  1. There’s a lot more to it than that. This was discussed in another thread a while back, the German car companies are still riding of the back of very successful marketing campaigns that go back to the 80’s and 90’s. To be honest I’m not sure I would like Lexus seen In The same light as the German stuff, part of the reason I bought it was because it didn’t have the reputation that the German cars do (or should I say their drivers) Lexus are aiming their designs at the US market, that fact they enjoy success in the UK is a matter of convenience. Yes when they launched back in the 90’s we were one of the desirable markets but the US yields so much more profit than the UK market. That’s why the Lexus range is so SUV heavy and sadly that won’t change Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Im not familiar with the RX, but in the IS select Audio and you should get a list of sources, some will be greyed out of there is nothing connected but USB1 and USB2 should be there
  3. I had national windscreens replace mine last week. Gave them the reg number and they had the correct screen supplied, and it was a genuine one as well [emoji106] Don’t forget to get new wipers when you have your screen done Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. If the battery is depleted then the engine has the work harder to : A) recharge the battery B) power the car. Without looking at the battery monitor I can tell if the battery it low whilst driving as the engine is working harder in order to push that car forward, the also feels like more slippage from the transmission as well. I’ve had 5 hybrids now, done close to 600,000 miles in them and never encountered a battery fail. I’m no expert on battery technology but I know what works for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Ok, I have been using hybrids now for 10 years, my first car was a 2004 Prius, when I bought it the mileage was 114,000 when I sold it I was up about the 235,000 mark. Today, it’s mileage is 330,000 miles, I know the owner, he bought it to use as a taxi, ran it for 6 months and then upgraded, he handed this one to his daughter who uses it for town running. It has never had any replacement battery cells, nor has the transmission given any issues, the car is 15 years old now and the owner does admit he doesn’t get the battery performance that he used to he is still getting mid to late 40’s out of it. I have never had to do anything to the batteries on any of my hybrids, IMO they will easily last the life of the vehicle Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. My 64 plate IS300h is at about 125,000 miles now and still going strong. Mine is a taxi as well, it’s quiet, comfortable, the passengers love it and it’s far cheaper and far more reliable than say an insignia/mondeo/octavia. I have run hybrids now for about 10 years as taxis, over the 5 of them that I’ve had I’m at close to 600,000 miles and to date I have never had a serious mechanical or electrical failure. Would I go back to a “normal” car for taxi work............never Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I was sat having my coffee when one pulled in today, without being too obvious I tried to get a picture for comparison Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I hardly ever run my IS to full depleted, I seldom run it below 50% and most of the time it is about 70-80%, and I am averaging 50mpg around town. Depleting the battery means the engine then has to kick in to recharge it, thus costing you mpg. I do agree about eco mode, mine lives on that when in town/A roads, on a run I switch to normal, especially on motorways Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. If this is your first hybrid then it can take time to get to the 40s+ figure. I’ve been driving them for about 7 years now, it took me about 6 months the become a little smoother and get the figures I was happy with. I build my speed rather than accelerate and then cruise. As soon as I’m heading downhill at a speed I am happy with I am off the throttle and coasting/recharging. I find I am thinking about how I drive a little more, looking at the lights/traffic ahead and trying to keep it as smooth as possible, that sometimes means I’m not a quick as I used to be. On a long run I’m sat at 75mph with the cruise control on where suitable. However I’m getting early 50’s mpg around town and close to 60mpg on a run. Stick with it, you will see your figures climb [emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. It’s taxed and motd, wonder if someone has fallen ill at work as so has had a prolonged period off work without needing the car Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. After encountering loads of problems with screen flickering and finding that their technical support are good at sending out firmware update but very little else I decided to send my Vline unit back. In a week they send me a number of firmware, it ended up with only a 1/3 of the screen working and it being totally unusable. Sad really because the concept is pretty good, just badly supported by its own tech support Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. After asking the eBay seller a few questions I decided to take a punt and buy one. The seller has been really helpful, always coming back to me quickly and getting the parcel out to me overnight as well. In the box you get the control unit, a small box about 6”x6”, two custom looms to plug into the current wiring and an additional loom for some extras that you can install later. Installation was pretty easy, took about 2 hour as I was taking my time, it is literally plug and play and the instructions are very clear as well. Got it all fitted, fired it up and found it had an irritating screen flicker, every 30 seconds the screen would click on and off, pinged an email to the seller who told me I needed to deal with technical support for the manufacturer (Grom) Pinged them an email, now because they are US based they seem to be almost the opposite time zone from me, this means that trying to get this issue solved became a bit prolonged, but at least there wasn’t a language barrier that you sometimes get with offshore support. So a week later and 3 firmware flashes the system is sadly being pulled out of the car and sent back for a refund, every time they give me a new firmware the problem gets worse, to the point where I only have 1/3rd of the screen working when I’m using the Grom system, luckily I have been able to resort back to OEM without any issues. It’s a real shame as it was pretty good value and easy to fit and use, had it worked and the tech guys hadn’t really messed it up then I believe it had the potential to be a good system. 13. That’s going the be the next purchase, just waiting for them to come down in price a little more into my budget [emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. In our house we have the IS and a 5 series, the IS is my daily and the BM is the wife’s. I prefer the IS, it’s a nicer place to be, better equipped and way more powerful and economical that her 525d However she doesn’t like the lexus for a few reasons, one is the seats, bless her she is broader across the beam than me [emoji6] and she finds the seat bolsters uncomfortable and the fact that the cabin is a little cosier (in her words claustrophobic) Many years ago the German car brands were massive in their marketing, and they were clever, they marketed to the aspiring generation, who today are us, back in the 80’s we were hit with adverts that claimed reliability, build quality, sexiness and masculinity, today they are still riding on those campaigns, but they don’t have to do so much as the seed has not only been seen but it has germinated. Today the German cars are not reliable, sexy, or have a superior build quality, but it doesn’t matter, the money spent 40 years ago is still bearing fruits today Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I don’t think the differing wheel size was the key reason for space savers,
  16. So it sounds like they have greased the backs of the pads, where they make contact with the piston and calliper, this normally cures the issue. The face that 50 miles later the noise it back makes me think that your calliper sliders are starting to seize, Toyota/Lexus are notorious for this, even low mileage vehicles. If the slider is seizing then the pad isn't moving away from the disc enough when the brake is released, a slider repair kit is about £15 per side (APEC kits) plus the cost of labour. From experience if your doing one side you may as well do both.
  17. I recall it from my days in the trade when space savers first appeared, and the reason for it is because of the difference of rolling radius and the effects it can have on the handling/steering of the vehicle. if the space saver is smaller RR then it will cause a pull to whatever side the wheel is fitted to. Having looked on the AA website there is some info on it So there is no right and wrong answer, personally I would have it on the rear of car so as not to affect the handling adversely
  18. I was of the impression that space savers shouldn’t be used in the front, if you have a puncture on the front you move a rear to the front, and put the space saver on the rear Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Yes, I’ve had it, I hadn’t put enough pad lube on, after about 20k miles it had dried out and just needed redoing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. My guess is brake pads, they may need a dab of grease on the back of them to get rid of the squeak. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Mines giving me as good mpg now as it was at 60k, and from my experience of the Prius it will only lose about 5% at 200k But also the car still feels tight as well, no rattles or squeaks and the interior is standing up well to the punishment of taxi work Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Mine is used as a taxi, hence the mega mileage. I’ll trade it in at about 200/250,000 miles Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I bought my IS300h about 18 months ago with 59,000 miles on it and paid 14k. Today it has 121,000 miles on it and looking at eBay/auto trader and wbac the general opinion is a value of 10k, which I think is excellent as it works out at £222 per month Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I was hoping for 50 [emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Added a bit of bling today....... I was given these a while back, however I have a feeling they are for a CT200 as the throttle pedal is too small. The other 3 were quite easy to fit, however I’m on the hunt for a ali throttle pedal from something like an Fsport Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
