    What (if anything) would get black silicone off this piece of trim? Its quite a small piece, easily comes off and is just plastic on the back so easy to clean away from the car, I just don’t know what to use. I was putting silicone around a corner of the boot seal to stop water ingress and didn’t notice this had got silicone on it until it was partially dried Cheers, Mark

    Are there confirmed reports of 2022 cars being stolen without the keys? I'm curious as to why manufacturers aren't using better immobilisers from the factory.

    ehh spoke too soon. Turns out the issue isn't a hole in the metal, it's the water going under the boot seal itself and then leaking into the boot. It just took slightly longer to happen than I thought it would when testing. Applied some silicone but it was raining (Scotland) so not sure how effective that will be applied to a wet surface, it looks like the rain's going to stop tomorrow so I guess I'll pull it off and re-apply in the morning.

    This reoccurred again today. This time I used this metal epoxy stuff from halfords - https://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-and-body-repair/adhesives/evo-stik-hard-and-fast-metal-epoxy-putty-526616.html which might as well be magic (apparently it sets even underwater!). I could see where it was leaking through into the cabin underneath the door seal so i put some of this over the rusted bit of metal, left it for an hour to cure, then went back and poured a glass of water over where it previously leaked and all dry inside.

    Yeah I don't think the car would run at all if the ECU was dead. How do the battery terminals look? Could be as simple as needing to clean them.

    Is it that easy to beat a modern immobiliser? I'd have thought that 2022 tech would be reasonably secure

    Give Russell a call and see what he says, he’s a brilliant tech and honest. Pretty sure he’ll need to see the car before it can be diagnosed though.

    I've seen Esso consistently lower than the supermarkets. Not seen any fuel that cheap though.

    Managed to get this on during a break in the snow, not sure how waterproof the tape is but it just needs to hold the gasket in place so hopefully will be ok until i get home

    While cleaning ice off my windscreen in scotland this morning I noticed this gasket has separated from the bottom. I think it's unlikely I'll be able to source a replacement and get it fitted before driving back to london, wondering if there's some kind of temporary adhesive I could use to avoid water ingress in the meantime?

    Underneath I agree is fine, it's when you hit it hard enough to cause it to shoot up over the bonnet that's concerning

    A competent mechanic would never say "dunno" and replace parts on a guess without diagnosing the problem. If you carry on with that approach you'll likely run out of money before running out of guesses. You may well have wasted money on both plugs and a sensor without fixing the original problem. Take it to a competent technician for diagnosis and go from there. I always recommend Toyotec in Redhill but probably a bit far for you, I believe @royoftherovers maintains a list of known good Lexus technicians

    Fair, I went with the goodyears anyway. The advantage of the Michelins in snow is something that would be very rarely used in the uk but any improvement at all in wet grip seems far more useful, plus the 20% extra lifespan

    Shot through it, it was enough to spray out sideways from the car and a little bit came up but didn't swamp the windscreen. I should have braked but it was dark and I just didn't react quickly enough.

    Eagle F1s are awesome rubber, I had those on a BMW years ago. They grip like crazy. Don't think they're all-seasons though and I seem to remember them wearing quite quickly.

    Driving tired in a place I'm not usually at to walk the dogs and accidentally hit standing water at about 35mph. No immediate problems but there's always the worry about the transmission, hopefully the RX is resilient to such things

    Indeed, tyres can also be internally damaged from hitting kerbs or potholes
