Looks like the new AMG GT SL-with-glued-on-hatchback vs the old GT when you compare it with the existing LC. Not impressed - no V8, much more generic looks, and someone needs to take those stick on L E X U S letters on the boot lid and throw them over the nearest hedge. Progress it isn’t. More of a Supra/GR86 design to it I think?

Theft attempts with no success

Hi, I used a company called trackerteam who fitted a Scorpion S5 with immobiliser - I think it’s technically an S5+ because of the immobiliser. Sad that I needed it but it works very well. I paid extra for a second fob just in case. Try to move it without the fob present and you’ve got no chance. Trick is to keep the fob separate from your key! There is an annual subscription needed as it must have a mobile phone chip or similar built into it for comms, or you can save a bit by going for a 2 year or 3 year sub if I remember correctly. -

On the RX I believe the steel plate covers the headlight ecu in the wheel arch. Maybe the RAV4 has it mounted closer to the front bumper. I’d guess it’s the same principle - find it, plug in your dodgy electronics, steal car. I needed a cat 5 tracker for my Lexus insurance and I upgraded for £100 to include immobilisation - no fob, no start, so the theory of stealing the car and leaving it for a while to see if the tracker is being monitored won’t work - they’d have to rip it out on-site/where the car is being stolen from. I’ve seen what’s involved in accessing the wiring that’s immobilised while it was being installed and honestly there’s no chance of taking it without a tow truck, without my fob or without stripping out a LOT of the electronics to get anywhere physically close to being able to bypass the immobiliser. I can track the car anywhere and view speeds and I think I can remotely immobilise it via the app even if they’ve taken the fob. Recommended - but a sad state of affairs really that it’s needed. Hassle your dealers!! -
I had a Model S P100D. 0-60 in 2.3 to 2.5 seconds depending on who tested it. Nippy. It literally is organ-rearranging doing a launch from standstill. I never tried Ludicrous mode where it preheats the battery for better acceleration - there was no point. Any slip road access into any traffic, any overtake, it'd do it. Stop reading here if you enjoy Lexus's Relax concept. Had it two years from two years old, covered 20,000 miles and it had (from memory) new front CV joints (grinding noises on power), new headlight (sidelight failed - £1200 part!), air con/battery cooling pump (mine was always the noisiest car at the superchargers - new one was the same), drivers door handle, another set of front CV joints plus driveshafts plus bearings (still didn't fix the noise on full power), UV treatment for yellowing screen edges (party fixed), clips for the undertrays kept breaking, and many many software updates which are very clever and done over the air... but when you jump into your car and find they've moved the heating controls overnight it can be a little disconcerting. Every time it was in at Tesla I asked how much it'd be if it was out of warranty for the work they did - it was north of £11,000-worth of repairs when I sold it a few months before the 4 year warranty ran out. I like my Lexus. And my Kia.

The Greeks invented parliament. The idea (I think!) was a broad selection of various people from all walks of life selected to do some law making and governing for a while, before going back into their original jobs. Now look what we've got. Career idiots purely in it for power, publicity or some misguided notion their idealogy is better than the other lot. *****, this is the first time I've been on this thread and I'm already grumpy just reading this last page. Meh.

Eurotunnel site : That makes sense as the last thing they'd want is a car getting wedged in a narrow deck or stuck on a ramp. Link here https://help.eurotunnel.com/hc/en-gb/articles/208532489-Vehicle-types-and-sizes Can't wait to cruise through Spain and Portugal in mine 😀

There’s definitely some softening on soft top prices the past few weeks - could be an interesting sideways move away from a coupe. The red convertible at Hatfield at 76k still looks cheap, even if they did add six grand after it was initially advertised. No roof makes a difference with exhaust noise too 😎

Only had mine a few months and don’t know what could come next. I suspect the next car would be a downgrade, something I wouldn’t worry so much about where I park it. Or maybe an AMG GT - the original wide body C - new one is just an SL with a hatchback and nowhere near the same sense of occasion. 911 doesn’t interest me - wrong noise, wrong engines, daft options list meaning used cars are a minefield for spec, and silly prices. New Granturismo looks good but I never gelled with my old Grancabrio and it terrified me every time it rattled. Same goes for Ferrari - I’m not sure I’m confident enough owning stuff like that - my TVRs needed regular fiddling with but parts were dirt cheap. Great dealers, bank vault build and a ten year warranty would be hard to give up. Maybe Convertible R8 or the new Aston with the decent dashboard, err, yep, I’m struggling… what’s V8 or bigger, rare, well built, GT-capable, looks amazing and sounds fantastic? It’s not a long list!

Meh. Lost the 3D glass passenger side bit that looks really cool, plus no clock. It’s just leather now - looks crap! And the controls by the round idrivey wheel look a bit sparse but I suppose that’s what the tea tray, sorry, touch screen is for. It’ll be far better as a user experience and probably safer but the bongs in the video are a bit too BONG! for me. On the plus side you can’t even see the brackets - must be one of those clever TV mounts they sell in Argos.

Thanks Marcus, that's the same answer I got. It'll be interesting to see how the LC lights work on the wrong side of the road - my Kia has been through Europe three times no problem as it's got a 'lhd' light option, whereas my previous Tesla needed (crap!) stick on beam deflectors which just made the headlights useless and still got me flashed by oncoming french trucks. Agree 110% on parking!!!

As NX owners you *really* need to hassle Lexus Customer Services, your local dealer and Lexus via any social media means possible - you need a metal plate solution just as much as me (LC) and the remaining RX owners. I have a Tracker, Immobiliser, Smart water and other entertaining things on my car but the problem is the bumper would be ripped off before the thieves realised. Annoying!! -

No they're using the canbus ecu so I'd imagine it's not something you can immobilise without a Ghost or similar. Re the complete electrical cut out option - there used to be a similar big cut out relay that kept a low current fused feed to the car across the opened relay to keep teh clock, alarm etc running. As soon as the car starts the fuse pops and it's game over. -
Chances of changing any LC bulbs at the road side = zero I'd guess. https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/travel/advice/checklist/ Looks like no bulb kit is needed any more - good - with LC soft top boot space you need all the space you can get! Do report back on headlights and wrong side driving.

Worth getting a sticker just in case. Marcus won’t have any problems with emissions - his low emissions Euro 6 compliant 5 litre V8 is just what Saddick wants us to drive. Right? Right?? I have a 5 litre V8 and a 3.3 litre V6, both Euro 6. I’m doing it for Greta.

French don’t allow speed camera databases - you’d get fined or have the device confiscated if Le Plod found it but for some odd reason the French Waze users all seem to think there’s ‘police spotted’ at every single fixed camera location. I do like their way of thinking. Waze hugely recommended for Europe! Wherever I am I always run Waze plus usually also have a dashcam with database (which doesn’t ping dans le france because of the lew)

Definitely go for the single deck carriages - they're much wider - some cars eg Tesla default to single deck - the LC maybe isn't common enough for the system to work out the width could be a problem. You're usually following caravans, vans etc onto the single decks so make sure you're in the right lane early on. UK stickers to numberplates rather than risking the paintwork with magnetic ovals with dirt underneath. Critair - as long as you get the pdf confirmation of your sticker order that'll satisfy them even if the sticker isn't on the car/arrived yet. If you're using the toll roads look at Emovis Toll transponders - much easier going through the Via Verde or green lane or whatever the french equivalent is without stopping, especially when you're RHD and trying to get your passenger wheels nice and close to the toll booth kerbs so your passenger can pay the toll - crunch!! Headlights - I queried this with Lexus and they said as above - no need for beam deflectors or adjustments - I'm not 100% convinced on that one to be honest. You need your V5 (not a copy) plus insurance cert. Amazon, Halfords etc sell an EU kit with the triangle and other legal tat including a bulb kit (err led bulbs??!!) - note the triangle and high vis for all passengers need to be within reach inside the car, not in the boot. I'm hopefully taking mine on the ferry through Spain to the Algarve next spring. Can't wait! Oh, and note they all drive on the wrong side of the road...

I just emailed them too - a solution is also needed for the LC and every other affected model.

This is a huge image problem. Lexus need to retrofit every single RX with the protection solution. And the same for every single UX, NX, LC, LS and any other model with the same design flaw. The best way to do this is by issuing a recall. Fitting a ghost II or similar to every car as well as the protection covers would be a couple of hundred quid each if they were prepared to buy in bulk or do a deal with a large installer. That would be the ‘Lexus way’ of handling what’s approaching a PR disaster. The media haven’t got a proper hold on this yet, like has happened with Land Rover, but when they do…

LC500 V8s back to mid £40k by end of year?

There. See. You were right - they were overpriced 😂 Still nothing else new on the market, not under 100k anyway. -

Sidelights it is. But then it'll bong when I open the door because I'll have forgotten to turn them off. Although to be fair it bongs anyway because the doors open. Or the windows down. Or something. Too clever.

I took my LC in for a ceramic coat

Oh. So my kitchen scourer and Fairy Liquid isn't good enough? I always rinse it out well before using it on the car. It's very effective on bird poo and it leaves that lovely matt paint finish that's so popular these days.- 9 replies

Actually, it's quite funny having come from TVR and Maserati forums, heck, even Tesla, Merc & BMW areas - my lights being (in my humble opinion, not the Takumi craftsmen!) slightly temperamental is a conversation piece. I'm used to exploding flywheels, seized engines, Titanic-like corrosion, unfathomable electrical faults, piles of trim falling off... I LIKE my Lexus 😂

Definite flash of the lights and a hand over the eyes - standard Police transit type van. Or more likely it could have been a 'wow I love your Lexus' flash and a brief salute to my tastefulness.
