Ooh, very nice The answer is still the same, it doesn't matter. All you're doing is piggybacking one good 12V source onto a dodgy 12V source. PS I don't remember seeing any photos of said 450h - did I just miss them?

Easy quick answer - it doesn't matter Piers. Just whichever is easiest for you to get at. Doesn't your wife have an RX300? If so, the battery is under the bonnet, not in the boot.

Which Techstream?

It is possible to use it on Win 10 64-bit but yes, it did take a couple of hours of fiddling about to get it right - so much so that I can'r remember what I finally did to get it to work! An easier and quicker way is to use either Oracle's VirtualBox or VMWare Workstation Player (both free) to create a virtual machine and either install Windows 7 or even Windows XP in that. -

All I can say is thank goodness for cheap Chinese knock-offs $495 is ok for someone earning a living with it but for most of us amateur or hobby mechanics who may use it two or three times a year, there's no way on earth I could justify that price. Even if I could, my good lady wifey would never agree -

RX400 to RX450

I agree that it can look messy but it doesn't have to and can be overcome with a little bit of work hiding the wiring etc., and it's a 'do it once and it's done for good' type of thing so it doesn't need to be done every time. The actual setting up and use of the navigation is much quicker and easier on the phone. I can input the destination, decide on the route (motorways or not etc), press 'go' and be driving away by phone, before I've even finished inputting the destination on the built-in system. In fact, I only ever use the built-in nav as a sort of rolling screensaver or have it displaying the radio or energy screens. -

First of all Dave, you're not buying Techstream. What you need is a miniVCI cable from eBay/Amazon or wherever and you need this cable to allow the laptop to talk to the car. Most of the eBay sellers (and I would imagine Amazon sellers too) also bundle a copy of Techstream in with the cable, but this is, of course, a pirated copy, which we can't discuss on here. The correct way to do it would be to buy the cable and then download Techstream (free) from https://www.lexus-tech.eu/DiagnosticTools/Setup and then pay for a block of time to use it, currently €5/day. Whichever way you go is a matter for your own conscience but you'll need that cable anyway no matter what, and I think this is the one I bought if I remember correctly. -

Not sure about turning circle but it wouldn't matter to me anyway - just do a 3-point turn, no problem. Slower? No idea, but plenty fast enough. Sat nav is indeed rubbish, being counter-intuitive, clunky, slow and outdated but isn't that normal for almost any Lexus? I much prefer to use Sygic or Waze or Google Maps on my phone as they are kept up to date on an almost daily basis and allow users to report problems that are fed into the system within minutes. Apart from that the little 'mouse' by the gear lever is difficult to use, especially if you're right handed because you have to use this thing with your left hand. When I try to use it it's like some alien has taken over my brain because I know where I want the pointer to be but just can't get my hand to coordinate with my eyes! The RX450h is newer, brighter and a whole order of magnitude better in every way, sort of car. Seating is more comfortable; layout is much better; lighting is better and so on. Admittedly, I had an RX300, not a 400h, but apart from the drivetrain they are very similar and I can say that I'm very pleased that I traded up. -
It'll be great, no doubt whatsoever.

Battery labels may not explicitly state whether it's AGM or not but there should at least be a model number somewhere which will then enable you to either go to the manufacturers website to download the spec sheet or to just do a general search via Google to get the info. As for where to connect chargers and/or jump leads - it doesn't matter. All you're doing is piggybacking one 12V source in parallel with another 12V source. All the car/the battery/the electronics will 'see' is just 12 incoming volts and it doesn't matter a jot where it's coming from. The only caveat regarding chargers is that you must be using a modern 'intelligent' charger with a regulated and clean output, not some rusty old transformer-based thing that's been in the garage for the last 40 years.

I would think either Lexus dealer or breakers on eBay would be best places to try.

OBD2 is an industry standard so whether you've got a Ford, a Vauxhall, a BMW etc., etc., there are certain codes that will be applicable to all. However, there are also a lot of manufacturer-specific codes as well, that aren't read by 'El-Cheapo' code readers, and I would imagine that the Toyota/Lexus hybrid system codes are unable to be read by your machine rather than not being there at all. If you have a laptop you can get a miniVCI cable from eBay or Amazon, which will almost always come with a (pirated) copy of Techstream, which is the same diagnostic software used my Lexus techs in dealer workshops. Of course, I'm not condoning the use of pirated software. The correct way would be to freely and legitimately download Techstream from https://www.lexus-tech.eu/DiagnosticTools/Setup and then buy a block of time to use it (one day access is €5) but either way you'll need that miniVCI cable.

GSF Battery problem or CTEK issue?
Herbie replied to F.A.'s topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Exactly. I said it half-jokingly and suppose that would have worked better if I'd also used a smiley emoji, so that's my fault. But it was also meant as a bit of a prod as well. I think my track record on here will show that I like to help people whenever I can and that I'm happy to do so, but I also think people should do a bit of work themselves before asking for help. A quick googling may have brought up the answer or, given that he has the very car and battery in question sitting a few feet away from him, a quick look or a photo to post on here would have been good. It just seemed a bit lazy to me but I appreciate that that's down to my own interpretation and I meant no offence, so I apologise. -

^^^^^^^^This. I've never understood people who buy cars with stuff like this in and then think they know better than the computers. Just let it do it's thing that it was designed to do and you get the best out of it.
