  1. In that case you're overthinking it as anything bad will already have happened. Just do it. You may find that the windows need resetting or that the radio has lost its presets but you won't have any problems with the immobiliser.
  2. This is the diagram that I've got but is probably also the one you have too:
  3. Premium petrol is for people with too much money to waste or for engines that are specifically tuned to make use of it. None of my cars have ever fallen into that category so I only use supermarket fuel (or others if I'm somewhere else when I need it) and have run some of them up to 150k without any problems.
  4. Never, ever use Rad Seal or other sealants. Yes, it may block up a leak, which is good, but some of the waterways around the engine can be very small bore and the sealant also does a good job of sealing those too, which is very bad. You need to do things like this on level ground, doing it on a slope is only going to give you headaches. I think there's also a drain plug on the engine block somewhere but can't look at the workshop manual for you until later this afternoon.
  5. Possibly, but more likely to be the 12V battery because that DTC is generated if battery voltage drops below 9V.
  6. I always did my own repairs until a back injury made it impossible for me ☹️
  7. As can any trusted and reputable garage/mechanic.
  8. I don't know Alan, to be honest. I was just working on the premise that whenever my garden hose springs a leak at a connector I just cut an inch off the pipe and everything's good again 🙂
  9. Just cut a bit off the end of the pipe so that you're pushing the connectors into 'fresh' pipe, which will give it a tighter grip.
  10. Obviously better to get something that's right from the off but when I stupidly did this to my RX300 a couple of years ago it was £150 to get it sorted and the guy did a brilliant job:
  11. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happened. Hope you find what you want Eddy
  12. I don't know if you're looking at Lexus dealers or independent dealers, but I'd imagine that the best examples will be from Lexus themselves, through their approved scheme. I certainly had no trouble getting my perfect example from Lexus Teeside.
  13. I'm not sure anything has changed. As far as I know, all series 3 RXs have the same engine, from 2009 to the introduction of series 4 in 2015. I think they've made a mistake in giving Ian a quote of £395 - but I may well be wrong.
  14. Believe it or not, I can see why it takes 11 hours! According to the workshop manual, the whole engine, hybrid transaxle and a whole host of other stuff has to be removed! Looking at the screenshot below, Step No. 99 is to lift out the engine and transaxle assembly. Given that, I think they maybe made a mistake in giving Ian a price of £395.
  15. Are you sure you want it permanently powered and not switched with the ignition? I would normally say P/Outlet No.1 but I think it's ignition switched. Best way to check/find one is to use a multimeter to check for voltage when ignition is off - if you really need it permanently powered.
  16. The problem is that there are SO many variables you just cannot make any meaningful comparisons. I know that one of the things that puts our price up is the need for both my wife and I to have business cover. Hopefully that requirement should cease in about 12 to 18 months, but the cynic in me says that I still won't see any reduction in premiums!
  17. Excellent - so what work was actually done in the end?
  18. Tyre wear, not too sure. Currently got about 15,000 miles on my Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 2 tyres and plenty of tread left. Pad wear is normal. If you're driving your hybrid correctly most of the braking is done regeneratively, with the hydraulic brakes only coming into play when you've almost stopped or when the traction battery is full and can accept no more charge.
  19. I have a workshop manual for the RX300 if you want it.
  20. The AFS won't operate below a certain speed (which if I remember correctly is about 10mph but I could be wrong) so that doesn't mean a lot I'm afraid.
  21. Yes, it will drive normally until it runs out of petrol or the driver stalls it, but it won't restart again without the key.
  22. That's what I do when the screen is iced up, but I leave my Stoplock steering wheel lock in place while I'm in the house
