Exactly, I've learned how to service brake calipers now 😄 -
Have a free laugh on me!
hockeyedwards replied to hockeyedwards's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
I've done plenty of minor absent minded things when chatting and repairing/ working on cars, but this is well and truly up there with the all time f-ups, going to blame it on having turned 30! 😆 -
Hello F-ers, prepare for a laugh on me 😄 I ordered new discs all around and upgrading rear pads to some EBC reds after being suitably impressed with the fronts. The discs arrived this week and I had allocated today to swap all the discs and rear pads out. Has been a while since I DIY'd anything car related and the last thing I worked on was my LS400 in Dec/ Jan. So please enjoy the timeline below of epic failures! All comments and jibes welcome, aside my knuckle and ego, no major damage... Jacked the car up, forgot to loosen wheel nuts first (idiot). For love nor money could then not find correct socket size (20 mins wasted) Had a cuppa tea to calm down... Got caliper bolts off without issue, knocked the pins out the caliper and removed old brake pads, winning! Gently tapped the disc with a mallet to 'persuade off', didn't budge. Forgot to take parking brake off (idiot x2), faffed around with auto handbrake feature as it kept putting it back on. Finally got it off and removed disc without issue. Somehow between taking old disc off and getting new disc out the box, handbrake re-engaged??? Now here's the topping to my crappy cake, with absolutely no thought to check anything, jumped in the car put my foot on the brake to start car and release handbrake, heard a big pop sound (ahhh ****) - I did not put anything inside the caliper I had taken off to stop pistons pushing out (pop sound), with fluid now weeing onto the floor and a caliper piston somehow caught by rear suspension components, I have a bigger problem... (idiot x3). Luckily no damage to piston or caliper, but to get the piston back into the caliper have to remove the 'dust shield' - watched a quick youtube video and it looked liked the easiest thing ever (wrong!), begin fight of my life - more tea required. Did not have any suitable tools so phoned a local friend who is an mobile autotec 'please help me', followed by mutual laughing were our first exchanged words before me explaining I'm an idiot (x4) 20 mins later my saviour arrived! He had a little pick tool that persuaded the dust shield out, eureka effortless... oh no **** I've poked a hole through it (idiot x5) So I have ordered a new one, 24H delivery and will have time to fit it on the weekend. Ordered two in case I **** up putting it back together (based on todays antics) £30 later, several cups of tea, swear words and a shiner on the very point of my knuckle from trying to 'persuade' too vigourously, I can now type this out and have a good old laugh at myself for being... such an idiot (x6!) 🙂

Orange F Calipers - What Colour?
hockeyedwards replied to BillNick's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
I vaguely remember asking a good family friend who is a Lexus tech and the LFA orange was 'recommended', cannot confirm if it is the OEM colour but perhaps a best match? -

On the other end of the scale, IS F's have been far and few between of late 🙂 -

Steering Advice needed
hockeyedwards replied to Papa Munchy's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Don't know of any UK owners installing them, only 50 odd of us around anyway so tricky to find another car with the bits you want to install. Likely a direct order from RR. -

Welcome fellow F-er 😉 When did you get the beast? Also, what interior colour do you have as it's both interior and exterior colours we're after? 🙂 -
ISF for £8750

That car was up for sale not so long ago, as above, it's a scam through and through! Likely a hacked account also 😞 -
RCF Discontinued ?
hockeyedwards replied to straightliner's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
I thought the dropping of CT, IS and RC only applied to Europe rather than worldwide? Wasn't a jab at the dealer itself, but more like sales people reading 'RC model discontinued' but failing to read the bit where it says excluding RC F... checked with both my local dealers and the RC F remains according to them and the configurator online allows you to go through the process. Having talked casually with some about owning a GS F and have them go 'oh the hybrid F sport?' highlights some of their lack of scope... Glad you found a solution, hope it works out 🙂 -
RCF Discontinued ?

Find a better dealer, they are just sales people after all, you don't actually expect them to know what they are actually selling? 😆 a quick google shows multiple reputable car sites stating the RC F will remain as the rest of RC lines get the chop. Yup that be correct, there is an avid Jap/ Korean youtube channel that always has the latest scoop. 'Kirk Kreifels' - I get the latest info there most of the time, great channel. -

RC model line is up for the chop alongside CT and IS, but the RC F will remain as a stand-alone I think, unless that has changed? There is a Lexus announcement on March 30th about 'the future' so maybe some update on model lines etc 🙂 -
GS F brake disc upgrade?
hockeyedwards replied to hockeyedwards's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
As mentioned above, got EBC redstuff all around on mine. Will be doing same again when required. Same braking performance, much less dust. -
GS F brake disc upgrade?

Much appreciated chaps, ordered all 4 corners 🙂 that'll give me something to do with the lighter evenings coming! -
GS F brake disc upgrade?
hockeyedwards replied to hockeyedwards's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Ta muchly, ever used them before? Some automotive websites don't look very legit sometimes so a bit cautious of blowing money on these sites unless used by others 😛 -
So just hit 45k in the F and had the 50k service, lockdown meant the usual 10k per year was down to 4! So an advisory was put on all 4 corners for the discs. I've had a mooch around online and not entirely sure where to source from, LPD have been unhelpful in other parts enquiries so I am not going that route and likely eye watering. I have the part numbers - both Lexus and Brembo, but the thought crossed my mind whether there was an upgraded disc suitable for the GS F? Not that there is anything wrong with current braking performance. Questions to the F gang are 1. Where would you recommend sourcing the discs from and 2. Do you know of/ have you upgraded/ is it worth upgrading at all? I never intend to track the car, so I realise that is in the column against upgrades, but if a better disc was similar money, why not?

My only comments would be, that i only drove the 35 miles home on the standard suspension, then the car went up on a lift to be inspected and then had essentials replaced, so I have spent more time on the coilovers and I am used to the ride of my GSF, so maybe in comparison I still feel like im floating around. Maybe to those who've spent more time on standard springs would feel a larger difference? I use HSD's purchased from Driftworks (cracking deal last black Friday) on their standard spring rate, 12kg and 8kg come to mind but I would have to look it up to be certain. The car has been lowered around 15-20mm. I don't drive the LS hard in anyway, I've got the GS for that, so I just waft around locally.

Yeah defo not actual Merc wheels, just Merc-esque! You say about the PCD, my LS came with some banged up Merc wheels that I actually sold back to the guy as it was blasphemy to have them on a Lexus 😆, so maybe there is occasionaly crossover? SC wheels do look good on the LS, see a lot on the facebook groups alongside euroline type wheels too. DHP wheels are quite sort after as well, although not my cup of tea. For once I've actually been more of a simple design wheel.
