I don't know if it's illegal but it's certainly irresponsible. The cat is there to get rid of the dangerous, noxious fumes that are harmful to humans and to the environment in general, so if you have kids and want their future to be greener than ours then I think you know you should get it replaced soon as. Having said that, hybrid cars are not subject to emissions testing in the MOT, so make of that what you will. Just yesterday someone else on here posted that their cat had been nicked too and mentioned a device called a 'Catloc' (Linky) so may be worth fitting one of these when you have the cat replaced.

No worries mate but do check with the dealer first. I'm only a Lexus owner like most of us in here and I don't work for them, so may be wrong.

12v battery problem hopefully
Herbie replied to Shada's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I doubt you'll get anywhere with that, but good on you for trying. It's a matter of economics I expect. A hybrid car requires very little current to get it going (just over 15A for my RX450h as opposed to over 300A for a traditional starter motor) so they don't have to put a big battery in and can save loads of money. Lexus, quite rightly in my humble opinion, will assume that people buy cars to use them rather than having them parked up for long periods of time. If you're worried about getting a flat battery and your car lives in the open as opposed to being garaged, you may want to buy a solar panel trickle charger like this one here for example. If that's not viable due to the car being garaged, maybe a jump start battery pack is more appropriate, like this one here. Of course, all this begs one underlying question (and not just to you personally but to anyone who doesn't use their car on a regular basis) - why would you even buy a hybrid car in the first place? The whole ethos behind a hybrid is built around batteries and we all know that any and every battery will self-discharge over time and has to be kept topped up, so why buy a car that needs regular use to just leave it sitting around? -
I'm very intrigued by this bracket you've made Barry so can we see some photos please? I used to use a TomTom but although I've still got it I never use it these days, preferring to use Waze or Google Maps on my phone, which I place in a CD-slot mounted holder. The TomTom used to sit bottom right of the windscreen on a sucker mount that never fell off, not even during a four-week, 4,239-mile trip around Europe, sometimes on atrocious roads and in sweltering heat. Given that, and I mean no offence, but I'm just wondering if you've created a solution to a problem that doesn't really exist? I do love to see innovation and inventiveness though, so as I say, I'm intrigued.

CATALYST been stolen
Herbie replied to kiddcheah's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
I've never even heard of Catloc but a quick google seems to show lots of info and if you were to buy one I'm sure it'll come with instructions on how to fit it. -
You've got the answers to all these questions in your other thread Ben. 1 and 2 - I'm sure you can do either. I'm almost certain that you can start paying now but the service plan won't actually be activated until the next service is required. The beauty of that (if it can indeed be done) is that you preempt any price rises over the period of cover. However, a quick phone call to the dealer will give you a definitive answer as to what you can do. 3 - Gold Membership is £39.95 annually and as long as your chosen dealer is signed up to the scheme it will pay for itself immediately in the discount you'll get on the service plan, so it's a no-brainer to do it. Also, if you refer back to the paperwork I posted yesterday you'll see that you can indeed pay monthly. I'll be making one payment at just under £227 and eighteen payments at about £52. 4. As I said yesterday: As an example, Lexus Preston is part of the Vantage Group, as are Lexus Birmingham, Lexus Wolverhampton and Lexus Leeds. If I take out a service plan with Preston, I could have servicing done at any of those other branches, but I couldn't go to, say, Lexus Carlisle because they aren't part of the Vantage Group.

Good grief, how much is that going to cost if one of those light units goes faulty? 24 separate LED chips that can be switched individually to illuminate different areas of road ahead, all controlled by what a camera 'sees' in the distance. That's going to be crazy money and will no doubt lead to writing off a car for the sake of a faulty or damaged headlamp unit.

12v battery problem hopefully

Glad it's worked out in the end and great to know that, as I'm in Preston, that I'll be able to go there and get good service. -
I use the 'What 3 Words' app on my phone for that very purpose if I'm somewhere new. They've divided the whole world into 3 metre x 3 metre squares and given each square its own 3-word reference, such as 'Bottle.Guitar.Food' or 'Bird.Garage.Ladder'. It's so accurate that the front door of your house has a different 3-word reference to the back door. If I'm somewhere new, as I step out onto the street from the car park I open the app and get the 3-word reference for that exact position and then it's a trivial matter to get back there later.

The main problem will be the 12V battery as they're quite small and have quite a low capacity. If the car is kept on a driveway rather than in a garage, you could get a solar panel trickle charger like this one here, for example. If that's not viable because the car is garaged, it may be an idea to get one of these multi-purpose jump start battery packs like this one here.

No idea about 'Find my car' but that's definitely the fusebox lid. I'd hazard a guess that they installed your dash cam using a piggy-back fuse tap and now it's too big for the lid to go back on. You could cut a notch into the lid to allow it to go back on or some people just leave them off and in the glove box. The fusebox itself will either be up behind the glove box or up inside the driver's footwell. Sometimes they are quite a way up and you have to get on your back to look up towards the dash rather than kneeling outside the car and looking towards the engine bay.

Welcome Igor, looking forward to seeing the photos!

Thanks for that John. You know far more about this than I do so I'm not questioning you but.... why would this information be needed by the ECU? I can see that the ECU needs to know the speed of the pump, but rotor position and direction? It's only pumping water around a sealed system so it wouldn't matter what direction the water was moving in, it would still pick up heat and move it to the rad.
-
Not necessarily. That fault code indicates that the inverter water pump isn't working (and a lack of turbulence in the coolant reservoir when the car is on would confirm this) but pump jam isn't the only thing that could go wrong. It may be a problem with the wiring or connections to the pump. If you feel safe, know what you're doing, and got the necessary safety equipment, ie, a pair of insulating rubber gloves/gauntlets rated to 1,000V, you could check the voltage at the pump connector. I'm not sure what voltage should be present but all three phases should be the same. I'll see if I can find any documentation regarding what voltage the pump requires.

If you have a button that says AFS then that's the Adaptive Front Lighting System (if you turn it off you'll also see a warning light in the instrument binnacle that reads 'AFS OFF'. This is the system that swivels the lights left or right as you steer left or right, but it only works above a certain speed (I think 15mph) so you won't see anything if you're just turning the wheel while stationary.

The warranty comes with full AA cover, even full European cover, so they will get it to the dealers if it can't be driven. Service plans are dealer-group specific but the warranty can be claimed on nationwide, Land's End to John O'Groats and all points in between. The two-for-one price has been running for a long time and seems to be 'the norm' but I suppose that could change at any time, so if Ben has the money at this moment it would make sense to pay for it now and it will commence cover as the first year warranty ends. The problem is, as I've mentioned in other posts, the requirement to have servicing done at the dealers too. The warranty itself is great value but then you have to also add in the costs of servicing - and when you're used to low mates rates like I've been for years, that is a major shock.
