My new GS

You have to agree then John, the car looks nice, huh? 😉 I am looking forward to see one of these in UK. I have to agree with that, I think it doesn't sell in good numbers. I am wandering, does ES sell more thsn GS used to in good years? I doubt that. ES is not a bad car, I am still drive one though, if you want somehting reliable and with good customer service and very lethargic to drive ES is the car for you. I still think they are beatiful cars! -

Thats a hefty bill to pay, luckily you have a warranty! I think this is first time I hear that MK4 has leaking shocks! Any idea why? Just age, wear and tear? Also, why would transmission oil pump fail? After issues like above you think rear discs and pads is just a drop in the ocean! 🙂 I need to call Lexus and find out when is mine Battery check, who knows what else they might find while at it! 😞 -
John, I am just passing a message here, search on internet this is what he has been told by sales guy. I never looked into ES wheels so not sure if they used to come with 17" wheels, I guess on some other markets around the world they should be using this size on cheaper versions, may be this is UK that do not have 17" on ES, I do not really care tbh. The car was on Dunlop tyres, I think friend of mine will put on CrossClimates at some point which will make car quiter and softer. He likes his comfort, for the last 5 years he drives Saab 9000 from 1997 on 15" wheels if I am not mistaken! 🙂

Have you tried carmats4u.com? I bought 2 sets of mats from them, one for GS and one for my wife's BMW, decent price and very good quality!
-
Friend of mine asked if they can put on a 17" wheels on the car (for additional price, like a winter wheels set) and sale guy said ES do not come (may be for UK market) with 17inch and suggested internet to find a set of 17" wheels! But the ride would be much softer on smaller wheels.

Hello and Welcome! The car looks very nice though! How is the ride on such low suspension?!
-
Welcome! Congratulations! Good friend of mine put an order last week for ES as well Which trim did you go for? He test drove F-sport and hate it, he said the suspension was really crushy, noisy and harsh so he went for normal suspension. He really liked interior quality though and connection between the engine and gearbox, very smooth!

I think GS is roomier in the back seats, I sat once in ES in one of the garages and being 1.8m height I was almost touching the roof of the ES and nothing like that in my GS, may be a leg room a little better in ES though. I also think the material quality is better on GS, mainly on dashboard. ES will be more economical, also it might have a bigger boot. You are right, technology is more up to date on ES but I can't think of anything that will prove that, anything in particular, media display, do not think so. I love how ES looks from the outside but prefer the design of the dashboard on GS. As @rich1068 said, RWD vs FWD is the main difference. Friend of mine is taking one (ES) for a test drive on Saturday, i am expecting a full report from him! 🙂

I received my ceramic coating bottle (Avalon King) so last week, when the weather was good I washed the car, removed the tar, clay bar it and polished using DA polisher, all have been done so I could apply ceramic coating. I can't say that the car looks great after coating has been applied, I think after good polish and wax application that car looks nicer and you have that wet look but hydrophobic properties of the ceramic are impressive! It took me couple evenings to prep the car, wrt applying the coating it was really easy. So I hope it will last a while and also will protect my paint job better than a wax. 20210426_180531.mp4

It does need to be used more Malc, short trips to shops do not help to fix the issue and remove the corrosion, or I need to drive like a lunatic to engage rear brakes! 🙂
-
@steve2006 dry garage makes the big difference.
-
I do clean and lubricate my calipers twice a year and did not notice any issues with brake cylinders or calipers themselfs. Just discs pitted and corroded around the circumference.
-
I will. I am still thinking if I need to do that as I still have so much different polishes, scratch removers and waxes! Ceramic coating is like totally different field that uses totally different products, as far as I know. So I am dubious at the moment but the thing was ordered! 🙂 I am getting a new (new to me, not brand new!) motorbike hopefully this week so ceramic coating first will go on it!

Hey Frank, welcome to LOC! Good to see another BMW owner in here, well, I was one until I bought a Lexus almost 3 years ago! 🙂

I am resurrecting this thread, which is 18 years old!!! How do you people deal with rear corroded discs? I do not drive much (for the last year) and they look rusty and heavily pitted, every 1-2 weeks I do couple emergency stops to clear the discs but not to much avail. At the moment Lexus Direct parts have a good deal on a full rear set but will they not corrode as much and as easy without being properly used? Or better wait for now and swap old ones to a new ones when we all go back to normal? I do brake maintenance twice a year but prevent corrosion of the discs is beyond my power. The brakes on my wifes car look pretty evenly used and clean, front and rear, fair enough she is not driving a hybrid and we drive her car a bit more often but still no sign of corrosion.

Well done to police!
