  1. But they would never be seen in strong daylight so again, I can't see the point.
  2. I think sidelights should be alright. The car wouldn't fail an MOT if it has LED sidelights even if it originally left the factory with incandescent bulbs. The regulations are more concerned with LED bulbs being used in headlight housings meant for halogen or other bulb types when there's a risk of dazzling other drivers due to misalignment of the beams. I don't think a sidelight bulb carries such a risk.
  3. To be fair, hardly any. DRLs should go off (or at the very least go dim) when side/tail lights are switched on. Some cars have automatic lights that come on as the ambient light level falls but even if not, we all know that lights should be switched on when the streetlights come on so, DRLs fitted or not, people should still be making that reach for the light switch as the streetlights and/or other vehicle lights come on around them and, as far as I can see, most do.
  4. I have to ask the question - what would be the use of DRLs at the back? They were introduced as a way of making oncoming vehicles more noticeable (just like motorbikes having to use headlights) during daylight hours (even in strong sunlight) and they do a good job of that. However, DRLs at the back would just look like brake lights permanently on so I really don't see the point?
  5. I've not watched this myself yet but a quick search on Youtube came up with this video, which is just over 6 minutes long: Should you be so inclined, this video is 35 minutes long and shows how to measure the fluid level in a Toy/Lex without a dipstick:
  6. Beautiful car - and the frustration of not being able to drive it must be horrendous! I had a triple bypass five years ago and the DVLA said four weeks; Blackpool Victoria Hospital in general said six weeks, but my particular surgeon said eight weeks!
  7. So it's a more sophisticated modern equivalent of taking a magnet with you like I used to do many, many moons ago 😊 I've just looked up Paint Detective Les and at almost £200 I think I'll stick to my magnet (see what I did there - 'stick' to my magnet... I'll get me coat )
  8. That is a myth spread by lazy tyre fitters. Up to getting this RX450h I've been running LPG cars for the last 15 years with the gas tank in the spare wheel well, ergo no spare wheel. I needed to use the goo on one occasion but then went to my usual trusted mechanic for the puncture repair instead of places like KwikFit, ATS et al and he did it without any problems at all. It took a little time to clean the rim but it is eminently doable.
  9. Some will be better than others but you've also got to be either (a) willing to travel long distances and/or (b) possibly be a little more realistic in your expectations. Even an 09 is now 10 years old and there aren't many 10 year old cars that haven't got some dings and/or paintwork done. No offence meant Eddy but 'paint thickness pen'? I don't even know what one is, let alone take it to a 10 year old car.
  10. You could well be right Richard because, like you, I can't remember what went on last week! Anyway, they're both the same bodyshell to all intents and purposes (AFAIK) so it doesn't matter.
  11. Try searching this forum because I remember some poor bloke had to strip out the whole interior of the car, seats and carpets, to sort out his leak and dry the carpets out, and he did a great writeup about it. I know it was an RX300 but can't remember who it was.
  12. Not sure the guy will be that bothered now Brian, given that the post you're replying to is 10 years old 😉
  13. The self-discharge rate when it's just standing on the shelf is very low, so I very much doubt it would have been discharged to any noticeable degree, and certainly not to any detrimental level. It can indeed take quite a while for a battery to move through the supply chain from factory to retail but they suffer no harm during this time and I would have taken it no problem, trust with ECP intact.
  14. In a word, no, I've never had Techstream ask me for a reconfigure code and I wouldn't know where to look for one. I just installed Techstream, plugged the laptop into the car and off it goes, access to all menus.
  15. Is the parking place lit? If so, one of these solar chargers will trickle-charge the battery from artificial light - not quite as well as natural sunlight but they do work underground. I always carry one of these jump start battery packs in the glove box 'just in case' so it may be prudent for you to have one to hand when the time comes.
  16. You may be lucky and find a dealer that will let it go to Lexus first but I doubt it. The RAC, the AA and other places do a pre-purchase inspection so you could have one of those done and then if you do buy it, take it to Lexus for a hybrid health check (about £60).
  17. Quite possibly radio interference - move the car a few feet or even a house or two away and see if it works then.
  18. £162 labour????? That is utterly ridiculous, it can't possibly take more than a few minutes!
  19. I've never heard of a D Rubber either and I had an RX300 before my current RX450h.
  20. Yours has two notches with the word HOT between them. The lowest notch indicates that fluid level is low and needs topping up, the highest notch is the 'full' mark. Technically as long as the fluid is between the two notches it's OK, but I've always worked on the fluid being up to the top notch, but not above it because you don't want to overfill it.
  21. To check the level you need the car at normal operating temperature, then park up and put the handbrake on. Keeping your foot on the footbrake, move the gear selector from P, through every gear position to the bottom and back to P again, with a slight pause at each position for the gear change to happen. With the engine still running pull the dipstick and read the level. Some dipsticks have an H and an L on one side so if yours is like that, make sure to read the level from that side as the other side may give a false impression. And hold the dipstick level to read it, not up or down.
  22. I usually get about 390 to 400ish out of a tankful so if you've done 300 then yes, it'll start dropping quite quickly now.
  23. Sorry Stuart, I can't say with certainty because I don't have an IS200. On the RX the windows may fail to operate properly so the procedure is to go round each door and press the down switch until the window is fully down then hold for 10 seconds, then do the same for window up, after which they should all work correctly from the main switch panel in the drivers door. I've never heard of any car, young or old, Lexus or Vauxhall or whatever, having trouble with the immobiliser. Radios yes, windows yes, sunroof yes, but never immobiliser so if it was me I'd just change the battery. If you're still worried, I know you said that you haven't got a second battery but have you got a battery charger? Or a second car with jump leads?
