My new GS
Vlady replied to Shahpor's topic in Lexus GS 300 / Lexus GS 250 / Lexus GS 430 / Lexus GS 450h / Lexus GS 460 Club
No Way! No way! -
I used Chips Away and was not impressed, had to come back to them twice to fix it properly and 2 years later the paint was flaking off the bumper and the bonnet, so I would stay away from them.
-
You can see from the photo above that the discs at the back were very corroded and doesn't look like pad was having a good contact with the disc, no idea why. I measured the thickness of the disc it was 21mm (new ones 22mm), the pads were changed about 10k miles ago and still have plenty meat in them but with new discs I went with the new pads too.

Rear ones are more complicated than I thought due to hand brake pads plus both callipers needed a good cleaning, again! 🙂 I do not know if this is normal, especially on suspension, I doubt it is the way it should be, would be good to see other Lexuses. I think mine has more than normal rust underneath but I have nothing to compare it with and Lexus garage never commented on it.

Hello and Welcome to LOC Walled! If everything on the car works then don't do anything just enjoy it! 🙂 Why Lexus? Why IS? We like photos too when you get a chance. Stay Safe!

Hi Kuba, good to hear that you like the GS! I am not sure you can tow in hybrid GS, someone on the forum will tell you to check the Manual but I hope other someone will answer with the proper answer. 🙂 Something tells me that in the manual it says do not tow or the towing weight is very low, can't remember!

Hi Kuba, welcome to LOC! Good choice in cars! Why Lexus? photos are welcome too! 😉

In HJ today; What do we think of this answer?

Couldn't agree more, cat theft is one of the main reasons I might not consider Lexus (hybrid) in a future, unless I can be proven that cats are hidden in the engine compartments so thieves can't get to them!

Agree with @royoftherovers - the answer is a total rubbish! I have nothing against Hondas (apart from cheaper interior compared to Lexus) but the buyer clearly said he doesn't want anything with low-seat position i.e saloons, hatchbacks! Why would you suggest Civic? This should be at least CR-V! Sounds like the guy (advisor) never seen a Civic but have read somewhere that it is reliable and economical choice! wrt to RX450h, it would be bulletproof motoring but the running cost will be higher than CR-V for example, I think. -
I can't believe it! I never met Britprius but saw a lot of his advices/comments in here, poor family of his and our big loss! RIP John!

I am surprised to see a Japanese car with the rust, you can see so many old Toyotas and Hondas and no rust on them. I am not surprised to see rust on Lexus though, I am very surprised it is not appearing more in threads in this forum. On my GS I had to clean some rust under the body and respray it, also some rear frame heavily flaked and rusted surface, clamps, suspension arm/links or like that. Shocking!

Welcome to LOC Giles, I find the LOC very friendly and informative, you probably know that by now. The car looks really nice and clean, goof choice there. I am intersted why you choose Lexus as a brand? What was your car before? I came from BMW so always (as all in here know) curious why other people decide to go with Lexus. Will the car be your daily driver? -
Hi Mary, welcome to LOC. I didn't find anyone who specialise on Lexus in Glasgow area, never looked at Toyota ones tbh. If your car 2020 why don't you take to a dealeship, it should be under warranty. Sorry, not a helpful answer here.

I noticed that on my first drive too, I told about it to the garage I bought the car from and after checking MOT history which said that the front left calliper was sticking a bit the garage agreed to look at it. They probably did look at it as the car was not too bad when I picked it up but it wasn't linear on the road as BMW was. I cleaned then brakes myself (helped a little), took it to Lexus to wheel alignment and even changed tyres but I still have now and then when the car follows the camber of the road, it does a little bit more to the left for some reasons. I just know it does it (rarely) and stop paying attention to it but I still do brake cleaning twice a year. Vlad

Does anyone know where I can find any information on a minimum rear brake discs thickness? Premier Model I have with rear ones being 310x22mm. I plan to skim them if the thickness allow it. John, I have checked the manual and didn't find any information on it. 🙂

Congratulations! What mileage does it have and what colour? I moved myself (3 years ago exactly) from BMW 5 series with 3ltr diesel. No regrets! Only on motorway you can see the diesel benefits, in town or short trips 3ltr diesel won't give you great mpg. So what were your thoughts during test drive? How di you find a gearbox in Lexus? Tbh, when I drive my wifes BMW now I hate feeling changes while the in town, Lexus is so smooth! Now as a driver car as BMW but your F-Sport should be not far away, my Premier model is like a barge and hates to be pushed but still can go really fast! When are you getting the car? Remember to attach photos of your new toy! Stay Safe Vlad

I am in love! Beautiful estate! -
Thanks Colin, I will read that through! You are right, they almost know nothing about it Colin. The guy heard something about it but he was not sure when it will be available in Scotland. I need to do Hybread Health Check in 2 months, by then he thinks they will have more information about it. He also said that Edinburgh Lexus compund/garage was targeted i.e new cars had been attacked and catalytic converters stolen, 8 or 9 cars!
