 8 ohm impedance. Once you know the impedance (it may even be marked on the speaker) then almost any speaker that will physically fit will do. I've no idea how you'd find out the power output of the amp and physical speaker size isn't a brilliant indication of how much power it can handle, but if you find that two speakers will physically fit, just get the one with the higher power rating. -
Hi Ken and welcome to the club. Before we got our current RX450h we had a 2005 RX300 for a couple of years so I know you'll enjoy your new car - we need to see pictures when you can get them 🙂 I'm not really sure why there's a 'new members area' because you'll get more response from the dedicated RX forum so I'd recommend you post in there next time you start a topic. Keys - this guy on eBay will supply new blank keys and cut them for you from the key number if you have it or just from a photo of your existing key blade. The key cases are empty so you just take the electronics out of your existing key and transfer the unit to the new key. If you already have a trusted garage or mechanic there's no need to look for a specialist. Yes it's a Lexus, but it's still just 'a car' and there's nothing unusual about it that any good mechanic couldn't tackle. All work on our RX300 (apart from the LPG conversion) was done by my usual garage, including timing belt and water pump, without any problems whatsoever. Finally, just enjoy

Check that the battery cooling fans are working and that the vents and airways aren't blocked up with fluff, dust or something else, and I don't just mean a quick look but actually get the vent grilles off and clean any filters.

I'll be honest, I wouldn't take my own car there - but that's only because I value 'proper' training. When I left school I was taken on as an apprentice electrician at a local factory. The apprenticeship was four years long and I came out of it fully qualified to City & Guilds standard. I have various friends from school who also went into apprenticeships, including motor mechanics, plumbers, carpenters etc., and all apprenticeships had a four-year duration. My main concern with places like Halfords, and KwikFit is that I don't think their staff are trained to anywhere near such standards and have merely attended in-house training courses for a couple of weeks. I know that they aren't doing anywhere near as complicated a job or such a range of jobs that a fully-qualified mechanic would do and that a two-week training course may well suffice, but it's horses for courses - if it's a job I can't do myself then it's my trusted mechanic, and if he can't do it then I go to a specialist. Now that really does worry me! -

It's a long time since I needed to know things like this so I'm not 100% sure but I seem to remember that different refrigerant gasses do indeed have different nozzles, so in that respect they are correct. However, the oils that are added to the gas are sold in cans and poured manually into an oil tank in the machine (photo below), so it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that someone makes a mistake and puts the wrong oil in, which is why, ideally, they should have a dedicated machine for each oil or a really good flushing routine between jobs. Having said all that, we have to trust people to know what they're doing so although there is a possibility of things going wrong, chances are that they won't. -
Which dealership? It's possible that the person you spoke to doesn't know about the Gold Member discount, so have a look in the relevant section of this website to see if your dealer is listed as taking part in the scheme and if they are, press them about it. Having said that, it's £59 on the Lexus website but I don't know if that's up to date or not. When you say: I'm assuming that you left a '0' off that and meant to say 120GB - Windows 7 itself takes 16 to 20GB. Personally I would never go with anything less than 240GB as the system/boot drive and there's a very decent one here for £27.06: https://www.ebuyer.com/790251-kingston-a400-240gb-ssd-ebuyer-com-sa400s37-240g If you really do want something smaller then you can get the 128GB version for £18.83 Windows 7 reaches end-of-life in about 7 months time so I'd take this opportunity to buy a copy of Windows 10 Pro for £19.99 from here: https://softwaregeeks.co.uk/product-category/windows-10/ Given that you'll be adding this SSD into the machine as an extra drive you'll need a SATA data cable (I don't think they come with the drive) and maybe also a Molex to SATA power cable too. Just install the operating system on the SSD then make sure it and/or whatever SATA port it's plugged into is designated as the boot drive in BIOS/UEFI and Robert is your mother's brother.

You're probably right but I wouldn't give them the benefit of the doubt. And it's not just about putting the wrong gas (more properly, lubricant) in but about cross-contamination, so they need to use dedicated machines and hoses for each lubricant. Anybody can make mistakes but from what I've read and from personal experiences of places like those, I'd think their working practices probably leave them more likely to make mistakes than a specialist aircon place. -
Unless you have an extended warranty with Lexus and the subsequent requirement to have services carried out there too, why would you even go to Lexus for a 'normal' service anyway? Get Lexus to do the hybrid health check (about £60) and any trusted mechanic or garage can do the rest - this is just everyday bread and butter work for any mechanic.

As I said in post No.4 above, just 1% contamination of PAG oil can damage the compressor motor, so yes, a whole regas would, without doubt, cause major problems. That's good, you may be safe then but you do need to know exactly what they used because the problems usually don't become apparent for a while as the conductive PAG oil breaks down the winding insulation and causes short-circuits - and you may be out of warranty by then. -
Battery warning light

Check tightness and cleanliness of battery connections, the 'other ends' of the connections, the alternator connections and also the engine earth strap. In fact, even if you don't see any signs of corrosion it's still a good idea to take each connection off in turn and use some emery paper to clean up the washers, nuts and bolts before reconnecting things again. There are some heavy currents flowing in these cables and just a small amount of dirt and/or corrosion can cause problems. Once all connections are clean and tight, check 'standing' battery voltage against the chart below and also check charging voltage when the engine is running (should be about 14.2 to 14.7). If the voltages are out or the cleaning/tightening of connections didn't help, it could indicate a fault with the voltage regulator or diode pack in the alternator. EDIT: Doh!! Three hours after posting this I've realised that I forgot to include the battery voltage chart earlier, so here it is: -

They can't test for "level" as such but can test for correct pressures using a manifold gauge set, although I'd say it's a pointless exercise at the moment. May be worth doing in a month or so, or at least looking for the dye.
