Lexus relax: a new way to time unlimited warranty?
PRT68 replied to Zotto's topic in Lexus General Discussions
Looks to me that one of the clauses may be that the original 3 year warranty has not expired. So may not apply retrospectively if say your car is now 5 years old. Have to wait and see. -
Is the Lexus brand quality still there?
PRT68 replied to paulrnx's topic in Lexus General Discussions
Tend to agree with all the above comments. Prior to retirement, I had a couple of Prius as a taxi for 6 years. Bought an ISF when I retired, and now have an RC300h, both purchased as a step up from Toyota. When service time comes along, I've had a demo Lexus as a courtesy car, and on all occasions, been glad to get back in to my own. I can't see myself purchasing another newish Lexus, as I don't think the quality is there now. Add in the fact I won't have an SUV style of vehicle, and I won't have an opportunity for a CT sized car as they don't do one now. So back to Toyota in the future. As I see it, the premium for Lexus over Toyota has gone now, and if I buy a 3 year old Toyota, I won't have to pay a grand for an extra 2 years warranty. -
Ok this will sound daft, but...
PRT68 replied to barryb's topic in Lexus RC Owners Club / RC 200t / RC 300h Club
I have an RC Luxury without the memory seats. I'm 66, fortunately without health problems, and it's OK getting out after trips up to an hour long. 2 hours plus, and I then tend to get out by placing my right hand on the cill and then 'spinning' out . Sometimes it's elegant, sometimes it resembles falling out! Main thing that bugs me on my version, is that the mirrors can only be folded in before turning the car off. Meaning you can't look rearwards before opening the door. Great care is then required. -
RC F oil check problem
PRT68 replied to XK140's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
I thought I had that problem with my ISF when I bought it. A quick look in the manual said to to only check the oil level 5 minutes after turning the engine off. This then gave the correct reading. Is the RCF the same? -
Thinking of buying a VW/Audi electric car?
PRT68 replied to Spacewagon52's topic in Lexus General Discussions
Hmmm, I've read similar reports on other forums. It would also seem that Skoda reliability is better than Audi, because they use the older technology that people like him are developing! Back to this car. It wouldn't surprise me if it's had an accident prior to delivery, and that's the cause of the poor paint and water ingress. -
Yes Scudney, it is me. Clue was in the number plate! Nice to see another Lexus owner. Saw yours and reminded me of my ISF, which was a regular there for Momentum. Just remembered, your number plate, ha!

Rear-ended in Copenhagen
PRT68 replied to Rabbers's topic in Lexus RC Owners Club / RC 200t / RC 300h Club
Glad it's all sorted. As an aside, bought a magnetic GB plate prior to going on the Eurotunnel. Went to apply at the services, and guess what! Luckily it fitted above, on the narrow panel adjacent to the central L badge. -
Potential new RC 300h owner help
PRT68 replied to Dibo201's topic in Lexus RC Owners Club / RC 200t / RC 300h Club
I've had my Luxury version coupe for 18 months now and love it. As mentioned, rare and always garners looks especially when parked. No problems or surprises. Very, very quiet when cruising . Have set my over taking indicator flashes for 8 times. Only disadvantage I can think about of, are the wide doors, possibly giving you a problem in city car parks. I'm retired, and as it's fairly low, getting out sometimes resembles falling out! -
HYBRID CARS Brake Caliper Sieze - Pins - Use
PRT68 replied to Spacewagon52's topic in Lexus General Maintenance
When I had a Prius as a taxi, I used to take the brakes apart annually, and never had a problem after the first seizure. Other drivers that used to use hand car washes seemed to have problems as the chemicals and regular blasting of the power hosing took their toll. Don't do it now on my Lexus, as I fear that it may invalidate the warranty. If there's a problem they seem to be covered according to previous reports. -
Indicator stalk (switch) on RCs
PRT68 replied to Linas.P's topic in Lexus RC Owners Club / RC 200t / RC 300h Club
I found a quick search on YouTube is the best bet. Watch a few times, and then sit in the car and do it. I set mine to 7 flashes. -
Try these, www.northamptonwelding.co.uk Local to me and heard good reports

Although the owner of an RC300h, I was surprised to find a full tool kit including a jack! Especially as there is no where to fit a spare wheel. I suppose it's to raise the car to remove a punctured wheel and get it repaired.

Corolla hybrid, top range model. Would definitely not go for an SUV thing. -

Try another Lexus dealership. Lexus Milton Keynes (where I purchased the car from)quoted £395 for my RC300h! Website showed the price of £125 and that's what Lexus Coventry charged me, including coffee and a quick valet. Bought my previous Lexus from Coventry and have been very pleased with servicing, so won't go anywhere else. -
I think Lexus are making a grave mistake here. After driving Toyota's for nearly 10 years, I purchased my first Lexus, an ISF, just over 2 years ago when I retired. Wanted to have a final fling with a V8. After a year or so of very happy ownership, I changed it for a RC300h, and enjoying that also. Eventually I will have to purchase our last and final car, and would like a luxury premium brand, smaller car. I was hoping that would be a new version CT when it was 2 years old. Alas, that doesn't seem like that's going to happen. My wife and I can't see the love for an SUV thing. So where will that leave us and many others? Looks like the top versions of an Auris or Yaris. At least then, if I buy a 2 year old one, I won't have to pay for a warranty for 3 years! But, I want a small Lexus!!

IS300h Advance silver alloy colour/code
PRT68 replied to Maxz's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
If just touching up with a brush, I've sprayed a silver aerosol into the cap and progressively added some black to get to correct shade. Nothing to lose, if you want to experiment. -
IS300h - Creaking coming from windows?
PRT68 replied to Luke1986's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I also use this stuff, particularly on the rubbers on my RC, as the frameless windows retract when opening the doors. Also use it on all the other rubbers, boot and bonnet, in case they freeze in the winter. Apply every 3 months to keep them supple. -
rc f sport was a disappointment

Presently in France in my RC300h. Cruising on the Autoroutes at 130kph in near silence is sublime. Throw in 49 mpg and it's hard to beat. -

It's branded as Toyota, so either dealer will have it, or order off the 'net. -
Sorry EvilRacer329, didn't mean to belittle your car or choice. I guess at the age of 66 I come from the era when you had a sports car when single, saloon when married, an estate when the kids came along, and a Coupé when retired to cruise across continents! Oh, and if a farmer a 4 x 4. Just don't understand these SUV's!!
-
Had one as a courtesy car earlier this month when my RC300h Luxury was in for service. Don't know what spec it was, but to me it seemed just like an average Toyota. Plastics that would scratch too easily and very flimsy trim. Also no extra room inside. Boot certainly smaller than the coupe, and less knee room in the rear as well. I do appreciate mine is a lot more awkward to get into, and only seats 2 instead of 3. As previously mentioned, the UX is nowhere useful as a family vehicle, and I just don't see the point of it. My RC is of the lowest spec in that range, but in terms of luxury, streaks ahead of the loan car we had. Why oh why don't Lexus make an estate version of the IS or ES to compete with the 5 or E series competition. If they did, I'd have one in an instant, and I'm positive many others would also.

Thanks steve2006. I did find those threads in my search, and they don't seem to help. It would appear that can be easily done with Sport models. Alas, as mine is a Luxury, it is more basic, and appears to have an analogue physical dial, as against a full digital one. I'll be careful and use the satnav one, using the bong warning if I get to the limit.
