  1. I was indeed stuffed yesterday and today I have to do it all again as Bubble & Squeak 😄 It's hidden behind the glove box Piers. It's a while since we traded our 300 in but I'm almost certain that you have to remove the panel under the glove box and then lie on your back looking up towards the top of the dash and it'll be there.
  2. Cheers Piers, and the same to you and yours my friend. And to everyone else too, of course 😊
  3. It could well be down to the Cat thefts - the 400h does seem to be targeted more than any other car.
  4. Sorry it didn't work out for you Lann. I hate car insurance, they just seem to make it up as they go along. Ours is a 2013 RX450h, 12k miles/year, both of us 62 years old, both over 9 years NCB, and business cover for both of us and it was £575 last year. Due on 1st February if I remember correctly, it'll be interesting this year because we've both retired and no longer need business cover for either of us - wonder if it'll drop?
  5. Use a broker like https://www.aplan.co.uk/ who do all the comparisons for you. I've dealt with A-Plan for five years now and had insurance with three different companies through them during that time and I can say they are excellent to deal with.
  6. It's on a private plate Piers so the records are probably under its 'proper' reg number.
  7. That's correct. It takes about 20kV to strike the arc and about 80V to maintain it. If the lights have been on then switch off and wait for about 10 minutes before going anywhere near the choke (ballast). Of course, if the lights are off then that's fine.
  8. How far? From Preston, Teeside is just slightly over 100 miles but it takes about 2hrs 10min due to the roads. My point is - nowhere is too far for a nice trundle in sheer luxury, just sit back and enjoy
  9. Sort of Tom. Sod's Law suggests that if you need a jump start then it'll probably be on a cold, wet and windy night rather than a nice sunny day, so rather than mess about getting access to the battery itself (wife's mobility scooter usually in there) or risk losing the small plastic clips that hold the engine covers on to get access to the fusebox jump terminal, I thought I would fit a more convenient jump starting connection. That wiring is to a connector that I installed in the luggage area - only to later realise that if the battery is dead then you can't manually open the tailgate from outside as there is no key barrel So I left that connector in place and rectified my mistake by fitting another one in the lower level centre console, details of which are below:
  10. Could literally be anything. Any OBD2 codes been generated?
  11. Where is the wire that should be in that connector? Unless I'm missing something I can't see it. Anyway, you'll need something like this to get at the connector terminals to release them and remove the bits of wire that are left in there. Then you'll need two lengths of wire, connecting one end to the loom and the other end in the connector. EDIT: I think I've just seen the 'other ends' of the wires in the grey corrugated conduit below the connector, so you'll need to cut that conduit open (if it's not the split type) to get enough length to connect to.
  12. Yep, I agree with Piers. There will be better ones out there. Air suspension is around the £600 per corner mark if any air strut goes faulty and heater controls could be anything from a faulty switch or loose connection upwards.
  13. Not as far as I know but you could easily fit a USB voltmeter like I have and just tap it off the power socket next to it.
  14. He says in the post above that they are available from Amazon for £78. However, if you just Google it you'll see they are available from lots of places including here at the battery shop for £64.99 plus about £10 delivery.
  15. It's not so much the venting that's the problem. The reason AGM batteries were fitted OEM was for safety reasons because if the car rolls in an accident the acid cannot leak out into the cabin and pose a danger to the occupants. Some consider it a risk not worth taking but if you're happy with the risk then yes, a standard 'wet' battery can be fitted. EDIT: Lexus Parts Direct are currently out of stock but charge £187.26 for the OEM here.
  16. I do indeed live in Preston (funnily enough I married a Carlisle girl and we have family up there) but I'm afraid I've not yet had any dealings with them. We bought our car from Lexus Teeside and at that time Preston didn't have a Lexus dealership. Teeside were excellent to deal with in all respects so we took out a service plan with them, which has now expired, and that means that I will begin dealing with Preston in the next couple of months.
  17. Probably more than a Philips driver but no need for a Lexus dealer either. Most likely to be something with the level sensor but leaning towards electrical (being as only one side affected) rather than the mechanical linkage, which I assume would affect both headlights. This is the sort of thing you're looking at: The mechanical bits can seize up and sometimes break but if it's alright mechanically then have a look at the wiring and connectors of the sensor itself. If you undo the four screws there are contacts and springs in there, so it could be that the contacts need cleaning or a spring has broken. If it's beyond a clean and some TLC then new parts can be had from eBay like this sensor here for £24 or this mechanical linkage for £13. Enjoy your car but remember that it is 'a car' just like any other. There are certain jobs that a main dealer is probably better for, such as the hybrid system for instance, but things like this or suspension, brakes, wheel bearings, radiators etc., etc., etc., can be done by any good mechanic worth his salt.
  18. I only went in once and they were the most unhelpful bunch of people I've ever had to deal with.
  19. Tell us who it was so that we can avoid them. I bet it was Carlisle.
  20. We're good but we're not mind readers "Clunks" - from the front? From the back? Every single time it stops or only the final stop of the journey when you press the power button to turn the car off? Can you record the sound and post it on here?
  21. It happens whenever there isn't enough power (by whatever method) to hold the 'memory'.
  22. You need something better than wire and string, something like Jenolite steel stick epoxy putty.
  23. A condition of being able to get the warranty is that you must also have servicing carried out at a Lexus dealership and it's the service plan that gives two free MOTs. The warranty covers MOT-able items but doesn't cover the actual test as far as I know.
