Welcome to the LOC, I can confirm the car is very comfortable, you won't regret! What hybrid issues?
-
Nope, not to my taste, dashboard design is weird, exterior design not great either and 8.9sec to get to 62mph?! I am sorry but this is slow, even BMW 518d probably will do better. This is a Premium car (at least trying to replace one) and these numbers are not competitive, I think Lexus should try harder or give us more choices like bigger engine and All wheel drive with ES. When time comes I won't be buying one of these, RX for me (may be as not driven one yet) or a GS but newer to mine.

What Makes a Premium Car these days?

I think it's like holding an expensive watch or a pen or a lighter - you will know it's an expensive quality product due to material, weight etc, the same with cars. :) -

I think with more gears you engine has to rev less and your rev band is narrower therefore it is more economical, probably it does confuse some gearboxes but not the best (ZF) of them, this is why today auto gearboxes are quicker from standstill and slightly more economical (on paper at least) than manual GB. I agree that the manual GB gives you better car control though. -
Hi John, will keep you updated, no problem. Regards wiper blades, with my previous cars I learned that wiper blades should be OEM only, I have tried before to use Bosch (Bosh) and others on my previous BMW and they all were crap, either noisy, short or not leaning against the window properly!, Yes, OEM are very expensive (very), from Lexus I have been quoted something like £70-75 but then you need to buy only the rubber strips when time comes, on my GS previous owner bought not OEM items so I can't get just rubber strips from Lexus that cost about £30-35.

Linas I thought turbo petrol has bigger power band than diesel cars, especially 2.0 ltr ones, fair enough they don't have as much toque as similar size diesel but the power range (torque and bhp graph) should be wider. I drove a VW Polo (rental car on holidays) with small turbo petrol (1.4 probably) and manual gear box and it was very flexible engine. Also you mentioned BMW does have a 7-speed auto gear box, never heard of it, I thought they were all 8-speeders auto, again, I might be mistaken though as was never seriously considering a turbo petrol engine before so never looked into it properly. -
Thanks John, I would hear a crashing noise and usually when shock is gone your wheel/s is/are jumping on any pothole as only supported by a spring, I have seen this on my colleague's car and I have none of these, no noise and no jumping wheels up and down plus if you push the car and release it it still bounces, well, I need to check this as I have not done it - will do it on my lunch! It could be just me being paranoid. I need a new set of screen wipers anyway so might book the car to check the shocks as well later in a month.

Hi all, Couple of weeks ago a friend of mine took my GS for a ride (little test drive) and I was following him on his Skoda Supeb and I noticed that the rear of my GS is moving a lot up and down, wafting/floating I think is another word, I thought this is normal and that what gives me a fantastic comfortable ride so I just left it. Yesterday my boss was driving behind me and this morning his words were - are your shocks fine as the rear of your car moving a lot up and down and your previous 5 series looked very planted and stable, so it got me thinking, may be something is not right! The car feels normal and at motorway speeds doesn't feel loose or all over the place, before I bought the car it went to Lexus Edinburgh for battery health check and there was no advisories and after I bought the car I took it to Lexus Glasgow for TPMS issue and they did an overall health check and again there was nothing about worn or leaked shocks! Has any of you GS owners had a chance to drive behind your car and noticed the same thing? Is it normal or shall I take it to the garage and get it checked? Thanks for any comments everyone! Vlady

At this moment of time I would stay with my GS as I love how comfy it is and Genesis was more on a sporty side. Before I bought my GS I test drive a Jaguar XF S Portfolio, apparently previous owner traded it in for Kia Stinger! -

I was in South Korea recently and have been driven in Genesis, I was quite impressed by how good it sounded, drove and looked, probably interior quality is not the best (still good though) but very decent car indeed! -

Koreans? Did you see a report from J.D Power (not sure if it was America only though) it says Hyundai, Kia and Genesis are top three most reliable cars! Design is up there now, interior quality is not Lexus but it is competing with Lexus now easily! -
Hi John, can't help you here but I was wandering the same thing, what will happen to TPMS if I put on set of winter wheels, I do not have them yet though so was thinking to run current tires to minimum legal and then buy an all-season tires just to avoid the issue with the 2nd set of wheels but if there is a way to get it done that's great! I will be following this thread and see what ideas other folks have. Vlady

Hi Gary, I never went as far as online sites but when I was in Lexus Glasgow I asked them how much would it cost to upgrade the maps, the price is £200! It's not my priority yet as I am using my phone when I have to but if there is cheaper (than Lexus) way let me know please! Sorry not much help here. Vlady

All year round tyres
Vlady replied to kellogsj's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
I have used OPONEO a 3-4 times to get my tires, they were the cheapest but twice I had issues with them! 1st time I ordered 2 new tires and they had sent to me 2 wrong tires and not just the size even the make was wrong! The fun started when I contacted them and asked for another set of tires OPONEO said I need to pay for another set and no money will be refunded until they receive the wrong tires back, which is fine but it took them a week to organise a courier to pick them up, then another few days to refund the money and only then I was able to place a new order for another 2 new tires, all in all took me 2.5 weeks to get right tires! 2nd time I ordered just 1-off tire to replace the punctured tire on my car and OPONEO had sent 2 tires but this time my tire was correct make and size but second tire was totally random from my order (of 1 tire) but they were nicely packed together as one order! I am saying if you use them just make sure straight away you check that you got delivered what you ordered! 🙂 -

I had Nokians on my BMW as a winter set, even though they were M+S tires, very good in deep snow and heavy rain, not so good on ice/melted snow, warm conditions (above 7C) or when rain just starts. Would I buy them again as all year round tires for Lexus? Probably not, I would consider Michelin Cross Climate+ first, unless I can get Nokian for half the price of the Michelin. -
What was the worst and best car you ever owned?
Vlady replied to dutchie01's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
Everyone is saying Japanese cars are very reliable and Lexus is one of the best and I want it to be true! You see, the e60 is a very problematic motor with EGR, DPF, Turbo, engine issues but mine was great, apart from little rust (enough to put me off), I think it had been previously repaired but badly (well, it took almost 3 years to reappear. I had none of the issues I mentioned above. When I bought BMW I wanted more sporting drive and I always favoured BMW to any other makers (I had 4 different BMWs) and at this moment of time I need comfort, good music, good acceleration (even though I use it very rarely) and this is what Lexus does best! I just want Lexus to prove to me that it is reliable and I will on my part will do anything needed to keep it healthy! 🙂 -
Phil, the car has black leather interior, I never wanted to go for a black car (my 1st) with black leather interior but this one has cooling seats that I tried and liked them so no worries there anymore. Will see how black paint will be as I have little OCD regards cleanless and paint quality of my car! 🙂 So far I like the car a lot, quite, very very comfy and can be quick, love Mark Levinson audio system, cooled seats and presence of the car on the road. With colder and darker period I hope heated seats will perform well (BMW seats were great, really warm) and also looking forward to xenon lights, never had xenon before! On my previous BMW I had to install an HID kit as manufacture lights were rubbish!

The worst car I had was Renault Laguna (1999-reg), so many electrical issues, from immobiliser and engine management to headlights not working, the problems were intermittent so the garage could not find a fault, was so glad to see the car go! It was my 1st car I bought in UK, about 11-12 years ago! The best so far was BMW e60 525d (2009-reg), I had the car before the GS for 3.5 years and it was one of the most reliable cars I had, nice to drive, comfy, looked good but it was a diesel and rust started appearing on rear arches and it was the moment when I realised the car must go, was a sad day! I think (hope) I can say nice words about the GS, so far I love it, it is quitter, comfier, quicker, better specced than my BMW was, great car! The time will tell! 🙂 -
Picked up the car from Lexus Glasgow today as the garage I bought it from (not Lexus) agreed to pay for a TPMS sensor issue! The good thing is - it is fixed now and all is working! The garage was supposed to pay for work but as always there is something - this time (today) they didn't have any managers in the shop to authorise the payment, managers will be back on Monday so I had to pay myself, so the story is not over, need to get money from the garage now! I had to pay £158 to rectify the issue, the garage I bought it from put new tires on rear and changed one of the sensors, Lexus said if it is not genuine part they will replaced with the genuine part and overall repair will cost just under £300! Luckily the sensor was genuine but I still had to pay almost £160! I think it needed to re-coded and probably the tire had to be removed to check the sensor! I have asked Lexus Glasgow to code my windows so I can operate them from the key fob, many people here said Lexus can do it for free but LG charged me for it, not much just £13 but common! Also, just begore paying I showed the GoldMember card and the guy behind the desk was really surprised - he's never seen it before! I know he works in this garage at least for 4 years! Is there no members from Glasgow in this forum?! Anyway, I asked for a discount and he refused by saying that everything was printed and invoiced and nothing he can do now and that I should tell them about the card way before! I thought I had to show the card just before paying! Well, luckily the garage will reimburse (fingers crossed) the money but it could be me paying, you know what I am saying? Also the car was not washed and not hoovered, I am a bit disappointed to be honest with the so praised Lexus service. The guy apologised for car not being washed as the put a new concrete where they wash cars but said it was hoovered, when I opened the door the car WAS not hoovered, he looked shocked and asked if I wait until they clean it inside, I was ****** off at that point and just said NO and left asking him to pass a message that I am not happy! Anyway, this is my experience with Lexus Glasgow! But boy was I glad to have the car back! I am happy now! 🙂
