There's also a misconception that hybrids will have 'better' precious metals due to the engine not running as much as a traditional car, but I really don't see that. It's more than 45 years since I did chemistry at school but I do remember that a catalyst speeds up a reaction but is not itself changed by said reaction, so whether from a brand new car or a 20-year old one, or whether from a hybrid or not, the precious metals should be the same.
