  1. Quick update from the garage - the car is repairable! I am so glad! She needs a new bonnet, headlamp, bumper and front left wing and may be other small things under the bonnet. The garage have done a wheel alignment and it is all good, means the body had not been deformed! Now, lets wait and see what insurance will say wrt to whose fault the accident was.
  2. Hi @Shahpor, nothing so far, I got a courtesy car yesterday - Skoda Octavia, will do for now. Garage which might be fixing my car contacted me, they just got car today, it will take them couple of days (I hope) to evaluate the damage, contact insurance and see if it worth fixing or make it as a write off. If it is a write-off (I hope not) than I will have (I am already having one by thinking that's my GS might be a write-off) a headache to decide what my next car can be, V90, Superb etc? Prices for GS, RX and ES models are so much higher than they were a year ago and I don't think I can afford it! I won't have much money to spend just now, it will be about £20-£22k and I am not looking forward to sign a new PCP deal for 3-4 years without knowing what to expect in a near future wrt to petrol prices, job etc.
  3. For a week or two I might ask couple fo neighbours to drop the kids of at school. Anyway, I will cross that bridge when I hear from the garage and insurance. Thanks Malcolm.
  4. Morning @Malc, I am waiting on insurance verdict later today. I need a car, even though we have 2 cars (1 of them is Lexus) we use both of them, my wife works from office 3-4 times a week, I am still working from home and therefore responsible for kids being dropped of in school and nursery and with the current Scottish weather walking is out of question. 🙂 My eldest daughter (9YO) is the most excited, now she tells all her friends that she was in a car accident and everyone is asking her if she is ok and how it happened! 🙂
  5. @Malc, Is it like if they offer you for damaged car £15k but repairs would cost £5k, then they can sell you your car for £10k and give you £5k cheque? Or basically you keep the car with £5k cheque.
  6. Hi @Malc, mileage is just under £60k (£59920 miles or thereabouts). Unfortunately, I do not have connections with repair body shops. I heard people buying the car of the insurer somehow if the car is a Total Loss, get money for it and then fix it for 50% of the price as you say but I never understood how it works. For example, if it is a Total Loss and insurer offers me £10k, how can they sell my car back to me? What price would that be? My policy says, they will try to swap it with the same car, offer money for it as per local market prices, I can add more money and get an other car with them be it cheaper or more expensive car. Sounds like a lot of hustle if it beyond repairs, plus I am not ready to buy something else, unless it is much cheaper for a year or two as a runner. Now every used car is bloody expensive! Will see, hope to hear tomorrow from the garage wrt to damage and the cost. So far it will cost me £700 as an excess, if car is repairable, I might get these money back if other part will admit their fault, however, I doubt that.
  7. Thanks, I hope so @Shahpor. I hate dealing with insurance.
  8. thanks @paulrnx, I think it would be about £5k. The bonnet was not open yet so I am not sure what damaged underneath but the coolant is lost. Lets see what insurance have to say tomorrow.
  9. HI all, the main thing everyone is alright! What is everyone's opinion, will this be fixed by insurance or it is a write off? Coolant got lost too so the I could not drive the car and had to wait for a Rescue 911. Left passenger door can't be open as it catches the front wing! It is not my fault, at least I think so, as I was in outside lane overtaking when the car in left lane decided to overtake too without checking mirrors!
  10. I said that before - about 3 years ago I sat in one garage (direct comparison) Camry that cost about 32k euros and in ES with the price 43k euros, even though some design cues are similar, like dashboard lines, switches design etc but the difference starts as soon as you open the door and sit in the car - the door opens on ES plusher and feels heavier, the seats are nicer and comfier, the more time you spend inside the more you see where these extra 10k gone. Saying that, I do not think Lexus ES as plush inside as 5 series but much better then any Toyota, even though underneath it is a Toyota. Wrt to NX, i saw a video from Carwow, I actually attached it to another thread, and was unbelievably surprised when Mat moved central console with his hands, my GS wouldn't have that! I know it is not a real test or anything but on some much cheaper cars he did it and it was solid! I like how someone above said - if you drive a Lexus you don't feel like it is Toyota, if you drive Toyota you do wish you were in Lexus. 🙂 Current Toyotas made a massive step in a right direction with the exterior design and the quality of interior materials! Only if they were quieter I would consider one.
  11. Now I want one even more! 🙂
  12. I was fighting the urge to watch it on Carwow during working hours but I can't resist it anymore, coffee brake and carwow now! 🙂
  13. James, if you are not by now then you should be a writer and write nice and easy reading stories like that! Very glad you enjoy the Betsy, I like them (ES) more and more!
  14. It is a great time to sell my GS now but I have no idea what to go for, electric, PHEV or hybrid! If PHEV were like £3-4k more expensive than hybrid I would go for it but £7k - you need to do a lot of miles on electric only to cover that price difference, plus we do not know what fuel prices will bring in near future which also delays my decision on a new car. It's not that easy nowadays to buy a car, is it? 🙂 As a full electric, I would check out Volvo Polestar, KIA brought a few fully electric models to a market, in 6 months time we will have much more choice, only if they were reasonably priced! 🙂
  15. Lovely car, it does look nice in white! Welcome to the forum btw. Quite different cars you had in last 4 years or so, started with saloon, then an SUV and ended up with the coupe. 🙂 Can I ask, why an RC and not another RX or an ES, especially you had a saloon (BMW) before that?
  16. RC is not my cup of tea but this one is beautiful! I love that colour! Congratulations and well done going for RS-F and not 200t! Welcome to LOC btw! 😉
  17. Well done Jason, nicely worded. I had the same issue on my GS, Lexus dealer wanted crazy money for a new one, I even ordered a new one (much cheaper than Lexus UK) from Amayama but removed the whole mechanism and like you checked everything, re-lubricated and all started working again. I just didn't know you can operate it via Techstream to check it.
  18. Welcome Dave, GS460 an unusual Lexus choice but a nice car. Enjoy the forum!
  19. Welcome Jon to LOC. Must be one hell of a difference to drive RX after diesel Toyota! 🙂
  20. Congrats! Looks like a very nice car! Which one did you go for? an AWD? Coincidently I have read about this car yesterday and even looked at the prices today! Please let us know how the car performs, I am interested!
  21. Autoglym Polar Seal looks interesting, I will check it out.
  22. Very nice Marlon, thanks for sharing! I need to buy a new sprayable wax but not sure for what to go for, I was thinking about Ceramic Coating spray either from Meguiar's or Autoglym, also Alchemy Ducktail had very good reviews in one of the car magazines. Anyway, good job! Well done, the car looks mint!
  23. Hello Daniel, welcome to LOC! I like how your priorities changed from an "old" car to ISF! 🙂 Does it have to be a saloon, as you could also look at RCF, I have no idea how many of them left in UK market though and what is easier to find to buy. But good luck with your search and please keep us updated!
  24. Would Lexus Relax cover something like that? 🙂
