  1. No, i doubt you can disable it and not have some warnings light on the dash Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. They look like standard wheels but in a different colour Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I was mooching though eBay today and saw this..... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-2013-19-VLite-CarPlay-iPhone-Android-Mirroring-Bluetooth-Camera-Kit-LEX89/183837945031?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D5b35ee85c3854417b3632474f2800d76%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D333281955558%26itm%3D183837945031%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2481888&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A7d00121a-d4b0-11e9-b12e-74dbd180ef2f|parentrq%3A21230ee116d0a4b7b6be0706ffb54ee7|iid%3A1 Now having used CarPlay in the past and been quite impressed with it i'm quite interested to see if anyone else has tried this kind of equipment in the past and how they got on with it. Its a uk supplier so I have a little more faith in their post purchase support than buying from some random Far Eastern company.
  4. And to make it worse some of the same parts are used on the Prius as they are on the IS300h I’ve had this in the past, the Lexus department refused to look at it[emoji35], my friendly Toyota service dept told me to bring the part in, they then processed the warranty but assigned it to a Toyota [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Don’t dismiss your tyres, I’ve had this a few times in the past, easy way to find out is to rotate the tyres front to back and see if the noise moves or stays Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I had a 9-3 with the 6 speed GM auto box in it, the process was the same for that, you had to do 3 maybe 4 changes in quick succession in order to have cleaner oil in it. Funnily enough I found 3 litres of the GM oil in my garage when I was getting the oils together for the diff oil change Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Very brown/red, pretty typical of a car that has done that mileage Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Finally got round to changing the gearbox oil yesterday. Not a difficult job, however trying to get the car in the air and level without a workshop ramp made it a little challenging. Using a combination of ramps, trolley jacks and axle stands i managed to get the car in the air. I had measured the distance between the top of the wheel arch and the floor when on the floor, the front wheel arch sits lower than the rear so I need to keep that difference when the car was in the air. Finally got there, not quite level, ended up with a difference of 3 cms between front and back with the back being higher. I had put the car more over to the left of the garage as nearly all my work was on the right hand side of the car (drivers side in the uk). Protecting the gearbox is a plastic cover, this is held in with 4x10mm headed screws and 2x10mm headed nuts that are on the rear of the cover. In order to remove the plastic cover there is a metal A bracket in the way that is held on with 4x14mm headed bolts, one on each chassis leg marked in red and two on the central front jack mount, these need to be undone. There is also a plastic 13mm nut that holds the bracket in place on that central jack mount, do not undo this. Once these 4x14 mm bolts are undone the metal bracket will move around so as the plastic shield can be removed. On the plastic shield there are a series of expanding clips, don’t remove them, these hold on the soundproofing. Once the cover is removed there is access to the refill and sump plugs, remember never undo the sump plug before checking the refill plug will undo. They are both 14mm headed. Lexus say the gearbox capacity is 3.8L. Experience of doing Prius gearboxes has taught me that you will never remove that all the fluid though, this is because there is a cooler built into the radiator and so some of the transmission oil will be in the rad and in the cooler pipes. Also with the way I had set the Lexus up because of my height difference front to back I knew that I would drain even less. I managed to drain just over 2.3L though. Using a hand pump I then put the same quantity back into the gearbox Once I had the fluid in it was a case of putting it all back together. Total time to do was about 2 hours, with the majority of that being getting the car in to the air. As I have said earlier next time I will rent a ramp for a few hours and do it that way, it would be so much simpler. Can I feel the difference? No, but I know its been done and if it prolongs the life of the outbox then it was worth the work involved.
  9. I can't find the PDFs that you're talking about. On the SD card there is a series of numbers, 2 sets of 5 digit numbers, they may help you define which version you have. Personally I believe it's either of the first two on the PDFs as they are the only ones that are SD based map systems Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. Thanks for that, I’m going to print that off and keep it in the garage Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. You’ve summed it up well, mine is a love/hate relationship. The boot is about 6 inches too narrow is my only other niggle with the car, aside from that I love it, it’s individual, good looking, total reliability and very economical. And for all of that I speak really highly of the the Lexus product. The dealers however [emoji17] no!! I had forgotten about the Services belt, I need to check that, thanks for the reminder [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I can't believe its been nearly 5 months since I last updated..... So, firstly this happened in April its been service work over the last few months that's been carried out, as ever the IS does its thing well, customers comment on how smooth it is and how smart the interior looks. I still chuckle when I get MPG figures like this on a run to London from Plymouth....... Currently its now sat at 118,500. The only niggle have ever had with the IS has been the lack of spare wheel. This was reinforced when I caught a kerb a few weeks ago and gashed the sidewall of the tyre, the Lexus repair kit would have been useless there and I had to limp the car about 3/4 of a mile up the road to a tyre centre. I know that there are space constraints and that's one of the reasons for not having a spare, but its still something that haunts me and is one of the downsides to Lexus ownership. About 3 months ago I needed new pads fitting to the car, being low on available time to get them done I asked a local garage to do them for me as I didn't have time to get in the garage and do it myself, how I regret this..... Over the last few weeks I have noticed a brake wobble that's been getting progressively worse as time has gone on, the discs were only fitted last July so I was a little surprised to find the discs were warped. Whilst I do a lot of mileage I don't make a habit of hammering the brakes and the last time I warped a set of discs was about 30 years ago on a old ford whose discs were as thin as wafers. This week I bit the bullet and decided to fit new discs and pads, however I didnt use genuine parts. Some would say a little over the top, however I have used EBC items on other cars and find they give off little brake dust and the discs have an excellent wear rate, and they look nicer than standard discs as well 😉 This should be an easy job was my first thought, an hour or 2 and we should be back on the road with new brake bling installed. oh how wrong was I 😞 When the car went in last time I was clear to the garage, check the sliders and if there are any issues let me know and get them sorted. The sliders were seized solid, as a result the pads are binding on the disc and the thinking is this is what's been partially responsible for the warping of the discs. the other contributing factor would have been some idiot who decided to visit lane 3 of the M4 whilst I was doing 80mph, however he wasn't 😳 so they went from being warm to very hot quite quickly, and the air went very blue in the car as well. But that wasn't the worse of the shoddiness.... These are the bolts that hold the calliper carrier to the hub, I remember some comment when I picked the car up about having to remove the carriers, im guessing to un-seize the sliders, both of them have damaged thread and as a result There is next to bugger all thread left on the carrier and the bolt no longer does up tightly, it just spins and spins 🤬 and this is why I don't trust garages, its a total bodge, and im guessing they knew something was amiss because one of the bolts was full of thread lock. this was Monday, a few phone calls to Lexus and a parts supplier have got me the new carrier bolts, a new carrier as well as a slider kit for the other carrier. At the same time I bought 4ltrs of WS fluid and all the washers needed for the sump plug and refill plug, that's a job for when I get back off holiday. Next jobs (end of August) will be the gearbox fluid change, diff fluid change, anti freeze and inverter fluid change and a 120,000 mile service which will include the plugs as well so far I have done about 60,000 miles in 18 months and have averaged 49mpg in real terms. Servicing is still the biggest cost and this issue with the calliper carrier has been the only non-scheduled day off work due to item failure (faulty workmanship). Ive used Continental tyres and have been getting about 27,000 miles out of them, which at £75 isn't bad value in my eyes. The cabin is still nice and rattle free, I feel the set cushion on my seat is losing its firmness, im only 14 stone so am a bit surprised by that, when I hoover the car ive noticed bits of foam under the drivers seat Currently i'm still having a battle with Lexus to sort out the rust on the chassis leg of the car, I posted about it here Lexus GB are now having another look at this since it was picked up as an advisory on my MOT, needless to say I was not impressed when Lexus first refused to deal with it however they had a change of heart when I went back to them with the MOT information. I can't complain about the car, according to auto trader its still worth about 10K, and that would be achievable if the bumper and bonnet and repainted and the stonechips dealt with.
  13. Interesting how people rave about Lexus customer service, personally that’s the reason I won’t buy another Lexus. I was looking to trade the IS300h in for a GS300h later this year, after destining with Lexus customer services directly and the dealers in Devon I sadly won’t. And strangely when I talk to the Toyota guys (who are on the same site) they have a totally different attitude, and always have done. However there isn’t a Toyota that will offer the space or “prestige” (I’ll use that term loosely) sadly So it looks like M/Benz or BMW for me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. This is about as good as I’m ever going to get it..... Torquay to London (225 miles), 3 adults and air con on all the way Even allowing for a 10% discrepancy that’s still 54mpg which I consider to be bloody excellent Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Yes the basic design of the filter housings is the same, however the 300h has a filter drain plug that allows you to drain the filter housing before loosening it, quite a handy thing. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. Has the connector snapped into place? My overheating message wouldn't go away because I didn't have the fan properly reconnected, it worked but some of the pins weren't seated properly. Took it all apart, reseated the connector and then tried it again, this time it worked and the message disappeared...phew Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. The only thing I did was to make up some clear vinyl body protectors that sit between the mudflap and body, that way the mudflap can't damage the paintwork Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. I’m using this one.... https://www.amazon.co.uk/SODIAL-Filter-Wrench-Removal-Corrola/dp/B0752F4L21/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=lexus+oil+filter+removal+tool&qid=1563726149&s=gateway&sprefix=lexus+oil+filter+&sr=8-4 It works effectively and was cheap Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I was wondering if someone had figured a way of circumventing the pop up system, it was only a matter of time Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. It will be things like this that will write off cars that are a little more than 5 years old. Technology is great, but it comes at a price Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I’m going back many years ago but as a dealer we did retain a car that was not fit for the road. Brought in for service it required 4 tyres and discs and pads all round and a callipers, the tyres were down to the canvas and the pads were down to the metal, on one it was so bad the calliper had seized. Customer refused our quote and said we were making jobs up, the workshop manager then stepped in and advised the vehicle was unfit for the road and refused to give the keys back or allow the customer access to the workshop. Customer then phoned the police, they rocked up and we showed them the car. They agreed that we were right to retain but if the customer arranges for the car to be transported off the premises then we have to oblige. Car was trailered off-site. A week later he was involved in a fatal accident, only he was involved. We never knew if he replaced the parts, but given the accident I wouldn’t be surprised if he had not bothered Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. The bonnet panel itself will be able to be reused. However the hinges and the pop up system will have to be replaced and I believe the car has to be coded via techstream as well. I would be speaking to a reputable body shop if I were you to see if they can offer any advice Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. If you were local I would say pop round and I’ll do it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. What!!!!! The accessories circuits are normal 12v, if they are trying to wire it into the hybrid circuit or believe that the car is rated at 200+volts then I would ask them to step away from their tools and stop calling themselves fitters. My nextbase is hardwired into my 300h with no issue at all Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Hi and welcome to 300h ownership. If you leave the car in N with the ignition on it will discharge the traction battery. If you are parking up, even for a short period then leave the car in P, that way if the traction battery discharges the engine will cut in and recharge it. Hope that helps a little Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
