I forgot to mention that over on the LC forum Lexus UK refunding for a tracker was mentioned. I pushed on this with Lexus, was asked to send them a copy invoice, and they have confirmed I will be refunded 50% of the cost of my 2023 tracker purchase. If I’d had it fitted via a Lexus dealer my understanding is that I would have been 100% refunded (but I chose to save money at the time and get it fitted by trackerteam). When I bought my car early 2023 I found I was unable to insure it on the Lexus scheme with or without a tracker, and couldn’t get anyone at all to touch it without a cat S5 tracker, so it was delivered and hidden and blocked in in my garage (completely uninsured!) for a couple of days until the tracker company could come to my house to install.

I have been emailing and speaking to Lexus UK - they can offer a cat S7 tracker which allows the tracker company to track the car when it’s been stolen PLUS an OBD geofence device that alerts the owner when the car is moved unexpectedly. A ‘can blocker’ is in the pipeline. I have an LC - canbus plates aren’t available for anything except the RX and even if they were I’m not convinced they’d work. I already have a better cat S5 tracker and immobiliser that actually PREVENTS theft AND allows ME to track the car (not just the tracker company as on an S7 as far as I can find out) so there is no point in me getting their S7 tracker. The geofence device sounds like belt and braces but could be worth doing for me. So… as of this week Lexus UK have emailed my dealer to ask that they fit the OBD geofence device when my car is next in with them. I’m north west England - Stockport are my local dealer. Fair play to Lexus - customer services are really trying and have been super helpful but without offering an actual immobiliser (the canbus blocker?) I’m not convinced a tracker and/or geofence is good enough. Plus as I’ve said repeatedly, there is no visible sign any of this has been fitted, so there is still the risk of thousands of pounds worth of damage being caused before thief realises canbus hacking won’t work.

I have been emailing and speaking to Lexus UK - they can offer us a cat S7 tracker which allows the tracker company to track the car when it’s been stolen PLUS an OBD geofence device that alerts the owner when the car is moved unexpectedly. A ‘can blocker’ is in the pipeline. My S5 tracker already allows me to track the car, plus it’s got an immobiliser, so the S7 and OBD device sound like they are pointless, but Lexus are going to fit the OBD device anyway and I will see what it does once it’s fitted. Note Lexus are not offering an immobiliser - I’d argue immobilisation is essential. Lexus have offered to cover half the cost of my S5 installation after seeing my invoice - it would have been the full amount if I’d had it fitted through Lexus. I’ve accepted the offer. Thanks Jim! -
PM'd! <checks very long range forecast for Wales>

If Holly off Red Dwarf keeps bleating on about the hole she was left with maybe the rest of them need to step away from the JCB and think before giving everybody 15% pay rises. Teachers, train drivers, GPs, public sector, etc etc. Killing off pensioners and taxing private school parents isn't going to cover all that. Motorists are already screwed enough.

Doubt main dealers would want their ramps getting all clarted up with gunge - I did my LC (LandCruiser) on the road outside the house and the tarmac has still not recovered. Something like a Dinitrol treatement would be the ultimate - they have a dealer network I think.

Re canbus cover it's RX only but apparently can be adapted to fit others. Offered free of charge to the hallowed RX owners but ultimately pointless as as far as I have been able to find out thiefey can just cut the wires near the protected plug and hack the canbus system that way. New key £600 - cheaper to buy a canbus hacker...but I'd definitely chase your supplying dealer. Key cover - check amazon out - they're bound to do a chineseum version.
-
That's mine for reference, '21 plate on 8,500 miles, ex-press car and used over last winter by me. I think some ACF-50 may be in order on those bolts etc - I covered my old Landcruiser in it, well worth doing.

Fair review I think. What Porsche was it? Completely agree a 911/Cayman/Boxster is probably more 'jump in and go' but in terms of occasion I reckon the LC wins. It's that engine.... LC is a hoooge car - no way I'd risk entering a eurotunnel single carriage - but only when it's in a confined space - feels smaller on the road, if that makes sense. It should really be 10% smaller, 20% lighter. Jealous of the 360 cameras - mine's a '21 and they really should have had something better than flakey parking sensors on the front. I'm the 'park at the far end of the carpark diagonally across two spaces' idiot that everyone hates 🙂 I've done 4,000 miles in 17 months, need to try harder, but it's incredibly usable compared to the Grancabrio and TVR Griffith I had before, the only negative is the bloody theft/attempted theft and resulting damage problem otherwise I'd have definitely used it more. You'll miss it when it's gone...

Forgot to update this - dealer said “Lexus have come back to us saying there will be an OBD device available for models which we can fit a tracker on but the parts are unavailable as it stands. ” I’ll update when I know more - I’ll be back at Lexus soon as mine needs a new fuel filler latch as it’s rattling. -
Only way to protect it 100% is to disable the car eg a proper immobiliser that requires a code or fob to get the car started. The steel canbus plates that protect the canbus wiring connectors means the thieves will simply cut the wires further up the loom instead - this has already happened from what I’ve read. I have a tracker and immobiliser that I paid for so I questioned my dealer about Lexuses offer of a basic tracker. From my dealers response 2nd August : “ Lexus have come back to us saying there will be an OBD device available for models which we can fit a tracker on but the parts are unavailable as it stands.” The OBD device doesn’t sound like it’s much use unless it is an actual canbus immobiliser - I’ll wait to see what they say. If you have an affected car I’d still recommend an immobiliser of some form, with stickers and/or flashing leds to advertise the fact.

Too far for me really (but I’m sold on the drive out in the other thread) - did you go - any pics? Explaining the LC to people is quite entertaining because a lot (even car enthusiasts!) seem to think it’s electric.
-
Good stuff! In the end I didn’t actually buy from them - it was a toss up between two almost identical LCs - the Hedge End sales guy called Dominic that I dealt with was super helpful. I watched the LC market for ages before (and after) buying and Hedge End do seem to get more than their fair share of used LCs. Best of luck - it’ll be worth the effort.
-
I think I'm free... but Whales is a big place... I'm Manchester-ish so no to Cardiff please.
-
It'd be worth speaking to dealers direct - mine is Stockport and I know they've had at least one LC come in and then go straight out again without ever getting advertised - they did have a waiting list a while back. Hedge End seem to get quite a few in too, relatively speaking.
-
As already said there's three settings for the actual seat position, plus the entry/exit can be set to no movement, a bit of movement, or full wheel and seat movement if that makes sense. I'd guess it's higher than a Corvette, just.

Ouch. Ash from wood plus water equals sodium hydroxide, which isn’t very kind to paint. I reckon a clay bar as above might do it, and I know exactly where I’d be shoving my litre bottle of cream cleanser if you know which neighbour caused this. Three days 😐

Completely agree. Being able to track the car minus its front bumper to whichever container port the thieves use isn’t an acceptable anti theft solution and nothing like whats been offered by JLR - they’ve spent millions and upgraded the software on their cars as far as I know. Mine has an immobiliser as part of the tracker - you’d expect at least some form of immobilisation to be part of this famous and long awaited post-Watchdog ‘solution’. I'm speaking with the dealer again next week so I’ll see what they have been told by Lexus. £600 cashback would suit me very nicely - I’d invest it in a Clifford/Viper alarm with shock sensors in the front wheel arches. -

Having now googled S5 and S7 the S5 seems superior - an S7 is less than £200 fitted. I’ll wait and see what my dealer comes up with on their ‘potential other option’ from Lexus - if I can get at least some of the £499 back that I spent on the tracker so I could get insurance and sleep at night I’d be happy with that. Thank you for posting 👍 -
McDonalds? MCDONALDS??!! This is the LC we're talking about here!
-
PPF here too - about a month ago I parked rear end next to a carpark barrier, then put the convertible roof up. The back edge of the bootlid hit the barrier as it moved back. Left a really nasty scuff a good 4" long on the bootlid. I took the car straight to the PPF installers almost in tears where they wiped it down with a solvent to leave nothing but a tiny imperfection in the film maybe 5mm long and only noticeable if you're inches from the car. This is my first PPF - Xpel film lasercut to templates, authorised dealer fitment, whole car, cost a bit over £4k which at the time felt ridiculous but after that experience I couldn't be more positive about it - it most definitely saved me a rear end respray.
-
Add me to the list if in UK - I'm between Manchester and the peak district but as above I have a GT and can travel! Seeing an LC on the road is a rare occurance, to see a few together would be mega.

I was in my dealer for my car's first MOT today and I enquired (again) about theft protection - the LC is now on the list of cars deigned worthy, together with the NX, UX and RX. The 'solution' is a Tracker. I think they said it was a Cat S5 - which I already have - althought there's talk on other forums of an S7 and eventual software changes. Either way S5/S7 are official Thatcham classifications so they should be fitted to a certain standard. Dealer has now emailed me : From here https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/147497-lexus-announcement-imminent/?&page=5#comments it looks like the other option could be an OBD geofence device. So... get onto your dealers! LC won't get the steel plates but they're useless anyway as thieves have learnt they can just cut the wires anywhere instead of trying to access the plate-shielded canbus multiplug. My dealer clearly didn't have as much info as Spock66's dealer, maybe because I did put them on the spot a bit just asking there and then, but they're confident things are happening. I'll update if/when I know more, and if anyone has any info please add it here or on the other thread.

It's a Toyota Prius gear shifter (yes really) so Manual is straight back from the shifter's resting position, then you're paddles only with no annoying switch back into Auto after a predetermined period. Pulling right will just knock it into neutral unless you go right and then down which moves it from Manual (or Park) into Auto. But you probably know all that by now! Good aren't they 😎

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202407191943377?sort=most-recent&make=Lexus&model=LC&postcode=M11ad&advertising-location=at_cars&fromsra Listed yesterday: 2017 sport plus, hud but no ML, red over tan, 27500 miles? 471 bhp car so no GPF equals better noise too.
