  1. What happens if you take out a service plan, and change your car (for another Lexus) mid term ?
  2. I can't really answer that one as it's not my car, but it wasn't freezing on Boxing day. I would have thought the aircon would have worked at any temperature, in order to clear misted windows. ? It seems not....Possibly a faulty thermostat ?
  3. Friends who visited us on Boxing day, have a problem with the air-con on their GS450h.(2012 I believe) It's blowing out air, but the air-con isn't doing anything. He is going to take it back to his dealer, where it had a full service a couple of months back, but I wondered if there is anything obvious he can look at in the meantime ?
  4. As I understand it, snow chains are only any good in snow (to state the obvious), and I would I assume restrict speed significantly. Snow tyres (as I understand it) are good in snow, but only start working at low temperatures. Stopping distance is reduced on dry roads. Unless you are living in the back of beyond, in the UK, even if we get snow the roads are usually cleared pretty quickly,
  5. These seem to be pretty standard extras, available on most makes of car. I've taken them in the past, but wouldn't again. As said, it mostly for the benefit of the salesman. If you do decide to take up any of their offers, it's worth haggling, as they are desperate for their bonus.
  6. I've had a similar thing happen to me on a couple of occasions, when we've had some cold weather overnight. The TPMS is extremely sensitive. My local service centre confirmed this, and said they'd had a lot of people call in, thinking they had a problem.
  7. Didn't the Legend also have 4 wheel steering, or was that one of the Accords ?
  8. Sorry, only just found this thread. My previous three cars were Hondas, Two Accords and a Civic Hybrid. All very good and reliable cars. I would have liked to have bought another Honda, but they no longer sell 4 door saloons with a boot, in the UK. Whereas in the US you can get the Accord and Civic hybrids. They never sold the Accord hybrid here.
  9. Possibly another device transmitting on the same frequency ? I think the technology has changed quite a bit over the years, but in previous years a lot of cars were affected by transmissions from radio links and amateur radio. I know that if I were transmitting on the 70cms band while driving, I would often set of car alarms. With everything being digital nowadays, I doubt this happens any more.
  10. My understanding is that you don't pay for the re-test if the garage that failed it is doing the work. Unless things have changed ?
  11. I have the same thing when pulling out of my driveway. I have only noticed it since increasing the tyre pressure to 36psi. It's not something which has given me any cause for concern.
  12. TPMS sensors can be ultra sensitive. Mine has come on twice when there has been a drop in temperature overnight.
  13. I've only used the paddles a couple of time to see what effect they had. Other than that, I forget they are there.
  14. If you listen to the old Beatles song "Taxman", a number of the "predictions" have come to pass. For instance.... If you get too cold we'll tax the heat ....This was from a time that top earners were paying tax at the rate of 19/6d in the pound. As an aside, many years ago it was said that all of the money spent on road building was more than covered by the road tax levied on HGVs alone.
  15. We dont use our is300 for any short trips, so it's nearly all dual carriageways and "A" roads. I haven't done a tank to tank check, but going by the computer display we are getting a steady 50.5 mpg.
  16. I doubt it's a cat ..
  17. I decided not to in the end. I was quoted around £600, and there was someone recommended to me who may have been able to do it cheaper, but he didn't get back to an email I sent. I manage without.
  18. Either duff battery or alternator. (?) Although many years ago I had a similar problem with an Audi 80. Everything started shutting down, including eventually the engine. It turned out the the earth braid from the alternator had corroded through.
  19. One of the reasons I bought a Lexus was because they have a service centre a 2 minute walk away. I also bought from a Lexus dealership via my local Toyota dealer. It's the most money we've ever spent on a car, and from the outset knew what the cost of ownership involved. The service centre will have a record of the car's history, and can advise of things which may need looking at, befor they become major problems. "You pays your money and you takes your choice".
  20. I've had heated front seats on a number of cars, but have only turned them on a couple of times to see if they work. Other than that, I never use them....
  21. Or maybe from the Prosecco wine lake, dumped in this country 😊
  22. OK I've obviously been doing it wrong for the last 50yrs 😊
  23. You need to keep the portable starters topped up, as when they've been used a few times, and you leave them without re charging, the battery might not take or hold a charge any more. The cheaper units tend to use cheapo batteries, to replace them with a decent battery will cost more than what you payed for the charger in the first place. That's my experience anyway.
  24. From my experience, when a water pump goes, it normally goes big time.
