Hi James, welcome to LOC! The wheels look very individual on that car, well done. Tyres Maxxis though? Are they any good? Also, I have never used ceramic coating, I am more of the old school guy, you know - resin polish, carnauba wax etc, ceramic is it something really worth it and lasts long? Did you apply coating yourself? Thanks

I use Shell V-power every 5th or 5th tank, usually use normal shell fuel and try to avoid supermarket, also as well as John above I use Redex every 3-5k miles. Personally I think Shell V-power makes the car works smoother, a little more responsive accelerator and slightly better mpg, may be it is a Placebo effect but I noticed that when I had diesel BMW and Passat and now with GS. It is getting harder to justify spending 15-20 pence difference though to normal petrol.

Good idea Mark, it doesn't have top be a GS only, any car you own or impressed you with the engine running. The reason I say that - on BMW forum there is a thread called Shaken not Stirred, basically you open the bonnet and place a half full glass (clear glass preferably) on engine cover and start you car from cold, the amount of vibrations might surprise you. If I remember right - the BMW 535i was the smoothest and you should see diesels and even 2ltr 4 cylinder petrol engines. I did that test for GS but never posted the video as it was not as smooth as I expected even though I just changed engine oil and filters! 🙂 The engine might run smoothly but start up shake can be bad! If anyone interested let me know and I will create a thread with the 1st video! 😉

Hi Rajinder, Congratulations on the car, these are very good cars! I moved from BMW and even though I still like BMW can't justify buying one instead of Lexus, reliability no where near Lexus! Point 1. My car when start cold quite noisy too, it was pretty quite when I moved from diesel BMW (even though it was a 6 cylinder engine) but when the car warms up it is quieter, I think it also depends on fuel you use, I prefer Shell as I find the car is smoother and quieter and every 4th or so tank I put in a Super Unleaded or whatever it's called. I also use sometimes injector cleaning additive, may be every 5k miles. Point 4 - as @Linas.P above I would not accept the car on these tyres, tbh I never even heard of these tyres before! When I was buying my GS rear tyres needed to be changed even though they were way above 1.6mm in thread depth but it was my condition, the garage (not Lexus dealer) agreed and we never discussed the tyre make and only a few days later I phoned them and told them that I would not accept the car on cheap (Chinese/Malaysian brands) tyres and I would rather pay the difference but get a decent tyres as it is a powerful saloon car! The garage totally agreed with me and said the plan was to put on Avon which I had nothing against it and so it was Avon on the back of the car which I found pretty good. Hope it helps. Attach the photos of the car! We all want to see it! 🙂 Vlad

I have rusty bits on my 2012 GS as well, was wondering if it is normal or because I live in Scotland. I was even thinking if I need to clean and seal the whole underbody and was looking online videos and even companies who do that. I had an MOT couple of weeks ago at Lexus Glasgow and they never mentioned any issues regards body or suspension rust.

John, I do like RX now but can't afford one just now, my GS still does the job perfectly for now. In a couple of years RX's will be more affordable and it might be the time to part with my GS but in 2 years time RX might not be the best car to own, you know how our government keep changing their mind when it comes to automotive. 🙂

Having a smile reading BMW forum, when guys feel so relieved after passing and MOT test, some of them describing it while waiting as sitting in a corridor at dentist waiting for an appointment or sitting and waiting while your wife is giving a birth! lol! 🙂 I just told them that I used to be like that, always worried and saving money for every service and MOT as something gotta go wrong and then all stopped - I bought a Lexus! 🙂 God, may be I am lucky with this GS but I had no issues so far and if it can last couple more years I will be happy! The only problem is, by that there will be no Lexus I would like to own, I like the RX but in 2022 it will be expensive to run, I think fuel prices will go up much higher! Probably electric? 🙂

HYBRID CARS Brake Caliper Sieze - Pins - Use
Vlady replied to Spacewagon52's topic in Lexus General Maintenance
Hi David, read in this thread more about brakes issues, this thread is more recent one I tend to disassemble, clean and re-grease my brakes twice a year and even then my rear brakes are rusty (this was also picked on my last MOT), I do not drive much just now and haven't had any harsh braking done in a few months so I tend to clean pins and slides and pads more often manually, it is doesn't take much time and pretty straight forward. Saying that I also noted what @Britprius said above - put in neutral and brake harshly to clean the brakes, will be doing that more often! Thanks -
This is just parts! I told them I will fit the parts myself. It is a expensive! Richard do they do discs though for Premier Model, front discs are in larger size for this model and therefore it is more expensive. By the way, this is the price with 10% LOC discount, without it it would be £800! It is expensive.

Had a phone call yesterday from Lexus Glasgow, asking details why I think my car was badly washed?! Seriously?! I explained it all and as per Lexus comments they offered a full valet when it suits me! Not having much faith as I mentioned above but will give it a go during cold winter months! 🙂 I asked why nobody contacted me regards my request for a brake discs&pads quote and guess what, half an hour later I received a phone call from parts department and was given a price including 10% discount, it would be about £730 for all 4 discs and 2 sets of pads! I1-off front disc cost £224!!! Not ideal but luckily I do not need these just now! I am considering a wheel refurb to get done though. 🙂

Didn't do anything to the car but got an email from Lexus asking me to leave a comment on Google after my last visit, I did and gave them only 3 stars but praised Service department, however, I mentioned how badly my car was washed! 10 minutes later, Jason replied to my comment offering a proper full valet, I asked Lexus to pass my details to Jason but so far heard nothing, it has been a day so far! To be honest I do not have much faith in their valet after last time, I spent days on my paint work and now not sure if I should give them a car to wash but nothing more I can ask in return I guess. Lets see if Jason will contact me.

Rear brakes are done this morning, all clean and lubricated, I am glad I did it, now it should be fine until April or so. Still waiting for a price from Lexus for front discs and pads. I don't really need it just now, my pads are not worn (I have done about 7k miles on them), rear discs though pitted and slightly rusty. Nothing I should be worried about until later next year!

On Another note: yesterday I did some maintenance on front brakes, removed front wheels, washed them properly, took apart front brakes, cleaned and lubricated them. I try to do that every 6 months or so, never had to do anything like that with any other cars, the good thing is it is easy to do! This morning the plan is to do the rear, they are more prone to rust so defo needs to be done before winter comes. On another note, put winter tyres on my wife's car, washed summer set tyre and they are ready for a layer of PoorBoys sealant and after that be stored for 6 months or so! 2 tyres need changing anyway (quite bold), this is the main reason I put winters on so early!
