Hopefully about to buy an IS-F
hockeyedwards replied to Rushingphil's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Greattt colour, prefer the other wheels ISFs come with personally 🤷♂️ but you aren't gonna go wrong with a Lexus 🙂 you'll find plenty of info on here about the car 😄 -

quite similar style to the stock rim, would you keep silver or colour change? -

Just the usual stuff, bumpier ride due to decreased tyre profile, more so to do with width changes, check clearance of fronts when full locking and on some designs making sure you can clear front calipers if dished wheels are your thing. Wheelbasealloys allows you to enter all your car info, i.e 2012 Lexus ISF and it should throw up all wheels it can get fitment for and then you can narrow the search with filters, such as OZ as the brand. When you go to order they will double check all your call details before sending the wheels to varify fitment. Any particular wheel in mind, just being nosey 😛 -

I used 'wheelbasealloys' for my LS and honestly couldn't fault the service and the wheel spec came perfect. Do you want 19s or 20s? Just checked pre-mentioned website and they have some OZ wheels suitable for the ISF 🙂 ISF standard wheels PCD 5X114.3 Front 19x8, Rear 19x8.5 or 9 (can't remember) Think std offset is 45 Maybe someone in the know can confirm or update that... but you can just adjust the offset accordingly if you go for wider wheels and if you decide to go for 20's, make sure you get a correct tyre size so the speedo doesn't have any large miscalculation (hard to do if you're sensible). Happy hunting 😄 -

Had my GSF for just shy of 3 years and I absolutely LOVE IT, I originally wanted an ISF but when I was finally at the stage to purchase one, I could afford a GSF which I did prefer. I have spent some of the queens pounds on a naughty boy exhaust and as Graham said above, whenever I get in and drive, I grin from ear to ear and don't really see that changing for the forseeable future. I love that only enthusiasts know what it is, I love that it is rare in the UK and I love that I can trust it'll still be putting smiles on my face well into 100k miles and beyond. Therefore, I plan to keep it until they petrol cars are completely illegal/ the car magically dies/ I die... 😂 I have the Mrs in an NX for dog and future children and I now have an LS400 to waft about in and currently looking at the GR Yaris for a 'run around' so I can keep miles off the F and use it for special occasions/ when I need some noise! P.S I do still have a thought in the back of my head to buy another one, but a low mileage example and leave it completely OEM and use my current one as a sleeper project for added fun...🤷♂️ -

What winter tyre do you use out of interest? -
Can't see in the pic but the piece of wood has Lexus written on it 😉 but I do have the struts, the Mrs has kindly misplaced them for me! Good spot, I will have a look in my box of bits to see if I have the moulding. Gonna have to have a clear out of parts at some point I've accumulated so much in such a short space of time! Also realised the battery is a Lion, so that'll be used as intended, a very large door stop... 😂

BRAKES/ discs warped,calipers? IDEAS?
hockeyedwards replied to AndrewLast's topic in New Members Area
Food for thought... Could have just been uneven pad material building up on the braking surface on the disc. Most discs are unlikely to actually be warped, new discs are even more unlikely as they haven't been through enough heat cycles. Were the calipers cleaned sufficiently after replacing the first set of pads or just whammed in without a decent clean out? I did my F's front pads and the calipers were full of old brake dust, clean the shims too and reapplied copper grease before putting in the new ones. Have you gone through any sort of bedding in process for the new pads? Unforunately I am not super in the know of the pad quality for the IS300h's and whether they require it or not? Also I am very sceptical of the suggestion 'change the calipers' - why? What is the diagnosis/ investigation that proves this is the problem? If you just start blanket replacing parts blindly you might 1) gain no insight into what the actual underlying problem was/ is and 2) develop unnecessarily deep pockets for something that could have been a simpler/ cheaper fix. Some times a little patience goes a long way and saves you some of the queens pounds! -
IS200's are great, we had one in the family when I was a little whipper snapper but i've never driven one personally. GS and LS are more 'comfy' in general realms. I recently purchased an LS400 and after some sprucing up and mechanical love it will become a daily driver, I have nicknamed it the 'land yacht' and on the very few trips I've made, it has been nothing short of comfy, even the Mrs who is not a car enthusiast was surprised that a mid 90s car could 'waft' around so well! Older cars will have there known gremlins, but the forums will put your right with what to look out for once you've narrowed it down.

BRAKES/ discs warped,calipers? IDEAS?

And how exactly 'warped' were the discs with these gauges? Also apologies for the repeat, but what are the symptoms you were experiencing... -

Had to giggle a bit as my dad has had many a discussion with 'mechanics' about how they 'know' discs are 'warped' and he made similar sentiments. I suspect though as mentioned above, if you have replaced both discs and pads, but the problem persists, it is not the pads or discs but rather something further up the chain. What are the symptoms that lead you to seek a mechanics opinion on your brakes? Might give some further clue as to what is the actual culprit. -
Finally got the HSD's installed, few swear words, penetrating fluid and many cups of tea required 😄 Think the front stance is spot on but rear might be a smidge too low, gonna let it settle for a week with a few trips up and down the street and then adjust accordingly! Got a new centre console, climate control unit and OEM intake and air box which once cleaned up will go on. Gotta see to the leaky power steering and shot AC condenser, which I also acquired from the same breaker!

Congrats and welcome to the best club 😉 I know the weather hasn't been the most photo friendly recently, but got any snaps of the car? 😄 -
Front facing Garmin 55W, I have pushed the cable up inside where head lining meets windscreen, down the front pillar, under my drivers side dash, unclipped the trim panel on the centre console drivers side and fed the cable behind and then ran it into the centre storage 12V. All neat and hidden. Dash cam is pretty good too, was on offer when I got it so was decent vlaue for money and I've had a lot of garmin products over the years and never had issue. Not the greatest picture, but it is all I had to hand, but you can just see the little copper ring on the drivers side up by rear view mirror 🙂

Well I balls'd up, forgot to retrieve my jack and stands from previous borrower... so I have kepyt myself busy, ordered and collected servicing parts, oil and pollen filter, alongside a chug load of oil for a change 😄 also i've managed to locate the names required to accurately search for the climate control bulbs that are prone to blowing, ordered a bunch of LED's from a UK site and just going to blanket replace them all. Still struggling to get the LED screen for the climate control unit. Busy week ahead, so probs not much to change until next weekend. Dark evenings are boring.
