  1. How old is your Lexus? What sort of milage has it covered? I wonder if the dealer is just wanting to do an annual health check on your car Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. A hybrid system recall or hybrid health check? I haven’t heard anything about Lexus doing a recall on the hybrid system, but that’s not to say there isn’t one out there just maybe not that well publicised Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. My 63 plate IS300H has suffered seized sliders recently. Sadly because of the mileage I have done (140,000 miles) Lexus would not be interested in mine. As an aside my rears are starting to stick so I have bought a set of used callipers from eBay that I am now overhauling to put on mine soon. Sadly Toyota have a terrible reputation for sticking callipers, especially the rears Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I’ve had this on a another car that are used to own, was a real pain in the backside. The only way that we effectively remedied it was to take the headlights off the car strip out all the bulbs and with a hairdryer gently blow heat into the headlight unit until it dries out. We had a dry we then Benson time making sure that all of the seals were good and that there was little chance of any further condensation creeping into the headlights. The only other alternative is as you have said to buy replacement headlights and even secondhand they are quite dear Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I’ve done it, not easy as you have to get the car up in the air and level. It’s easy if you have a pit or a 2/4 poster ramp but if your on axle stands then it can be a ball ache getting the car up and then level. The oil change itself is a doddle, there’s a drain and a fill bung. Always make sure the fill bung will undo before undoing the drain bung [emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. They will physically fit, I have no doubt that the wiring will need to be amended though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Having had a couple of Prius in the past one of the more common issues I have come across with high mileage engines is rough running on start up when the ambient temp is low. Today on start up my IS300H started displaying the same symptoms. The cause is oil in the inlet manifold, on the Prius it was because of the crankcase venting system. So I pulled the tubing that runs from the air box to the throttle body off, opened up the throttle flap and this is what I found So first job will be to clean out the egr cooler next weekend, my feeling is that it will be pretty blocked as this plays a part in the whole breather system, from there I may need to look at fitting an oil catch tank if this doesn’t resolve the issue My IS has covered about 138,000 miles now and looks like now it will need similar remedial treatment that the Prius used to need Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I have had 3 Prius and now on my IS300h All of them had transmission fluid changed every 100k and none of them had any failures. My oldest Prius is now 16 and has done 340,000 miles with no major mechanical issues, my IS is just approaching 140,000 miles and drives like new. I recommend changing the fluid, no fluid will last more than 100k and still give optimum lubrication Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Nowhere in my post did I call the IS a performance car. Nor did I use the 530d as a benchmark for all other cars, I was merely comparing that with the IS and also underlining the fact the quoted post talked about how little they knew about the IS that they drove once a week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. 6 years isn’t bad from one of those batteries, I’m waiting for mine to start giving issues. One way I used to be able to tell on the Prius was the traction battery used to discharge quicker when the 12v was on its way out, did you notice that with your IS? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Like the guy said, he drives it once a week to fill up....... I would be more interested in what his wife says about the way the car handles. IMO the guy clearly hadnt played about with the car, I can show my wife a clean pair of heels on a twisty A road and she doesn’t drive her 530d like miss daisy!! The IS does handle really well, and it will pull very well when required, you just have to know which knobs to turn Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Welcome B80, I have a BMW and an IS300h and will drive the IS over the BM everyday of the week. More nimble, sharper handling, a more comfortable driving position and seats and overall just a nicer experience. I have a 530d with the Msport kit on it, it looks nice but I dread it going in for a service because they seem to cost so much as well. The BM may be a slight bit faster due to being turbocharged but that’s one of the few upsides. Sadly modding the IS for more power isn’t really an option, they are not tuneable in the way a petrol or Diesel engine is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Depends on how you drive it and how many miles you do freewheeling. Mine is daily, but don’t let that worry you, I go down some pretty long hills and cover 250+ miles a day Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I had a friend who works for a denso outlet cross refer the Lexus part to the 20TT ones Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. They are recommended by denso, they are a direct cross reference in their parts catalogue and I have run mine for 60,000 miles with no issues at all. Yes they are a third of the price of OE plugs, I have put that down to Lexus markup on their parts Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. The change interval is 60,000 miles Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I have used IKBH20TT plugs now for over 85,000 miles and have had no issues with them. According to Denso they are a direct replacement to the FK20HBR80 plugs but the FK20HBR80 part number is a part number for Lexus branded plugs where the IKBH20TT is a denso branded item. 18. In order to understand how the Toyota and Lexus system works you have to almost forget that it is a form of electric vehicle. The motor supports the engine, therefore reducing the load on the engine and decreasing the fuel consumption, the engine supports the motor/battery by being able to recharge the batteries whilst on the move. Yes, the vehicle is able to run standalone EV but for a very short distance, around town it has excellent fuel economy because of the fact that the engine is not being used 100% of the time. On a longer run using motorways and fast a roads the engine is being supported by the motor, and because the motor isn’t running at full load this means with some careful driving you can get some very good mpg figures. I’ve always seen these hybrids as a way of improving your urban fuel consumption and getting almost diesel like fuel consumption on a long run but without having to get involved with diesels and turbodiesels. Around town I can average 45-49 mpg without any effort at all, drive it like miss daisy and 50-55mpg is very achieveable. On a run of say 400-600 miles at 75 mph with a couple of adults and the A/C on I can regularly see 55mph and higher Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. My IS300h is sat at 131,000 miles and racking up about 45k a year as a taxi, to date I have had zero hybrid/battery issues with mine and really done expect to either this side of 200k. I have run a number of Prius before the 300h and none of them gave me any hybrid issues neither, collectively I have done about 400k on hybrids and had nothing but total reliability out of them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. If you quickly spray the screen and the wipers don’t activate, you have to do it manually which seems a bit odd. If you hold the spray for a second or two then the wipers activate and sweep three or four times, they then wait a few seconds and do one more sweep Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. It was only a matter of time before the ministry caught up with the cheats and found ways of flushing them out. One man testing rigs have been about for a while now, big money as you have said, that’s £100k plus they have spent on that, hope they have a steady stream of not business Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Auto lights aren’t controlled by anything on the windscreen, the sensor for the lights is on the dashboard on the passenger side. They haven’t switched the auto lights off have they? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. You can’t deliberately run down a traction battery to zero, on the display it will show 10 or 20% but in reality the battery will be holding more than that. Conversely when the display reads 100% it isn’t fully charged When the display reads 20% the engine will kick in and start recharging so as keep the 12v system running, that’s why if the 12v battery is dying the traction battery will cycle from full to empty frequently and a lot quicker than normal. The reason being the traction battery will be topping up a battery with faulty cells. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Same as before, this was done as an emergency as I didn’t have a lot of time, I’ve got a GoPro now so I’m going to run through it and put it on you tube Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Over the last week or so my MPG has dropped like a stone, I’ve been struggling to get 39mpg and that’s when I’ve been driving carefully, also the hybrid battery has been cycling from fully charged to discharged quite quickly, for my car this is quite unusual. I know the weather and outside temp can make a difference with MPG but it’s not been that cold, certainly not to have this much of an effect of consumption. From experience I had narrowed it down to two things 1) the 12v battery being dodgy 2) the hybrid fan filter. Having tested the 12v that was fine so I set about getting the bloody fan gauze filter out....... Yep, it was fluffed right up!! That’s only 25,000 miles worth of use as well. I cleaned it out with a hoover, put it all back together and took the car out for a run. No exaggeration it’s like driving a totally different car, fuel consumption within 10 miles has gone from an average of 39mpg to 45mpg and the hybrid battery feels a lot stronger, it doesn’t deplete as quickly.
