LC500 V8s back to mid £40k by end of year?
eightk replied to Flytvr's topic in Lexus LC500 / LC500h Club
Still nowhere close to the 40’s. Silver Wigan car with resprayed wheels has spangly new photos and has finally dropped a bit to 57k but Lexus Chester now have a red sport plus for the same money - I know which one I’d pick. White PYL convertible has sold, silver ‘vert has gone, absolute baller spec orange and tan private sale ‘vert is now at Lexus Swindon at 98k presumably with a near-10k markup, the stick in the mud yellow pair are still 50k and there’s now 12 used V8s on the market… including Brett’s Inspiration if I’m correct, at Southampton. Can’t see anything decent getting below 50 until next winter… -
This now needs to be offered free to every car affected as an official recall. That would be how to do PR correctly, rather than the Porsche/Land Rover etc method of shoulder shrugging. It’d even be seen as a plus. It’d cost Lexus a couple of hundred quid per car at the most and I think it’d do wonders for their excellent reputation for customer care which they were in danger of losing over this.

Ah. I was thinking about getting one. Oh well, as you were...

A company called road hero do one - full kit inc Jack etc for £285. I have no experience of it but they get good reviews for spare wheels for other cars. https://motornuts.co.uk/lexus-lc500-and-lc500-h-2018-onwards-roadhero-space-saver-wheel-and-tyre-kit

Fair point! My plan is to go in and speak to service I think, armed with that RX registration above that’s had it fitted. I’m hoping it’ll fit an LC as I’d guess the wiring side of things is probably very similar.

Does anyone have any info on part numbers, what the plate looks like etc? I’d be interested in seeing if Lexus can fit it to my LC?

Oh god don't start the 8 series comparison again 🤣

If you were a motoring journalist you’d pick the Porsche because it’s sportier. And because you’d want to be the same as all the other motoring journalists. For what I paid for my LC I could have had an older 911 Targa, around 2018-2020 approx. I did look. I’d have gone for a slightly earlier NA 3.8 without a turbo I think. They don’t come with any of the stuff Lexus chuck in as standard (even basic stuff like heated seats and adaptive cruise are options if I remember correctly), the warranty would have run out by now, and they sound c r a p in comparison. And everybody else has one. And nobody knows whether to be impressed because it’s a gt3 or to ignore it because it’s just a 3 litre. They all look pretty much the same bar some spoilers. Even the base car is faster than the LC but it’s not about zero to 60 or how many gees it’ll pull in a corner. Probably an amazing driving experience but not an amazing ownership experience. And a boxster isn’t in the same ballpark although it’d be great fun to drive. Not for me.

If anyone’s flouncing it’s you with your narrow roads excuse 🤣

I’m only going off what’s been discussed on the RX section. I’ve asked Autowatch - ghost suppliers - if ghost stops canbus attack and they haven’t responded. A cat 2 has two physical cuts with relays fitted in the fuel pump, starter, engine coil (remember those?!). You’d need to physically find them and rewire them to start up and drive away.

After Lexus sent the reply I posted above I emailed back with links to the stolen LC, the canbus method on that experts blog etc. They've replied - "Thank you kindly for your detailed reply, which is greatly appreciated. I have shared the information from your email with the relevant internal teams in relation to your comments and suggestions of information seen online. Whilst I do not have any other comments outside of my prior email to share on this, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your email in the meantime." Reading between the lines that sounds hopeful. I have a Stoplock Pro now too ☹️

Similarities there - cutting edge engineering, incredible design, and no roof!

Anyone with a Lexus or Toyota with this canbus attack vulnerability needs to speak to their dealer, to Lexus UK and also use Facebook etc to question Lexus on what they’re doing to sort this.

Faraday pouches - mine didn’t work. I could open the car (a Kia) with the keys in a closed pouch next to me. I now have stainless faraday tins with tight fitting lids which I’ve tested - they 100% work and won’t wear out like a pouch - bought from amazon. I’m not an expert but there is an argument a ghost wouldn’t stop a canbus attack. I have emailed autowatch but haven’t had a response yet. Ghost and trackers etc have no visible deterrent. I’m looking at a cat 2 immobiliser with flashy dashboard led as well as the invisible cat 5 tracker I had fitted that has the optional immobiliser on it. Trackers are fitted by the same installers day in day out. Thieves now know where to look and can remove them given enough time. The only way to stop theft and confuse a pro thief even if they do have a go is to fit something visible, complex and time consuming to defeat and most importantly something that’s non-standard to what’s usually fitted to stop theft. Old school steering locks, driveway posts, dashboard leds, heck even parking the left hand front corner against a wall may help. Stoplock Pro is a good one but all it may do is slow a thief down rather than put him off altogether. Lexus need to get their act together and get updated software tested and rolled out as this could be incredibly damaging for the brand. Andy - LC with the same vulnerability.

Trunk Monkey may result in the vehicle owner being liable for prosecution in the UK I suspect. Either that or a compo claim from the thief.

What we need is a steel plate like they’re supposedly thinking about making for the RX. And landmines in the wheel arches. I’m sure South Africa has something we can fit…

I’ve asked via their online form. I’ll update here when they reply.

Received the above five minutes ago. I have posted on an RX450 theft thread a few times too.. what’s being said on there is something like a Ghost won’t stop canbus theft. I’m therefore looking at Cat 2 immobilisers - visible flashy led on the dash plus a touch key to get the car started. My tracker has a relay to stop the car starting already but there’s no visible signs it’s been fitted - an extra dash led from the cat 2 should achieve that visibility. Bastards 😂

Dear Mr Eightk Thank you for your email regarding your Lexus LC CV Sport Plus Pack. I am sorry for our delay in response to your email, which expresses genuine concern for the security of your vehicle. We are sorry to hear of your concerns and appreciate your email with us. I must confirm that we do not have any internal information on any Lexus LC thefts using the CANBUS attacks you mention or any other method, to be clear. We are certainly aware of the growing trend of vehicle theft across the industry and understand your cause for concern. Lexus have been developing a prototype protective plate that can be installed into the Lexus RX to help prevent against this new type of attack on vehicles. At this moment in time, we do not have any dedicated development towards the LC directly in alignment with the protective plate you mention for the RX. We are certainly conscious of the concern around our other models, and can assure you that we are considering different options for our other models. If you have any questions at all please do feel very welcome to let me know, my team and I would be happy to discuss this further with you in any detail.

I'm not anywhere close to understanding how this works but I too suspect Ghost will not work against a canbus attack as the attack floods the system. Physical visible deterrent is the only cast-iron option in my non-expert opinion, at least until experts can catagorically prove a Ghost works. Even then, thief has no idea the Ghost is fitted until he's trashed your car. I have a cat 5 tracker which also stops the car starting via a relay but it's not visible so against damage from attempted canbus theft it's useless. I'm looking at a cat 2 immobiliser as well - flashy and obvious dash led with a touchkey to deactivate - proper old school cutting the starter and/or fuel pump and/or ecu. Makes the keyless entry concept a bit daft fishing around for the touchkey but other than a steering wheel lock and a Rottweiler I can't see any other option.

LC500 V8s back to mid £40k by end of year?
eightk replied to Flytvr's topic in Lexus LC500 / LC500h Club
Yep, just ten used V8s for sale now, either on autotrader or Lexus’s new used website. Good news for owners, not so good if you’re a buyer wanting a particular colour scheme or spec. This is the smallest used LC market I’ve seen since I’ve been looking - probably two years or so. -
Dealers said they’d not been told anything before I asked so they’ll enquire with Lexus. I asked the guy who fitted my tracker if a ghost immobiliser would stop canbus injection theft and he confirmed yes a ghost would prevent it, but by that point your bumper and headlight are in bits…

...and this is how they do it (£10 of electronics) and what could be done by manufacturers to stop it. It's not just a Toyota/Lexus problem. Link taken from the RX forum. https://kentindell.github.io/2023/04/03/can-injection/
