Just bought 2008 GS450h, new to forum, new to Lexus.

Denis, welcome to the forum! Good to have you here! With Lexus you will have boring weekends - nothing to fix on the car 🙂 but money saved will be spent on waxes, polishes etc! 🙂 When I had a BMW I always had on a back of my mind that something will go wrong with the car, I knew every MOT or service there is a potential of repair, may be not a breakdown but defo an advisory, to me it is the same as I tend to fix even advisories as soon as I can. 🙂 It is a good advice to see LExus to do a Battery Health Check, I was just not sure they do it on the cars older than 10 years. Check shock absorbers (common on Mark 3) and brake discs/calipers as they tend to seize, especially when the car was not driven for a while. It is easy to do brake maintenance. As John says, please attach some photos, we all like them. Good luck with the Car Denis and keep us posted! -
Hello i-s, good to have you back! I thought you have left the forum. 😞 I checked this with Lexus Glasgow when I noticed that "floatiness", the luck of directional stability and they couldn't find anything, they said they have never seen a failed shock on GS Mark4. I thought the issue was in wheel alignment but I did that with Lexus and nothing really changed after that. Since then I have done 2 MOT's with Lexus and 2 Battery Health Checks so I assume if there was a leakage/sweatiness in the shock-absorbers they would spot it. Thanks for a suggestion though, when I am in the garage next time I will ask them to check it again.

The car is back with me, it was only one sensor that need replacement. I didn't have a chance to check the work they have done on the wheels neither to check which sensor they have changed as it was dark and raining, hopefully this morning will be dryer so i can go outside and have a look and take a photo. I also wish to give a car a proper wash but the weather disagreeing with me, it is cold, frosty over nights and roads treated so the car will get dirty pretty quickly if I go even for a short drive. It is clean inside though, i usually clean inside once a week. Beautiful! Nice photo!

Just an update, had a phone call from the wheel refurb company, apparently only 1 sensor is required and all in with the coding will be £65 on top of I am paying for the wheel refurb, not too bad! I would pay Lexus about £150! I also hope the garage didn't take advantage of me, I use them 1st time, and decided to make some money on me. Will be checking my sensors, at least visually! 🙂

Dropped the lexus at the wheel refurb company. 2 sensors came out fine but other 2 must be cut out as they seized. Grrr! Phoned Lexus Glasgow, they can change both sensors and code them in for £290! Ouch! Waiting on a price from the wheel company garage, may be they can provide a cheaper alternative.

Martin, this is in Russia, I like to watch youtube videos and Russia and Eastern Block (UK doesn't have that many videos on used cars, like 10-15/20 years old) do have good stuff now on youtube, Camry is very popular there, and all youtubers say the brake discs are prone to warping. Saying that, I am still on BMW forum and they have these issues as well, not sure it is due to the way the car is driven or just week disc material. I think Lexus is using to a great material and they easily overheat or whatever.

This and warped front discs. Toyota Camry, especially with 3.5 motor also suffers this. Preventative Maintenance job that doesn't take long, especially if the car is on the ramp, however, considering Lexus charges about £130 per hour that means they will charge you I would say about £260 for the job. I would not pay these money on my used car but the cars that still under manufacture warranty should get this treatment during service.

Steve, they are directional. I was going to put rear tyres on front and vice versa. I had an repairable puncture (cut) on the front left tyre and ordered a new one, I want to put a new one on the back of the car and the one from the back move to the front.

Does it mean no matter where the wheel is (what side) on the car , the pressure sensor will show correctly on a driver screen and it will be correct for each wheel, I mean the reading on the screen (lets say NS front) will show the pressure from left side front wheel? How the car knows which pressure sensor where to show it correctly on a screen, this is what I do not understand. Thanks Luigi. I booked wheel refurb for next week as well. Will see how it goes. Also the guy who will do refurbish of the wheels says that these pressure sensors might cause the problem as it is sometimes impossible to take them out, especially if it is a one piece sensor (there is also a 2 piece sensor) which needs to be cut if it is seized. I have no idea if I have a one or a two piece sensors. Does anyone knows it? Cheers

Hi Luigi, thanks for a reply. If it is that easy than I am happy, as I said I am not sure how the system works, I guess time will tell. I am also planning to refurb the wheel and after that who knows which pressure sensor goes where! 😉 I was under impression that you need to code the sensor in to a particular side of the car. I do not have 2 sets of wheels, in Scotland you do not need (not a requirement) that but I have all season tyres which do just fine.

Hi all, I am planning to rotate allow wheels (not just the tyres) so that thread usage is more equal on all 4 tyres, the question is, how will Tyre Pressure Sensors will react to it? Does anyone know if they are coded in to a particular position on the car i.e front left or rear right? Any thoughts? Thanks

Another advice, I knew what sensor was causing an issue by checking them visually, well, the garage I bought it from told me they put in a new sensor but I didn't know which one, so a visual check actually told me which one it was as it is a different colour to other three. I took the car to Lexus garage to code the sensor in and it cost about £100, luckily the garage (the one I bought the car from) agreed to pay, the price would be higher if I didn't know what sensor was faulty, well, it is according to Lexus garage as would need to check every wheel and every sensor which takes time and money!

The sensor could be damaged during tyres re-fitting! When I bought the car, the garage swapped tyres (rear ones) and sheared off one of the sensors. Not a problem, they bought a new sensor and fitted it. The problem was that they never introduced the sensor to the car and my light was always on and could not be re-set, I took the car to Lexus garage and they fixed it. So, if you have a new sensor, may be it was not fit properly and you need some coding or you have an old sensor with dead battery.

I have Goodyears 4 season, Gen 2 on my GS, very happy with them, comfy and quite, also gives me a bit of more assurance if we get the snow. I also find them very good when it is pouring rain. I am thinking to get these for my wifes BMW, just to get rid of noise and harsh Run Flats.
