  1. The reason for 2015+ is diesels have to be euro6 for the ULEZ which is likely going to spread to my area at some point.
  2. If an RX had a manual diesel option I wouldn't hesitate, but the price of fuel these days is a killer. Still not worth selling mine, the cost of changing car would far outweigh any fuel savings, but my next car is going to feature efficiency!
  3. I love the space in my RX but it's underpowered and thirsty. Was musing over what I'll get when it eventually gives up, I think a Euro6 diesel estate car, so anything after about 2015, and probably one of: - Mondeo Estate - Toyota Avensis - Volvo V60 All in the ballpark of £10k or so. Anyone have any thoughts on which of these would be better? (or something else?)
  4. https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/13520145 This can't be right surely?
  5. Hello Can anyone recommend an FM transmitter that receives bluetooth and transmits to FM? Needed for my wife's car as there's no line input and I want to be able to play from my iphone. Amazon has loads of them in every shape and size you can imagine, and Halfords have a few too, but I cannot find a single one that says it supports AAC. I bought one of the cheap amazon ones and it's ok for spoken word but terrible quality for music, likely due to being a cheap FM transmitter plus SBC/AD2P codecs only. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for something higher quality but so far haven't found anything. Cheers, Mark
  6. Couldn't hurt to clean the gutters where the seals are on the boot lid, mine were clogged up with gunk a while back and it caused rain water to leak into the car. Keeping them clean should pretend that.
  7. I'm able to drive again, the car was mostly left sitting for about a month and nothing bad happened.
  8. Thanks guys, I've moved it around on the driveway a little and held the revs at 2000 until it came up to temperature. Maybe that'll be sufficient, I have a jumpstarter I keep in the car in case the battery goes flat. Wife's insurance is up for renewal soon so hopefully I'll be able to get her insured to drive other cars 3rd party.
  9. Hello friends On Monday 4th I fell off my bike on the way to work and fractured and dislocated my shoulder. Last Monday I had surgery to fix it with some metal plates which went well however I can't drive for at least another 3 weeks and potentially longer (basically until I'm no longer wearing a sling and can execute an emergency evasive turn properly with the affected arm). The car was driven last weekend as my dad helped me go and collect my bike however my wife isn't insured to drive it and is somewhat put off by how big it is compared to her car. Wondering what I can do to keep it alive while I'm recovering. Would simply starting the engine and letting it warm up to temperature every couple of weeks be sufficient or do I need to find someone to drive it around? Any advice on this much appreciated Thanks, Mark
  10. Late to this thread but I would definitely not put anything in a transmission other than the manufacturer-recommended lubricant under any circumstances. See here for wise old mechanic's thoughts on transmission flushes: https://www.agcoauto.com/content/news/p2_articleid/29 Drop the pan, change the filter assembly and replace the fluid - that's a proper service. Flushing may do more harm than good and even if the garage has some kind of warranty on the flushing process, if the unit fails 3k miles later there's no way you'll be able to prove the cause.
  11. It's also Prins and the way those kits are installed isn't great (calibration all done remotely etc) so really could be down to botched installations. This article is what put me off when I was researching this a couple of years ago: http://www.amrautos.co.uk/index.php/lpg-systems/26-valve-seat-recession-explained but yeah as you say without knowing the incidence rate it's impossible to quantify.
  12. 1MZ is on the list: http://amrautos.co.uk/database_problem_cars.pdf not sure which year range that is though it just says 2001+
  13. Isn't VSR a concern on these engines? Or is that just my 4-cylinder and not the V6s?
  14. Never trust anyone trying to sell you a car (or anything else really). Try these guys: https://www.car-keys-online.com don't know if that procedure works on 2009s, if not there's likely a new procedure.
  15. My RX300 returns about 30 but it's special 😄 (2.4L)
  16. Hi @GCP the viability of a direct swap will depend on whether you have children and how much maintenance you're willing to pay. I would suggest that when using these "scrapyards" to shop for a new wife you might wish to avoid mentioning a colour preference as that might not elicit positive results 😉 Jokes aside, I don't think they'll be coded, what do you have in the doors other than the window controls? Those are just switches I think.
  17. I wouldn't bother unless there are obvious signs of a problem.
  18. Yeah I think if they tried to argue their database was wrong but hadn't ever told you or made the information available on any documentation your case against them would be a slam dunk at the small claims court.
  19. Surely that would only be if the details on the policy are correct? On mine it just says the engine size, doesn't say anything about power.
  20. Things wear out over time and gradually become loose, rubber parts deteriorate
  21. You may have a parasitic draw issue, look on youtube for how to check for this.
  22. Whatever you do don't put any "stop leak" products in it, you'll do no end of damage.
  23. Makes sense. I wouldn't buy a 3yo car anyway though so probably not going to make any difference to me. Will be interesting to see what they actually do in their refurbishment process and what the value of these cars ends up being after they've been recycled a few times.
